Legal Question Regarding WP Themes

INTERNET MARKETING

There was an offer in the War Room that gave away free customizations of a theme that has been in circulation for quite some time. As the theme was made by someone else to begin with I'm wondering is this an OK thing to do. To customize other free themes to give away?

While on this topic I'm wondering how to add the theme previews to my blog.

To be absolutely safe I think you should contact the original author and ask permission. You probably only have the rights to use the free theme not tweak and distribute as your own.

To add previews I would take a screen shot (alt + print screen) and paste it in your post and have that as a link to a sample blog using it.

Not legal advice: Many themes are released under GPL license which means that you can do this without worry. The GPL is Legal Castration | WPblogger

If the theme is free then you should not need to worry about. If it's licensed then you don't want to lose everything so don't do it..

  It depends on the theme I guess... Like Daniel said, many themes are released under the GLP license, which allows you to do whatever you want with them.
