This is a question I see a lot lately. Can you make money without a list?
Or do you need a list. Which camp are you in and why?

Totally depends on your business model. You can definitely make money without a list if you rely on things like Adsense and affiliate marketing, for example. Lists are great for many other models, though, and I know I waited far too long to start building them.

So put me down in the "maybe" camp. LOL

I agree. It depends on the site, the layout and the offer.

Ideally, I'd like to have a list if it's not a landing page that I'm pushing. Collecting e-mails is an "offer" in of itself. If believe you have something to offer or to stage a sale after collecting the e-mail address, start collecting!

The nice thing about a list is that (if you treat them well) you can just market to them and still make a living. I know people that with the click of a mouse will make $5k like that. Now keep in mind that some of these people have a massive list and that can take some time. But in my opinion it is worth it. Put it this way, I have never seen any say don't waste your time with a list.

I have found that some niches seem to respond better to affiliate links and URL redirects. While others seem to be better with an autoresponder sequence. Thats why I was wondering what others' experiences have been.

Depends on the niche. Some niches I collect emails for a list. Other niches I don't because the niche deals with something sensitive where people would rather remain anonymous.

That is the sort of niche that I was referring to that does better without a list.

Having a list is far better then having no list. When l first started out l found getting a list was one of the hardest things to do. If you what to do internet marketing for a long time you will need to build a list. Overtime the people on your list will start to trust you as long as you are giving them great information, which means they are more likely to buy your other products you create in the future.

P.S. - A list is a marketing method you can rely upon
to work over and over again!

You don't need a list to make money. It depends WHAT you are doing.

However, remember it takes 10x more resources to acquire a customer than squeeze money out of an exisitng customer? IMO, once you have a customer and not putting him in a list would be a pretty silly move.

Every business should at some stage create a list of exisiting customers and maybe potential customers. How else can it survive?
