Web 2.0 Sites - Branding Yourself/Your Site vs Posting As An Average Joe

Apologies for that ridiculous title, hopefully I can explain what I mean better in this post :p

OK, so for one of my niches(my main one actually), I am going to create some web 2.0 properties(Squidoo, Hubpages, Wetpaint) and as I usually use a separate pen name for each, I'm just wondering what my username should be across them. My purpose for doing this isn't necessarily just backlinks, I would like feedback, traffic and to give my site a wider presence.

Perhaps I'm overthinking this, but what is your usual approach? I don't know whether it's better to just use my name, the company/site name or a combination of both. I've just been browsing similar lenses in this niche at Squidoo, and it seems to be half and half in terms of a regular username vs the site/company name.

I probably am overthinking it, but I just want some thoughts and feedback

It is a good idea to make your username the keyword you are shotting for in SEO. The reason for this is many of the urls end up including your username. By picking up a username that is your keyword it will give you a higher chance to be ranked for it.

The most important question to ask yourself is... "Is brand recognition important in my niche?"

The answer should be obvious if it is "Yes" or "No", but if you answer "Maybe", then IMO you should work to build your presence.

Your business name and brand recognition are vital for trust, and as long as the pages are "business as usual" then there would be no ill effect from using the name.

In some cases, such as cross niche networking, it is better to be somewhat anonymous from your business name, but when your efforts and business are meant to be focused in a particular niche, then you should work to dominate that niche as best as possible.

Very good point, I hadn't even thought of it like that

Yes, I believe brand recognition is extremely important in this niche I was also kind of wondering if people are more inclined to visit the properties if they see they have been created by someone with an actual name rather than a brand/company.

Well, although using your brand in usernames would prove useful in optimizing, it might raise some suspicion that you are trying to spam. Given a choice, I would post as an average joe.. If your product is great, great things will follow up.

Hmmm, see this is part of what I'm worrying about. I'm not trying to spam at all, but a company name isn't as personable as my own name or a username.
