Brand Name Is Different From URL name

I have a question about having a brand name that is different from the URL. For example, the brand name on the site is Alpha Newspaper, but the URL is realinvestigativenews.com. So when the viewers look at the website, they will notice that the URL is not the same as the brand name. Is this going to be a problem with SEO, PPC, and website/landing page approval by traffic networks?

Brand name must be the same. or included in the URL.

Or else it wouldn't be a brand name or a brand at all.

Yours is drastically different. I doubt it's going to work well. What may work for you though is this: if your domain name is realinvestigativenews your branding can be "Real News" or "RI News" or even "RIN".

You're definitely giving yourself a lot of extra work by not including the brand at all in the URL. Branded keywords are usually the easiest "win" for SEO, but that URL will make it exponentially harder, if not impossible, to rank for "alpha newspaper."

The brand name should be included in the domain name somehow, because people are going to search your website by the brand name.

For SEO, yes. Different names will affect the ranking. Better to have a brand name and URL similar.

Brand name should be the same as the URL but that's not always the case specially when your brand's keywords are not very unique. You'll find yourself struggling to get a domain that carries even at least one of your keywords. Just try to make the URL as very near as possible to your brand.

If the URL was alphanewspaper.com and the title of the website Real Investigative News, you could have worked with branding Alpha Newspaper into the website title, but Real Investigative News is hard to be branded.

It might be a problem with networks approval but perhaps more importantly it's a branding nightmare. Why would you have them different? Try anything you can to make them the same.

I used this domain for a different project before but I still want to use it. In that case, I may just it for lead-gen purpose.

You could work with a subdomain.

    Example:

    alpha-newspaper.realinvestigativenews.com

    alpha-newspaper (subdomain)

Your brand name should be the same as the URL name. It'll be difficult for someone to remember your brand name and your URL name.

There is no problem, keep up your work. There are many websites with the different name.

My advice would be to not do that.

Your domain name and your business name should be the same. It'll be difficult for someone to remember your domain name and your business name.

Choosing a domain name that's different than your business name would be a huge branding mistake and almost all branding experts advise strongly against it.

NO, the main purpose of the website is to get users to come and have them to whatever it is that you want them to do. If it is a good experience for them and they get something out of it, they will remember the site. The brand or name or url is no longer all that important so long as visitors know how to get back there.

There are countless corporations that use different brand names and then they get a holdings company. If you need more users to remember the brand than the actual url, you might consider using Remarketing Advertising to get them to remember or just scoop up those specific related domain names/brand names/etc

  • Try to keep the brand name and domain name same because it directly benefits in promotional campaigns. It has much much better results in comparison to different names for brand and domain.
