Page rank and Domain Age?

How important is Page rank and domain age to google. Im using Market samurai and most of the niches I research are a good portion in the green for external directories like yahoo and etc, but the page rank is average 3 and domain age average 7 but theres also a good score of new domains or no domain age found for these niches too. Should I take this with a grain of salt? What sites should I avoid like the plague and which sites give me a good chance. I know seeing articles is a very good sign.

You are probably going to get some dogmatic answers from people that really know what they are talking about. Some swear that it has nothing to do with ranking in the SERPS and that it is ALL about backlinks. Personally, I have noticed that PR and age have a part to play in the equation albeit only a part.

What it boils down to is quality backlinks. Spammy linking and link exchange programs may boost your site's rank up at the beginning but in the long run it'll have a degrading effect. So when writing articles with links in them make sure you have genuine content and use quality sites. Once you have your links in place the PG will come too.
