Sold a couple of websites for $850

Hi guys, I sold 2 websites to a private buyer:
for $850. Neither of these websites make any money and get like 5-10 visits/day.
Is selling for this price normal? Or did the buyer make a mistake? I did spend upwards of $500 on these sites. Just getting close to 100 articles cost me that amount.

And both the sites are close to 2 years old, so it's not like I made a huge profit.

But if sites like this can sell for this price, well then I have new business model on my hands?

  • Whoever paid it either really wanted the domain or is going to be really upset when they see a nothing website that generates nothing that they paid so much for.
  • If the websites look good, and the content is great - it was def a great deal for them. All they have to do is optimize and drive traffic.

Good for you to - you got all your money back on the builds too!

$350 profit isnt exactly a LOT tho - would not necessarily call that a good business model, as MOST people want to buy sites or businesses that are already profitable
  • I agree with @zxcvbnm. The buyer does not care about whatever is in it, he/she might just need that domain.

    • Well, IMO the domains are worthless. Hardly any backlinks or traffic, low TF/CF etc. The content though is of a very high quality. The buyer said he wants to use the content on his own websites and 301 redirect the domains.

Idk if the buyer is really smart or a noob at all this.

  • Craig,

IMO, you should never assume you have a marketplace based on the action of one single buyer. Do your market research and base your business future on the norm (averages) not the exception.

    The best to you,

    Steve

  • I bought a couple of sites for around $100 on Flippa a few years ago. One was about plastic bags, the other bounce houses.

The first site was a flop but the second one was actually quite a nice niche. I made a bit of AdSense money from it but in the end I let the domain expire when I decided to refocus on my core niche.
  • Maybe the name of the domain fit his/her business who wanna start thats why needed that much
