Discussion: Subliminal messaging when Marketing ideas, do these work, and are they allowed?

Discussion:

I am sure that many of you have heard of subliminal messaging in songs, music and even movies. There may be "inaudible" words or phrases said in the background as the music plays, and many have used this as a means to try and train their subconscious mind to help the concentrate better, feel better, make more money etc...

But is this allowed, say for internet marketing? I mean, in the sense that if someone came onto a website, could there be an "inaudible" audio playing in the background? Also, we have subliminal messages which are visible, so couldn't the "inaudible" message be used now for images, where they are just barely visible (or are hidden), so that people would be more persuaded?

I am sure that many people would say to draw the line here, as this may be unethical to some. But keep in mind the actual power of our brain...

We hear noises all the time, which we drown out. Such as in the noise on the street from passing by cars, or the noise in a restaurant from others talking as we eat our food. Our brains can selectively drown out and listen to virtually anything it wants to, and this also means, that our brains can "drown out" subliminal messages if they want to as well.

However, there are other "sounds", which are are apt to hearing and understanding. Such as in the sound of change falling, most of us would immediately look around on the ground to see where it went.

Or the sound of a baby crying, especially if it is our own. But what about other sounds? There most certainly are good sounds which we hear, and psychologically link to happy memories and positive things.

That could be laughing, or perhaps the sound of a water fall etc.... Things that we link to certain feelings, and actions. Of course this can vary for people, but sometimes there are COMMON sounds and sights which almost everyone can identify to a feeling or a certain common understanding.

Such as the sound of a train crossing bell, almost everyone would understand this as the noise made to make people aware that a train is coming and they need to stop. Thus, people may associate the sound with "stopping", or "crossing".

Could these sounds then be used to subliminally give the visitors to our site a great feeling, so that way they FEEL like reading more, and feel like learning more, and even feel like coming back? Or maybe there are sounds which similarly draw out a feeling for people and can be incorporated into videos and audio on the website, as well as the visual.

Likewise with words. There are some words (call to action words, action words, etc...)which can immediately grab our attention, or make us feel like taking action. This most certainly affects our psychology, and I would consider this a form of subliminal messaging then, because it is your subconscious which actually makes you take action in the first place (or, your UN-conscious mind).

In fact, it affects all of your emotions, beliefs, habits, and many other things!

So, here is the discussion:

1. How many of you have used subliminal messaging in your marketing methods, AND what kinds of methods work best for you?

2. If you disagree with the use of certain or all kinds of subliminal messaging in marketing, why so?

3. Are there any other methods which were not touched here as well (in relation to our senses and psychology)?
