Name Cheap Vs GoDaddy

So with all the warriors here singing the praises of name cheap for domain registration, I decided to switch over a few domains from godaddy that were up for renewal. Well once I got through most of the process I needed to call Goddady regarding a tech issue and they said I needed to contact my new registrar as well. This is at around 1 am, so I go to namecheap website and click on contact us and all get is a support page with "open a help desk ticket".
Now godaddy may not have the best reputation in the business but I got to say that being able to talk to a live person in tech support, at anytime of day or night, will win my business, over saving a few dollars on renewal.
Maybe I mised a ph. support link on namecheap somewhere, if so can someone point out where it is please.

      Thanks Dave and Drew but I still don't see a ph. number anywhere. I guess the closest thing they have is the live chat support system where you still have to type out your questions and explain the issue in writing.
  • Simply the fact that namecheap offers free whoisguard with domain registrations wins my business. This is not something that I should be surcharged for.

  • I am still a big supporter of Namecheap and have never had a problem. You can always get a discount with Namecheap if you use your search engine and put in namescheap coupon.Then you just type it in Namecheap where it asks for coupon code.
  • NameCheap is cheaper than GoDaddy and also if you look around the net you can find the discount coupons. One thing about GoDaddy though is if you are from the Great White North (Canada) you can get some extra special endings. If you want to expand your market to Canada - GoDaddy is better.
  • I, for one, have had ZERO issues with Godaddy. I've been with them for a LONG time in one capacity or another and, as of this writing, I have no plan to leave them. Since I'm not a techie at all, I like to talk with live people who can talk non-tech speak and help me understand.

    I've never used NameCheap so I have no experience with them. A lot of warriors like them, and that's a big plus for them. But, if I can't talk with someone live, then that's a deal breaker for me. Just my two cents worth.

    The problem with GoDaddy is that they want to be a partner in your business, always selling you this or selling you that. When I had over 500 domains there they would call me about stupid crap all the time. I migrated to NameCheap and haven't looked back.

    • I get calls from GoDaddy all the time.

      I still have a large portion of my domains with them. I just ignore their calls.

      NameCheap is pretty good. I love the interface. I can register domains in second and not have to wade through javascript and pointless options overload (like paying for someone to submit my site to search engines).

      Picked up another 8 domains today and they all went to NameCheap. I like the free protection.

      Not in the mood to move a ton of domains, but it might happen sooner rather than later.

    Namecheap is definitely cheaper, but I found that GoDaddy had a better support system.

    Don't forget to renew on time at Godaddy. I just paid a $90 Godaddy redemption fee for a late renewal there. At Namecheap this would have been free.

  • Namecheap. Better quicker support, they don't try and nail you with a bunch of upsells either.

  • wait.. namecheap is cheaper - $8.89? does anyone manage to get any cheaper than this with coupon codes?

    Was paying $7.67 for most of my domains with godaddy.

    Anyway, I would suggest that to diversify between godaddy and namecheap just in case something happened.

    • I like the free privacy with Namecheap and I use another registrar 1&1.
  • Same here. I have two account for both name cheap as well go daddy, just in case if something goes wrong. But personally I prefer name cheap.

  • I despise Godaddy as far as hosting goes, and wouldn't use them again, but I use them for most of my domains. While I've gotten them cheaper elsewhere, I get them for around $7 now (just sign up for the $4.99 online storage folder - which I don't bother actually using) to get the $1.99 domain - works out cheaper than registration alone, then use the 10% code or whatever at the end. It's easy enough to manage them, they process registrations very quickly unlike some others I've used, and it's easy enough to skip the add-on ads during checkout... just click the little check box or radio button or whatever it is saying to go right to checkout. Plus having the paypal account set up there just makes my life easier.

      People never get the message.

      Godaddy will do things you wouldn't do to your worst enemy.

      Like, wait for ONE false spam complaint. And then threaten to take your domain from you within hours unless you pay them a fee to "clean up the mess".

      Namecheap are the BEST by far. Don't touch Godaddy if you value your business.

    I always search on net and found one then its not available...
    So I am paying for 9.95 for each domain...

    Domain registration is superfast. I hate having to wade through a ridiculous amount of upsells with GD. I simply dont have the time of for it I want to buy my domain and get a blog up and running asap.

    Recently when I sold a bunch of sites some of the domains were with namecheap and some of them with GD. At namecheap I had the domain transferred within a few clicks. At GD it tooks days and a call to customer support to figure out what was going on.

    Free whois protection with Namecheap an optional extra with GD. I dont like having my personal info all over the web nd I dont want to pay to protect it. The whois protection with Namecheap is very easy to switch between different domains. At GD the whois is complicated.

    The Namecheap interface is quicker and more user friendly. I dont like the way GD has menus popping up all over the place with some of them taking an age to load.

    So yeh I prefer namecheap.
