Need Opinion Re: Text Broadcasting Business

Hi all,

I am considering buying a private label text broadcast business. Customers like business, auto repair shops, realtors, restaurants, hair salons, etc. would be able to send unlimited text broadcasts like coupons, reminders, menus, and product announcements to their subscribed member's cell phones. In addition, the subscribed members could also get messages on demand. Start up price and monthly subscription includes online website and promotional materials.

What do you all think of this? Is mobile marketing the next big thing, or is it not viable?

If its the next big thing, so be it but I'd say its still years away. I do not do business with anyone who uses my cell phone for advertising. I get texts from my friends or associates not from businesses. I do not want telemarketing via text to be the next thing, big or not. I can check email on my own schedule, when I want.Not so with texts. Since I cannot control when I get texts, I do not want to be advertised via them. For this reason I give my email address to some businesses about which I'd like more info but if they require my cell number then I decline to sign up. Several of my friends feel the same so its not only me who does not look forward to this intrusion into my personal space. Again, I want to pull notifications, not have them pushed onto me. Big difference. Perhaps you can make it work for you but its not for me.

Hi,

Text advertising is already taking off in some places and it's definitely a good mechanism if you target your market well.

I was speaking to a fellow warrior about this recently as he mentioned another IMer who is releasing a system soon which does just that.

After a fair discussion on it, we were able to see quite a lot of opportunties for how it could be used, so it's just down to how you pick your business model and what type of customers you target -there are definitely uses for it right now that people will pay for.

It's quite easy to start a business like this without having
to invest large sums of money. I have software that will
send blasts of 500 at a time, and best of all... completely
free. This is something I'll be testing in the next few weeks
for my offline clients. I'll report back with the results if
there's any interest.
