What would you do if the Internet shuts down?

I was thinking it'd be a global shutdown.

I'm sure satellite phones would still work.

Would make a great viral Tik Tok....if only the internet was up.

and the same generation that, if you took all their phones away, they would be like helpless, lost zombie sheep, with no clue how to hold a conversation with people around them in the same room, office, shop, park, etc.

Radio ads still thrive, no?

It would effect the United States far more than the rest of the world as we are so dependent on the complexity the internet allows. But the smartest people those able to turn thing back on would be the most vulnerable. Unless they are grabbed by the military.

And even after thing turn on the cascade of deaths will grow . The majority of the world where the electricity goes out periodically during the day and the technology dependence is not fully trusted. Will fair better. But there will most likely be a slippage into a pre industrial state and rapid decline in population after.

We are seeing the effects of a breakdown of globalization. Shutting down the internet to highly technology dependent populations is basically killing a majority of the population.

Although I get the question was lighthearted, a shut down being an annoyance for a few days, I think savidge4 is closer to a reality.

Day one I would send alerts (via sat phones, hoping they still work along with cb/ham radio) or cell if it is working...the family alert, something like the rooster crows at midnight lets them know the bunker is being prepared.

By day 3 I would expect my peeps to be on their way, probably via car or horse...

By day 7 we'd be hunkered down and tuned in, popping heads out like a whack a mole game to get a feel for the situation...

But then, I am a doom and gloomer, albeit an optimistic half full YEA kind of guy...or in other words, I'd be OK, but the rest of you playing games..they could quickly become the hunger games.

Or, just binge eat cheetos and chips.

While I have to agree with many here - especially GordonJ and savidge4's responses... I find it a bit humoring that I took 7 years - went off-grid and commercial fished (*old school - cheap Jon boat, swamp lands, and 12' -16' cast nets. We were 'living off the land' - nothing illegal (*although today - so many rules, makes it barely legal or profitable) - and catching and selling 300 -500lbs of fish on good days!

However, we still had a base of operations - a place to store our goods, shower, cook, etc - and, we had a power inverter, gas, freezers, and full comfort suite - including coolers full of food and the means to grill, griddle, or cook on stick over open campfire!

So, even then, we had phones and a connection on the inside - while we were living outside the considered norms... I loved it. It was archaic and there were disciplines to be learned -even in those humble environments.

I agree, first we get loved ones hunkered down, prepare for the chaos of all-in-whom couldn't live a day without spoils or what most people take for granted - like a Golden McDicinal arches drive-thru as their primary hunting skills...

The idea is not easily dismissed - but I would be fine in a remote forest as would 2 of my 3 children and maybe my wife - she's gotten older, weaker, and I am not sure how well she'd sustain - in say; we are going to the forest or the mountain (*to higher ground) as a means to diminish the threat such an event would create - out of desperation.

I certainly do not welcome such and idea - I tought my 2 daughters how to survive, light fires, catch fish, cook, and sustain in an environment close to what I would envision as being "THE PLAN" - I have for such frightening reality check!

I mean c'mon - Edison "lit up" JP Morgan's home with incandescent lights on June 8th, 1882 - while Edison didn't display the technologies(?) to the public until Sept. 4th, 1882 - we (as a whole) didn't even have light bulbs or electricity as a norm until only 140 yers ago, and look at the DEPENDENCIES created and the costs associated since that innovation became available!

It's brilliant - and equally damaging!!!

Power grids would still be up, unless your appliances are IoT-reliant.

And for entertainment you would get together with your friends and family every night drink beer and sing karaoke with the machines volume turned up every night.have the rich friends take turns buying the pig to get roasted to make lechon
