Tools to research competitors domain metrics

What tool(s) do you use, prefer or recommend that show information about a competitor's domain authority, number of backlinks, domain age (maybe even traffic estimates), etc. for a given domain or page? Thanks!

    I have never seen a better tool for domain research than Ahrefs, you can see everything: history, links, top page anchors, and a lot more, BUT there is a big BUT - $99!! this makes it a tool and not cheap, unfortunately

    Im going to slide out of the box here... and ask WHY? Why exactly do you want to do this?

    I have been doing online stuff - Building sites, SEO and CRO and a host of other services for clients for years - like way to many years... and at the end of the day doing THIS ( tracking "Competitors" ) is in the end a complete waste of time.

    At the point that you get to wanting to know this type of thing... you already know what has to be done... and seeing someone elses matrix doesnt make what you have to do any easier. If anything it sets a bar as a minimum ( If I do this I will rank better ) I can tell you first hand that is not the case.

    In my experience, each and every Domain is different. Your DA as an example is a running score from the day you register the name. You put together a bunch of crap at the get go, and it is an uphill battle from there.

    The part that gets me here is that it is clearly important with say WordPress what Theme you use and how "SEO Friendly" it is. And this alone is a variable that is not considered. Then you get into age of the Domain and a host of other Domain specific variables, that you simply can not compare one site to another.

    I guess its human nature to want to compare someone elses "success" to what and how you are doing things... BUT, I will bet - and its not even a fair bet, you can look high ranking Competitors that may have less than what you have, and you can find competitors on page 8 that have far better matrix than those on the top of the list.

    I cant stress this enough... SEO as it is related to say DA is so ladened with site specific variables it is just impossible to compare one site to another... the same applies to PA as well you simply can not gain much insight from these reports in terms of how you can get results like some page on another site... It is a Apples to Oranges comparison, and it is suggested its more Apples to apples, and it simply is not.

    Do yourself a favor and start with a solid core of content... and from there goto Google Analytics and look to see what terms are being used to get to your site ( landing pages ) and develop content based on YOUR sites DATA and you will be way ahead of the game vs trying to copy what someels has done.

    SEO is like a journey... your path and someones elses path will never be the same Each site has its own unique path, and the Data is there to understand and follow that path.

    Start with Ubersuggest for affordable keyword research and Moz for learning about domain authority and link analysis. Both are user-friendly and perfect for beginners.
    And after that, go to Ahrefs or Semrush for in-depth backlink analysis, site audit and competitive analysis. Majestic is also great for more in-depth backlink analysis.
