Greetings Warriors!

I am looking for some input and experience from those that have been around the block a bit.

I have seen a number of members promote the wonders of Wordpress as a way of setting up a quick website - be it an affiliate related site, or whatnot. I know there are some great advantages to Wordpress, but does it limit the ability to develop a full-featured website?

I have worked with Joomla quite a bit over the last year and love it. I have worked with wordpress, but that was mostly a year ago and honestly, it just seems so much less friendly for more advanced websites.

Agree? Disagree? I am not talking about a quick affiliate product review site - but a community, resources, content, forums, etc.

If you can do Joomla you can do wordpress

Its not that hard, it really depend on what you want to do.
I prefer wordpress over every other web platform.

I am transferring all of my Joomla sites to wordpress
    much easier to manage.

CrystalQ - You said it was easier to manage...do you mind sharing a site or two (private is fine). I am just thinking of how easily I can put together a joomla site with a full set of features.

I have done wordpress, but I found it more frustrating than anything else. Not that it was hard - just that I wanted it to do more without me having to custom write all my plug-ins. *shrug* could just be me

Joomla is much more secure, admin friendly, and flexible than wordpress. With wordpress, you limit yourself to creating solely blogs/review sites/similar..
With Joomla, you can create full fledged community of people with forums, blogs, articles, everything.

Talking mathematiclly, Wordpress's features are a SUBSET of Joomla's.

Im not disregarding wordpress. Yes, its a great platform with some of the best admin usability features Ive seen. But, still, Joomla has all those .. and more.

Ive been with Joomla for over 3 years now. And, IM LOVING IT.

I guess wordpress is more acceptable with Internet/Affiliate marketers because they need a no-frills quick website. Joomla can be a tiny bit complicated for beginners. But, after you get the basics of Joomla, you'll be creating websites in no time

We run a lot of Joomla AND WordPress sites. For your purposes it seems Joomla would be the clear winner. Another alternative would be ModX which was recommended to us by someone who we trust.

From my experience in buiding mini sites with both I would go Wordpress hands down. For a more complex or involved site I would go with joomla.

I have found using like sites I can get better placement or ranking in the serps with wordpress.

The key here is "from my experience". I am confident others have gotten different results.

I'm an avid Joomla user, but just now got back into WP as well. It's changed quite a bit in the last year or so. Matter of fact, there are some themes out now that are full blown CMS like Joomla.

Actually, I was pleasantly surprised when I ran across the WP Remix 2.0 theme. It's a heck of a package that gives you the best of both worlds.

Now I'm experimenting with both CMS systems.

It use to be that I would agree with you stating that Joomla was the best CMS. It still might be, but it is getting some stiff competition from WP theme creators and users.

    Hope this helps ...

I use WP, because it seems easier to maintain and more popular than joomla. It has great plugins, themes and good cp.

I like both systems- each has its strengths. It just depends on what you want to do.
If you are looking at building an information site or just have a few downloadable products to promote or have just a few affiliate programs you promote - Wordpress works best - especially if your content is micro niche material.
Google loves Wordpress and its easy to work with. There are lots of plugins out there that will give you some fantastic functions such as auto posting your articles and auto posting to social bookmarking sites, etc

I built this site - AskBoyd.com using Wordpress
The Marketing Educator uses wordpress too

However Joomla has EVERYTHING. If you are building a community or you have a niche where you need to be able to silo it into micro niches on the same domain - pick Joomla
Joomla is complex and requires planning to really do it right.
Have a look at a boat store - still under construction. I use Joomla for our central hub site Songster Shops.
There are some fantastic mods that have been created for Joomla by some very talented people. I use one that allows me to list my affiliate products in bulk - have a look at this halloween site to see how the affiliate listings work.

So your original question - Whats better?
If the site is simple or its a simple micro niche - use wordpress - it goes up fast and gets indexed quickly.
If its a complex site - Joomla hands down
