WANTED: Information About Buying Websites From Flippa?

I just watched a video from Travis Sago with someone named Ryan about buying websites. It ends with an offer to join a $1000.00 class on buying websites put on by virtualequityclass.com. I know there are lots of ebooks on flipping sites, but I'm interested in buying websites that consistently make money each month. I was wondering if anyone knows of good information on buying websites that cost less than the $1000.00 these guys are charging?

Thanks
Steve

I've done a lot of buying and selling on Flippa, so I can offer some advice (although I don't know of any other tutorials for sale in this niche right now).

    1) Look for sites with a proven income history - I'm always wary of sites that are launched in the last month or so (or even the last few days or weeks as I've been seeing lately). Ideally, I like to see 4-5 months of traffic/income before I make a move.

    2) Understand what you're buying - There are sites on Flippa for every kind of monetization model, whether you want to buy something that's earning from Adsense, e-commerce, affiliate marketing, etc. If you're just starting out, stick with what you know - ie, don't buy a membership site with 1,000 active members that requires constant communication and content generation if you've never done something on that scale before.

Another caveat to this point - know the value of what you're buying. Anyone can throw a PLR website together and list it for sale, but there's no reason to pay hundreds of dollars for something that can be purchased for a few dollars. Custom content and custom site designs are worth much more - they'll ultimately perform better in the long run than most of the "Clickbank-Ready" 2-day old sites with no income history that you'll find on Flippa.

    3) Be wary of scammers - The exist on Flippa like they do in any place on the web. It's easy to pad income or traffic stats (or just Photoshop your screenshots...), so be sure you understand the value of the underlying business model (ie - do you think it's a site that'll convert independently of what the seller is saying). Look for sellers with high trust ratings, look for Flippa-verified stats and remember that if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Of course, these are just my experiences - yours may be totally different. Feel free to contact me if you have other questions

I have done a lot of buying more than selling recently ( cos I like reinvesting what I make from selling ) but I don't have a guide on it for now.

However, since you a customer of mine, I will guide you on that as well. I have sent you a pm, we can talk more about this via PM.

If I may be so bold, I highly recommend our own course on the topic which you can read about at How To Buy & Sell Websites.

I actually know Ryan (the guy behind eTycoon) and he's a good guy. Our course was completely overhauled as of January 2010, and you can always feel free to get in touch with me directly through the contact form on the site for any questions you may have.

I have purchased a few sites on Flippa. Be careful, there is a lot of scams claiming the world out there. Stay completely away from buying on eBay. One thing Flippa requires is they have sellers place a tractable file on the site to prove the seller owns the site. Also be careful with the amount of money made monthly. Most sellers sale WSO's and they are good with a great product release programs. Your best bet until you totally understand the process is to buy $49.00 websites on flippa and warrior and learn to market and promote your own sites. Most sites on Flippa are month average stats, with a large focus on paid for traffic and sales on warrior. Until you have some creditability on WF don't expect the same return. Good luck

I constantly purchase sites on Flippa that are already generating cash. Best piece of advice: If it sounds too good to be true, it is. Also, I would recommend consistently browsing Flippa (I check twice daily) for good deals and learn whats selling and what isn't.

Do you research and be careful of newly established sites claiming revenue. I pay very close attention and you won't find a site that is legitimately earning claimed revenue unless the advertised price is AT LEAST 6 months collective revenue. (No one is going to sell a site making $500 a month for $1500)

Just browse all the time and get your feet wet, I don't think you need to subscribe to a program that cost that much money, unless you have cashola to just blow! I'd save the $1000 and put it into a site!

Great points - I guess this is all advice you will ever need!
I never bought any website with revenue but I know some people who did and they were scammed!
Why the hell would somebody sell a website making 5k a month for 7k?????
Points to consider: What is the PR of the website - do the website have any backlinks etc
I would stay away from websites which generate their revenue from organic seo

Hmmm, I didn't notice this when I commented before but if the site has age, and shows consistent non-spikee income, and is consistently getting decent organic traffic (which is THE best traffic), then why wouldn't you be interested in a site like that?

Actually Blue Sky I am always looking for sites that generate their traffic from SEO, Revenue implementation is up to you. SEO traffic is my favorite, but I try and find sites with lon lasting SEO standings. Ex: A site that hasn't had any off page SEO work done in months or any new posts in months, yet still has great SERP standings. This is how I evaluate the longevity of a website. You don't want to end up with the tail end of someone elses paid traffic!

Just constantly monitor what is selling and what isn't, you'll get a good idea of value and pricing after a few days! You can always PM if you have specific questions, as I've been buying and selling sites for a few years, before Flippa was even around.

Yes, you can "be so bold" and recommend your site. So what is the big difference between your site and the one that costs $1000.00 to join?

I was thinking that it would be a good idea to have the seller of the site put up a page for me that says something like "Hi Steve" just so I will know they own the site. However, you're saying that Flippa requires sellers to do that before they list their sites? And if Flippa does, is there any reason for me to request that they put up a "Hi Steve" page for me?

I can and already do crank out good sites in a few hours and I know how to promote them to so I have no need to buy new sites that aren't making money unless I'm buying a lot of excellent unique content that I can monetize.

If you do your due diligence, then what is so bad about buying sites on eBay if the seller has tons of positive feedback and no negative feedback?

Funny, but the video that promotes that thousand buck course shows some amazing deals like sites making $500 per month that sell for only $1500...and that is what got me interested in investing in sites.

I agree. If I already know how to do my due diligence, and I know how to buy low and sell high (been doing it all my life), and I know the ins-and-outs of websites; like how to find profitable niches, build sites quickly, and promote them, then I can't imagine what a $1000.00 course on buying sites can teach me over a $30.00 ebook? I guess if I didn't know any of what I just mentioned and I took the attitude that one good idea could make me thousands, then the thousand dollar course might be more interesting to me.

You said: "Why the hell would somebody sell a website making 5k a month for 7k?????" Because the seller has just found himself in a desperate situation and needs to unload some assets FAST. They are what you call DON'T WANTERS and I have made a good living in my life from being on the buying end of DON'T WANTERS. Do I know this happens with websites yet? No I don't, but only because I'm just starting to look at this now. However, people sell houses, cars, boats and anything else you can imagine for CHEAP because for some reason they find themselves in a desperate DON'T WANTER situation.

That is some very good sound information for buying sites. Thank you. What is the best deal you found for a site that was already generating monthly income? No need to mention the specific site. Also, with this interest in buying sites, have you found the good deals harder to find on Flippa lately?
