It is great once you get your head around the way hooks work. It is also very handy for implementing Adsense as you have full control over the width and placement of the columns.

I think Thesis is one of the best most robust themes around. I have it and love it.

It makes modifying your theme and look dead simple. I admit I don't have a lot of experience with other themes but the flexibility of it is is fantastic.

What are you looking to do with your site? That may determine if there are better themes out there? Thesis is not just built for adsense. It is an overall framework to help you control, manage and edit your blog.

Thesis is the best Wordpress Theme available.
    That's because it's not a theme; it's a whole theme system.

The creator, Chris Pearson is a tier 1 designer,
who tolerates no bad or useless code.

We discuss it on Twitter a lot, and he shows off examples,
and answers questions not covered inside the community.

Very little, and when you do, it's spelled out (thank goodness, because I'm no coder).

Although real WP geeks can customize it a lot.

He literally types out exactly what you should enter and explains it simply.

I was most convinced by those examples of who uses it.

I heard a LOT about thesis, even watched the videos, just too lazy to "play" around with it on one of my blogs yet.

What's most interesting is that the makers seem to know a lot about SEO, because i have a big problem with MANY other themes where the makers made BIG mistakes in terms of SEO.

Example: Blog Name in H1 header tags, throughout the whole site...nonsense like that.

The Thesis makers seem to know about all this, so i think its very interesting.

Looks great, so cut me some slack cos im no techy (i only just started to learn the goo goo gaa stages of html)

I thought themes where something created using wordpress, basically like a custom designed wordpress blog. Does that mean that thesis is a theme which can be completely altered by the user?

Does it also mean that i can get a designer to design a theme for me with thesis and then hand it over to me so that i can blod and then update and or edit the theme as i like?

          Cheers

The way I understand it, Yes, and better than headway too. I dont have headway (new competitor) but heard it basically copied Thesis WP-admin "tools". I dont know but I get the impression Headway copied Thesis A lot. But they are also at the same time ground breaking in some ways.

When it comes to Thesis or Headway I must say Headway "looks" much better when it comes to editing and moving things around and adding a Header to the blog.

Think the new Thesis 2.0 is going to be about easier Design editing and add the option to upload a header. Closer to Headway, but what I believe is that Thesis is built on a more stable ground and has better typographics which Headway dont. Believe Thesis is the original.

Still find Thesis quite difficult. To do a simple thing like setting up a header (learned it now) can be a bit difficult, but they have a GREAT forum with real fast quality response/support. Basically, I cant do much modification because I know next to no HTML or CSS.

I have to agree with Fraggler here. If you are new to WP then it may well baffle you because of the customization optiosn available. That being said, once you get into using Thesis, it is fantastic!!

Also a great comment, Jobe. Chris is a Legend, and this 'theme' is nothing short of first class. I would not want to get into the debate as to which is the 'best' wp theme out there, as there are many which I like to use. It really depends on what you want to! That being said, diythemes and woothemes pretty much cover all of my needs!

Thesis is more a platform than a theme. It is kinda hard to explain.

To answer your question Andrei - You can get a designer to edit Thesis to look like anything you want and then you can edit it fairly easily. I won't say anyone can do it but it takes very little technical knowledge.

You will have to find someone who is familiar with Thesis.

It makes a ton of things very easy. View the demos, do a Google search of Thesis and you can see some really cool videos showing how it works. I posted a list of resources for Thesis in another thread that include video tutorials on how to change things.

You can also do a twitter search for @pearsonified or #thesiswp. He posts links to some cool sights that are rocking Thesis.

I've been looking into the Thesis theme lately and have a question for you guys who own it. Would Thesis allow me to create pages that don't have a sidebar without altering code? - thanks

Yes, there's actually a template included just for this purpose.
I haven't used it yet, but will be.
It looks like it's 2 or 3 clicks and done.

it does. no code needed to remove the sidebar in a page you create. in the attribute section of page/s, you simply click on "no sidebar".

i am new to wp, and took the plunge with thesis right off the bat. the learning curve is /was steep for me. very steep. and i am no coder. i am getting better at customizing my blog... er.. getting better in fielding questions in the thesis forum.

I'm going nuts. Just started trying to put a site on Thesis.

I've spent hours to get a header graphic centered.

That's all I want to do and I can't figure it out.

        Can anyone help?

I bought Thesis and after putting some solid time into it I still couldn't figure it out well enough for it to be easy. It made my brain twist in weird ways . My big problem was that it was marketed as being easy to use. Is it easier than starting from a blank textpad and typing in code? Yes. But it is the most difficult WP experience I've ever had and apparently I'm not the only one because in their forum there were quite a lot of people with similar complaints to mine (you shouldn't have to dig through a tutorial for something as simple as adding a header).

After Thesis I found Headway and have never looked back. It really is easy to use, my first site I did with it was done within 30 minutes of installing it. I never did get a site done with Thesis. It's also pretty easy to spot a site that was done with Thesis, it is very customizable but if you don't have a lot of experience or a lot of time to devote to the learning curve, you're not going to touch a lot of the customization options and the result is a lot of cookie cutter looking websites IMHO.

I think a lot of it depends on your individual needs and what you're expecting/needing from a theme.

I have developer licences from StudioPress, Woothemes and DIY Themes, and to me, Thesis seems like the most solid one of all these themes. Quality through and through. Couldn't not recommend it - unless you want an ugly (and effective) AdSense theme for yer little niche sites (the typography on the Thesis theme is TOO GOOD for that kinda thing in my opinion. Heh). Thesis does work fine for AdSense, though, even though it perhaps lends itself better to the pretty personal blogs.

Thesis is a great theme if you want to really stand out from the crowd as you can totally customise its look and feel. However some of the design side would be difficult for a newbie.

You could use thesis and outsource the initial design and set up if your worried about it.

    Sorry,
I have thesis and decided to just go with the text headers
My understanding is Headway is a bit more code friendly in the custom header department.
    (PM Avenue Girl)
I haven't gotten Headway yet but is a definite possibility for sites that scream for header graphics
OR, ask at the DIY forum, ask what the hook is for a centered header and where it goes
they are very helpful and respond quick
(it is also My understanding that Chris will be making that easier in future releases)

I also use Thesis on my personal blog. I'm quite happy with it.
Let me say this, though: If you can't write some basic html/css then your theme will look like lots of other Thesis blogs. Not necessarily a bad thing (it's a clean look), but if you really want a totally customized look, you'll need to write some code and do some fiddling.

So, for non-coders, Headway might be the better option (haven't tried that, however).
