    Why not just retain the original Word doc? Then, when you need to edit... just open the original Word doc.

    Word has the ability to create multiple chapters within the same document. It can (almost automatically) create a Table of Contents from the chapter headings. It can automatically number pages. It's capable of some pretty sophisticated formatting of your document, and...

    It can create a separate PDF ebook with a simple click of a button.

    In short, Word IS an ebook creator. Maybe you just need to spend some time learning to use the existing features to your best advantage.

      Thanks for your post. Yes, Word makes a great table of contents, I'm really happy with that. The problem is, I create a template, which is meant to retain my preferences, etc., then when I pull that template in, it keeps losing all my formatting preferences. I'm sure it's my ignorance. That's why I was looking for an ebook creator, that would perhaps make it easier for me. I'm sure however, that Word will do it, but no matter how many YouTube vids I watch I can't seem to make it work.

  • Have a look at Scrivener: https://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener/overview - it allows you to do exactly that. And I think it's about $45.

    I have the program and use it from time to time, but I have to admit that my default software is still Word. Once you get to grips with it, it's hard to beat.

    Recommendations for ebook creator please!

    I'm writing ebooks in Word at the moment, and I need an ebook creator program that will convert my finished product back to a Word doc with all header 1's and 2's etc., intact. In the future, I may need it to convert for Kindle, Amazon etc., but it's not a proriety at the moment, but I would like to be able to consider anything that would do that too.
