Quick question on how to use google alerts !

Hi guys,
Just a quick question on how to use google alerts, I want to know when my backlinks have been indexed so,

I use Angela`s backlink packages and lets say on one of the site in her package i leave a anchor backlink in the about me section the backlink is a anchor text `red widget` i then make the profile URL into a RSS feed and submit it to a few social bookmarking sites to help google find it.

Do i then go to google alerts and enter `red widgets` as my alert and then when google finds my anchor text `red widgets` in the profile i created google will then send me a alert ???

Is this how it works ???

    Why not just try it and see if that works?

    I use it to keep up on topics and people I am
    interested in.

    yep that how I use them.. also add in your main url ie.. yousite.com as an alert as well..

    If you set your alert to an rss feed and add it to twitter feed you can also auto post to twitter at the same time
