Does Commenting on other blogs still help to generate traffic?

Hi,
I have a photography and travel blog 10 months old and I am unable to generate much traffic. I get around 250 visitors a month which includes referral traffic from social media. Much of it comes from Pinterest. Organic- none at all.
Also, I earned just 10 dollars in the last 10 months by Adsense.
I have tried many things like submitting to directories etc. but traffic is so low.

Will commenting on other blogs in similar niche help?

  • Hi,
Yes, blog commenting is still effective for traffic generation, if it has done in a proper way. wait to adding link before that include yourself in a conversion to build trust.

Yes, it will still generate traffic, but make sure your blog comments are not spammy and high quality.
I also suggest you to create Instagram profile, start youtube channel.

Are you writing your blog posts yourself or outsourcing?

Yes, I am writing posts myself.
And I have an Instagram profile but followers are around 400 so hardly get any traffic from there.
I am working on creating a Youtube Channel as well.

I am not a social media expert, but maybe you would need to use some Instagram growing strategy? To follow-unfollow, write quality content on photos too.

And also, maybe you should improve your blog posts or hire a professional writer.
I don't know your content quality, but maybe it's not completely seo optimized.

For now I am using Yoast for on page seo but maybe i should think of getting it checked by an seo expert. However, I would appreciate if you could have a look at the link mentioned above. If its possible.

If you look at comment sections as communities, you'll do better.

Use commenting as a way to get on the blogs radar and network with the authors, in preparation of pitching a guest post.

So drop insightful comments that add value to the community, not one-liners.

The traffic you get from people clicking on your name will be small compared to what you get from guest blogging.

The idea of looking at the blog commenting as "communities" is a great idea. I used to do this all the time on the EzineArticles blog and learned alot. Not only did i learn how to use the information to contribute to my business, but i created a new identity of myself - sort of like a self transformation of the type of marketer that i wanted to be - and it felt good. It really felt like a community. And still does.

I would be more aggressive around Insta posting multiple times each day, doing Insta stories, commenting on other people's related Insta's (not as a tactic but as a REAL person) which your audience will see and then come back to your Insta feed where you can have your blog in your profile as well as include the URL in posts and stories. Go to where your audience hangs out - Insta is a big place for both suppliers and consumers of photography, images, etc...

Yes it works, but my experience it's generally a low return unless you are really doing it in volume. And when you do it in volume, it's hard to maintain a personal touch.

Yes, done properly it can be helpful to you. It's not as popular as it once was because many webmasters now have sites that contain the 'nofollow' code. This reduces SEO linking potential and it's really a way of cutting down on spam.

As suggested above, the quality of your input will be the determining factor in generating visitors to your site. You might want to consider answering questions on Quora. It receives a lot of traffic and you know that at least one visitor (the questioner) is likely to be interested in your contribution.

Yes, but only from a User Interaction position and very little at that and certainly not from an SEO position.

The best way is to be a Guest Poster on someone else's blog "page" in the same niche with a backlink to a similar or good match keyword on your website's "page" and when both sites use the same keyword meta title tag the chances of decent placement in the SERP are high.

I wouldn't look at commenting strictly as a traffic method, but rather as a networking method.

Befriend the author and fellow commenters on that same blog. Provide useful advice, ask curious questions, and be genuinely interested.

This may naturally lead to your blog being referenced more often, and/or you may get an opportunity to submit a guest post.

All in all, treat blog commenting as a genuine way to connect long-term and truly befriend others and network. Think what would happen if a well-known blogger really gets to like you and your blog....

It does not work that way, my dear. $10/10 days is not a bad start considering that the blog is only 10 months old. But I am happy you chose to share the problem with the rest of the members here. What are you doing to build a list? The easiest way to do this is by purchasing travel solo ads from a reputable source. As the list grows, you can email them weekly about any specials, discounts, or travel tips to keep them engaged as your subscriber and encourage them to buy from you.

You could do a paid ad, google or bing ads etc.

Free traffic, join lots of fb groups related to photography and share content posted on your blog in the groups every few days. Don't do it too much as you don't want to come across spammy.

Add people from the fb groups and build a fb profile of 5000 people interested in photography and post links on that profile too.

That should be enough to get you going!

Also you could run automation on instragram and dm people the link to your blog.

Build your social media presence in Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and promote travel, car rental type offers as they supply regularly promo codes or coupons that help close the sale. For holidays u get between 2%-4% but the basket value is high and car rentals 7% upwards.

I'm not sure if doing it for marketing is a worth while strategy. You're better off joining social media site and joining in relevant conversations to your niche. That way your comments will get noticed by the people in the main thread, but it also has the capability of reaching other avenues in the social media site and beyond.

Yes, blog commenting can work well, if done exactly right.

Another idea . . . create a FaceBook Group for your target audience, make a Page which promotes the Group, and find other ways of promoting the Group, such as Messaging people who interact on similar groups. When you've made a start building the Group, if you keep engagement high (delete any members who have not engaged in the last month), FaceBook will send you more and more members for free.

Then tell them about your website. Ask them what they most want, what's their biggest problem they need to solve, and give them a great solution!

Also, find better offers than AdSense . . . there are a lot of offers on affiliate networks for travel and photography, and those might convert better than AdSense. Also test Amazon products there . . . the commission is small but the conversions can be really high for Amazon (some of their pages convert at 70%).

You need to focus on the basics. Find out the trends related to your niche. Find the relevant keywords. Develop interesting content around those keywords. Keep the content fresh and relevant and sort of a eye-candy. Find the USP of your content and use it from time-to-time to entrance your visitors.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[11562723].message }}
  • You should diversify your traffic sources and add Twitter and writting original and unique content, for example, articles.

For a travel blog or webiste adding a section for Travel Coupons works really well. Many travel merchants offer Coupons for users to get discounts and a great way to attract users.

Focusing only in 1 or 2 traffic sources is not a good idea.

    Good luck!
