Free resource for consumer market stats

Hi,

Is there a free resource/tool from where I can get the consumer market statistics of past year(s)?

Objective?: NICHE (selecting a niche is undoubtedly a hard task)

    In the USA, you can try some of the federal/state commerce departments. The US Census will also offer some data.

    Additionally, most niches (or the businesses that serve them) will have professional or trade associations. These associations can be a goldmine.

    Another option is to scan the data cards for magazines in the prospective niche, as well as TV shows, etc. Ask for their media kit.

    The trick with using free information is that you often have to compile and organize it yourself. I'm not aware of a tool or resource you can type a niche ["fly fishing"] into and get any kind of comprehensive report.
