Ugly YouTube Video Description Box Links

Hi,

I'm planning on submitting some YouTube videos and placing my ClickBank
hoplinks in the description box. I will also be adding a tracking ID so I know
which videos produce the most click throughs and hopefully sales.

The question I have is how can I cloak those CB hoplinks so they look
less intimidating to click on? I will be linking directly to the CB offer and
not to a site, so I'm curious what my options are for cloaking this affiliate
link in YouTube? I really didn't want to have to resort to using tinyurl
which isn't that much more attractive of a link either.

Thanks

George

    You could just cloak it with tinyurl or buy a cheap .info domain and set up some simple domain redirects.

    If you have a domain of your own, set up a simple PHP redirect. Here's the code:

    HTML Code:
    <?php
    header( 'location: http://affiliate_link' ) ;
    ?>
    Just replace affiliate_link with your CB hoplink URL. Then put that code (and nothing else) as the code in a page on your site. Save it and name the page something.php - make sure it ends in .php (not .html). Now you can put that URL in the YouTube description and it'll auto-redirect to your CB page.

      Hi,

      Thanks for the tip John. Now, I have a stupid question. I'm familiar with Wordpress and how to add a new page and place that suggested html code as the only contents in there.

      However, I'm not sure on how to specify that that new WP site page gets the name xxx.php. I tried that and WP won't allow me to do it. So, specifically, how is that done?

      Are you sure that the tracking id and affiliate info won't get lost in the translation with all this redirection?

      Thanks Again

    Go get a cheap .info domain with your keywords.

    Forward with masking to your affiliate link.

    If you need more links, then do sub domains.

    George,

    I don't know WP well enough to give you a solid answer on that. Sorry! I would do it just on a plain HTML site if you have one, or as others have said, register a cheap .info domain and redirect through it.

    Try checking for a WP plugin that can help, here's one I found that shortens your URLs through your WP site, from your post, I'm not sure this is exactly what you want but try checking around, there some alternatives.

    Here's the link to the one plugin: WordPress › Short URL Plugin WordPress Plugins

    If it is not your own domain and just a regular blog on wordpress.com you won't be able to do any redirect with it.

    If it is your own domain you can use the plugin "pretty link" which can make the redirect for you, either with a couple letters/numbers or with a name you specify.
