I have a question for everyone and I probably know what kind of response I'll get. I want to know how many warriors here have been presented to be niche guru's hired gun in the IM area knowing pretty well they can have their choice of more experienced IMers.

I've made decent money marketing online but nothing worth quitting my day job for. I've been working with a client who is the perceived expert in thier niche and I've been helping them develop a info product with exclusive right to promote. Now after working closely for awhile I've been offered to basically create an IM department to manage and operate with a staff to promote the many products in services related to their niche.

I'm always cautious when it comes to people talking a big game and never delivering so my question to you is, have you had a similar experience and if so were you ready to jump in or did you ever consider that you may not be ready for the new big responsibility and forgo the opportunity.

Oh and yes I will be getting paid and making it worth quitting my day job, now the only thing really bugging me is what if the relationship gets sour.

Should I proceed with caution or jump right in, what are your thoughts

I had a partnership with a real estate marketing firm that sort of fell apart because of results not being fast enough for them. My lessons learned were:

    1) The original contract should have set out each parties responsibilities WAY more.
    2) I should have asked for a much higher share to offset the unknown expenses that were not covered by #1 above. In other words, I was covering all expenses and not receiving a share equivalent to my financial risk.
    3) I should have verified what the other partner was promising was financially correct. In other words, they didnt have the money, legal position etc that they originally represented. So do your homework on the partner.
    4) Each parties understanding and experience with marketing was drastically different. This created HUGE problems in major and even minor decisions that had to be made quickly. I would have set in the contract who's marketing philosophy would have been followed, the expected results and what to do if those results were not being met.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

Thanks John for your reply. That's exactly why I wrote this post. I would of never thought of what they thought Internet Marketing was and what they expect in return.

I need to find out more if this will be more of a strategic partnership rather than being simply employed and answering to another boss. LOL.
