Paypal has screwed me

I bought an item on Ebay and it didn't do what it was meant to. Lodge a dispute with Paypal and contacted the seller. Seller was happy for me to return the item and to give me a refund.

I returned the item over three weeks ago. Still paypal is stuffing everyone around.

Then paypal emails seller stating that they are waiting on a tracking number from me to show that it has been sent back. Seller tells paypal that they have received the goods and they would like to refund me the money, "what is th delay" they ask them. (this has been going on for 6 weeks now).

I call Paypal yesterday(aussie number but not aussie people answer, if you know what I mean) to see if there is anything that I can do. Long story short they tell me that they never got the email from the seller that states he is happy to refund the money back to me. I had a copy of it as the seller had cc it into me. I forwarded this onto paypal.

Got an email (survey) from paypal today asking how the service was on yesterdays call etc. I told them how bad it was.

Then I got a email 10mins later stating that my claim was declined. No reason why, all case details deleted from my account.

This is my first refund request with paypal, the process is new to me. What can I do? I just emailed them asking what was going on.

Would really love some help on this matter...

They are notorious for this kind of stuff. Unfortunately, all that you can really do is open a new request (or just have the seller refund you directly from their account).

I am totally confused. I have refunded money when someone double payed. I have refunded money when someone returned an item to me. And never once was PayPal an issue.

I just went into my account, and clicked the nice little button to refund the money. The seller should have the capability to do a transfer of the money to you.

The only thing I may be overlooking is if you purchased using a credit card, with PayPal as the payment processor. Then the refund would most likely need to be refunded onto your credit card, which would require PayPal.

Why is the seller not doing the refund?

    Hi guys

another day another screw up - ive lost count the amount of times that i have been done. I remember buying friends series 1-10 from an aussie seller when i lived in the UK and they were copies. I complained and was expected to send them back with tracking.

I got my refund back and everything but sending them via tracking cost me more than what i paid for the actual item.

These days though a lot of buyers are wise to paypal and screw the system themselves so they will just claim they havent received the item instead so that they dont have to pay excess postage costs. Under paypal rules sellers must give tracking details otherwise they will refund the buyer.

If you ask me paypal need to sort out their system so that honest people like us dont get screwed.

If you paid by direct debit/credit card (not your paypal balance) your bank will refund you.

    Kind regards

    sam

If you paid via paypal, the seller should just refund you himself instead of going through the whole paypal refund system.

I recently sold an item on ebay but it got damaged in the post and the customer asked for a refund so I logged into paypal where the transaction was stored and just pressed issue refund and it was done in seconds.

I would contact the seller and ask him/her to refund you directly.

    Best of luck mate!

Thanks guys for the advie. I felt so alone didn't know where to go so that I could be heard.

I have emailed the seller tonite asking them if there was anything they could do, just waiting to hear back.

Just tried to reopen the case in Paypal and Ebay but it won't let me. It says that only one case can be opened and that the case that was opened is now closed.

As everyone has pointed out there is no reason for Paypal to even be involved. He just needs to click the refund link on the transaction. Done!

This is ridiculous. They are LYING, etc... A tracking number from YOU is only PARTIAL proof that you MAYBE sent it! If the seller says it is OK, it is OK! PERIOD! That trumps EVERYTHING! After all, the question is NOT supposed to be whether or not YOU should get the money, but whether or not they should DENY the seller the money. The seller said it is OK, so it is OK! Paypal should ask YOU for proof ONLY if the seller doesn't say it is OK and you want the money! If they don't pay the seller, and don't refund you, that is THEFT!

BTW if the seller says to refund you, or clicks the button, that is ONE thing. They CAN'T simply repay you, because THEN what happens if you decline the charge or something? We aren't talking about money here, it is a CHARGE! If he refunds $6, when you charged $6,he ends up with nothing. If he PAYS you $6, to refund $6, he could end up with a $6 LOSS, AND possible chargeback charges!

To me it doesn't sound like PayPal has screwed you, the seller has.

I don't understand a situation where someone can not simply refund a paypal payment. It seems like there are people who are psychologically not capable of pointing any money out of their account.

If the seller isn't willing to refund then the pp system can be difficult to deal with. I had a slightly nasty incident where a slightly big name around here admitted he should have given me a refund right in his wso thread, and that he would get on it 'asap.' A month later still no refund. Fortunately I had used a Mastercard through pp instead of just using pp. I put in a dispute with MC and just got a letter that they had agreed with me and that the credit would be on my next statement.

It is pretty unpleasant and it does cross my mind once in awhile 'time to buy a gun.' That's just a joke. It sounds funny to people here in Canada but not sure how it goes down in the states where everyone already has a few. (do they?)

Anyway, my experience with money is 'hard to dome by, easy go.' It's a good idea at least for me to keep that in mind when I buy something.

    good luck with that.

That's a MYTH! I HAD a rifle given to me when I was about 7 or so, but my mother moved when our friend died, and she let his real sons clean out even THOSE things. I never even got to keep my fishing poles. 8-( Anyway, I only used that rifle for target practice.

I even went to a MILITARY school(when I was about 16), Accredited by the US ARMY and had some instructors from the Army! The guns they have people march with, etc... were PLUGGED, so they couldn't shoot. The only time we could shoot was on the shooting range. The guns were essentially the same type we marched with, but could certainly shoot. They were issued at, and returned to, the range.

I never got another weapon until I was about 30 or so and the US government decided that any weapon I might want was some nasty weapon used only for war(They even renamed them "assualt weapons", and advertised SEMI automatic like they were MACHINE GUNS). I bought mine MONTHS before they made it illegal to make or sell it. BTW it is a 16+1 9MM semi automatic ruger. It can kill, but is not made to really do a lot of damage. It can fire fast, but is certainly NOT automatic. AND, BEST CASE, it can only shoot 17 bullets, ONE at a time, before you have to replace the magazine. Last I heard, 9 bullets was the limit, and they want to TOTALLY outlaw them. BTW it has been illegal for a LONG time for a felon to own a gun.

If you want a place where at least almost all MEN own guns, look to Switzerland or Israel where all male citizens, of enlistment age or older, are REQUIRED to do so.

BTW such a joke probably wouldn't go well here. If you were in Washington DC, near a gun store, and said that about obama, you COULD conceivably be arrested. It depends on what the court considers a "clear and present danger". If you said it at an airport, you might be arrested. (bomb, gun, explosion, highjack, etc... are words that they NEVER want to even HEAR! LITERALLY!) Ever watch the movie "meet the parents"? There is a scene where the main protagonist gets arrested, at the airport, for SAYING bomb! YEP, that happens!

I'm curious as to why you logged in a dispute first? Didn't you try and take this up with the seller first? Onced you logged in a dispute, Paypal and their layers of bureaucracy got involved.

Yep, If Paypal have not suspended the cash as disputed then it's in the sellers account. The fact that the case is not over, means it is in the sellers account. (I know I had numerous idiots try to dispute charges when I was an Ebay Powerseller, and if I won it was released back to my account)

If the seller is honest, then he should refund you the cash directly, that is if the seller feels like being honest...

It should be simple for the seller to refund you the purchase amount... as several have already noted. If you disputed a transaction you may have caused PayPal to freeze those the funds in question & possibly leave the seller in a situation where if a direct refund was made, then there is the possibility they could lose the amount of the disputed transaction as well. If that is the case, I would advise you to sit back & patiently wait as you would not be blameless in creation of that situation. Good luck with a fair resolution for all.

I think try to contact them again until they finally solve the situation because if you just wait maybe they would also ignore it. The seller maybe the one at fault here. The seller makes your life harder by going through this kind of stuff.

If you simply request a refund and the seller agrees, it is simple. The seller clicks the refund button and all is good.

The problem is when you click the "dispute" button. That is kind of like doing a "chargeback" on your credit card instead of taking something back for a return.

When you 'dispute' all funds are locked up and frozen which prevents a seller from refunding until things are reviewed and settled. And Paypal's review process is not the brightest thing in the world.

So unless you are 'screwed' by a seller, next time avoid crying wolf and hitting that dispute button and see if it works out better.
