    There is no top 10.....

Every niche is different and different people have different preferences.

It changes depending on your budget too.

I prefer PPC, JV's, SEO, Articles, Press Releases, Offline marketing and the techy stuff you can automate (social bookmarks, rss etc.) in general - but sometimes I focus on videos for some niches and sometimes I focus on articles only.

All you're going to get by asking for 'the best' is a bunch of different lists which may or may not apply to you -the same as you already have.

You know that when most of these people are selling you information - especially about traffic generation that it's not likely to be anything new and some of them will hype-up a particular strategy because they're trying to make you think they're telling you something new and powerful that you previously missed.

There is no secret to getting traffic and there is no 'top list' that applies to everyone or every business.

Great info Andy. Asking someone to give the "best" traffic strategies is liking asking a guy who the 10 sexiest women in the world are. I am pretty sure that if you ask 50 guys, you could easily get 50 different responses, and all of them would be valid.

The traffic strategies that are best are the ones you have tested for your particular niche. The traffic needs to be easy to obtain, semi-automated, and most importantly needs to convert into subscribers and buyers!

        Hi mlord10

It looks like it's back to the horses for courses approach. So what you are saying is that each individual should test and measure - that there are no shortcuts?

        Except the semi-automation - shortcut...LOL

        Regards

I'm saying that some methods work for some people, and some don't. Just like some traffic methods work better in some niches than others. I guess the "semi-automation" I was referring to would be traffic sources that after initial setup could run themselves, such as well ranking articles and videos, or building up an email list, twitter followers, facebook friends, etc.

Maybe "semi-automation" wasn't the best term for it.

To me, testing and tweaking is the best way to learn what really works, because you have actual data that is specific to your campaign, and once you analyze this data you can either cut or refine the traffic sources that aren't producing, and scale up the ones that are.

          Just my opinion of course.

My First Post (sorry for more than 10 - but it is a process deserving more details IMO)

There are far more than just this list, but you get the idea:

            · Optimize site (SEO).
Win on the search engines when people search for keyword phrases related to your products or services.

            · Get site listed in directories.
Submit your site to all the major web directories. This will generate traffic directly from the directories themselves and will also help to improve your link popularity That helps you win on Google!

            · Get listed in search engines.
Submit your site to all the major search engines.

            · Get links to site.
Get people with complimentary sites to link to yours. You offer rental kayaks on the beach. Ask the local restaurant owners to link to you, and offer to link to them. Ask the local tour guides, the real estate agents, the night clubs, and everyone else. Links lead to clicks onto your website and help to improve your search engine rankings.

            · Buy links to site.
Buy text links on other websites. That means more spiders stopping by, more people clicking through, and better search engine rankings.

            · Buy banner ads.
Buy banner ads on other websites. It helps to build brand recognition.

            · Participate in a banner exchange program.
It won't cost you anything, and will lead to a few extra visitors. Plus, you're spreading your brand all over the place.

            · Participate in a WebRing.
Connect your site with other sites in your niche.

            · Set up an affiliate marketing program.
With affiliate marketing, you can either pay per click, pay per lead generated, pay per sale, or pay per customer acquired.

            · Use smart public relations (PR).
Get news coverage of your business and your site. Approach online and traditional media. This will often lead to others placing links pointing to your website, which leads to more clicks and also to improved search engine rankings.

            · Use E-mail marketing.
Ugly, but effective for the cost. Blast out your special offers, but be nice about it.

            · Use off-line marketing.
Promote your site. Put your URL on all your license plates. Paint it on your car. Buy newspaper and yellow pages ads with your URL. Put up flyers and stickers. Sponsor a little league team. Do anything and everything to spread the word about your website around your city.

            · Run regular promotions.
Stage regular giveaways and spread the word about it.

            · Get published.
Write articles for publication on other websites. The author profile will link to your site. The article will show that you're an expert.

            · Publish yourself.
Write articles for your own site regularly. This will help you to win on the search engines and gives your visitors a reason to come back over and over.

            · Ask for reviews.
Ask for reviews of your self-published articles on other webmasters' websites. Ask for reviews of your website, your products, your software, your services. These will usually include links to your articles.

            · Write briefs.
Write daily or weekly news briefs focusing in on your industry or specialty area. This keeps your site "fresh" in the eyes of the major search engines and helps you to spread a wide net when fishing for top search engine positions.

            · Create a newsletter.
Ask your visitors to sign up for your newsletter, and encourage them to send it along to people they know. Send a newsletter regularly with teasers or lead-ins to your in-depth new articles or with special offers and the latest products.

            · Post in chat rooms.
Become active in bulletin boards and chat rooms focusing on the plumbing industry. Leave insightful comments from the experts, and people will click on their profile, then visit your site.

            · Give away free stuff.
Offer something people want at your site. Give them a reason to come back and get more. Offer free downloads and update them regularly. Offer coupons or discounts. Content content content.

            · Give awards for excellent sites in your niche.
This builds more links back to your site and establishes you as a credible reviewer, an expert in your space.

            · Run a contest and promote it.
Photo contests, essay contests, goofy contests, random drawings, anything. Example: Messiest Garage in America contest on OfftheFloor.com.

            · Join your local business organizations.
Chambers of Commerce and other organizations will often add your site to their member directory. That's an added advantage over the obvious business-building and networking opportunities.

            · Create an RSS feed.
Give people another way to interact with your content.

            · Be accessible.
Build your site so that it is accessible to all browsers and to PocketPC and Palm Pilot users. Don't forget, people with disabilities buy things too. Make your site Section 508 complaint. Your competition probably hasn't.

            and lastly:
            · Pay for clicks to your site (Adwords, Facebook or Linkedin ads) – you said you already do this? We should look at analysing the results...
Pay for clicks or inclusion on the search engines so that people will see your site in the sponsored links section of the search results when they search for keyword phrases related to your products or services.

I hope this helps the n00bs - there is no magic bullet when it comes to Pagerank and targeted marketing... a mixture of all does the trick nicely!

            Happy Hunting everyone!

Hey there! My personal favorites are as follows: They may not be the best (some are though :-), but they all work.
                • Article Marketing
                • Forum Marketing
                • Yahoo Answers
                • Commenting on Blogs (that have high traffic)
                • Link Building (I use Angelas backlinks and Paul's Quality Links)
                • I buy Power Leads from Get Response
                • US Freeads
I use others at times to test what works, but the above list has worked the best for my situation.

                Hope that helps.

I agree with some comments here. There is no top 10 on how to generate traffic to your site. It also depends on your niche. In my case, I only use 4 free methods: Forum posting, article marketing, blog commenting and guest blogging. I do those consistently, as in every single day, and I get decent result from it. I focus on list building, Once you have thousands of subscribers, you can create your own product and tell your subscribers to promote your product and offer them a generous commissions. That way, you are leveraging your effort to them, and leveraging is the key to success, you can't do it by yourself alone.

It's not how many methods of traffic generation you're applying, but how consistent you are applying those methods. I can't do 10 traffic generating methods, because some of them will just be a waste of time.

Yes you are right. Again we come back to the "horse for course" approach.

What suits one person may not suit or work for another.

Test and measure. And then, test and measure some more.

            Hi mlord10

            Thanks again for the info.

And, especially for the clarification of semi-automated.

Testing and tweaking is great advice for anyone who is seriously interested in making money online - or offline.

      Agree completely.

The marketing techniques are going to be different to some degree based on what you are trying to sell. My background is in adult, so some of the ways I use to get traffic will be very different they a mainstream marketer. Someone selling tangibles, may market different then someone selling virtual goods.

It really will vary. That said, there are some excellent points in this thread.

Ah finally someone pointing out the different product types and the need for a different approach to getting traffic.

Yes for the most part physical products do take a different line than virtual/digital type products.

JVs (Adswaps included) and affiliates. Without doubt.

It's not the number of traffic methods you use (ten is far more than I could put my time into) it's about consistently apllying them. Pick a couple of methods and do them WELL.

For example, with regard to affiliates, most people put an 'affiliates click here' link on their site and think that's affiliate traffic covered. Then they move to something else.

Some go to the trouble of putting up an affiliate centre with some graphics, banners and a couple of sample emails which is much better - the easier you make it for your affiliates to promote, the more they will promote.

The more guidance and support you give to your affiliates, the more successful they (and of course you) will become. So those who give their affiliates LOTS of resources: ezine articles, keyword lists, sample adverts, classified site lists, free brandable reports to give away etc. etc. tend to succeed with this traffic method.

Better still, those who COACH their affiliayes by giving them a route to follow get the very best results. ie. telling them EXACTLY how to promote your products in a step-by-step plan... (day 1: send out this email, day three: give away this report, day 6: list the following adverts at the following sites, day 8: run this broadcast etc etc.)

I agree with Andy -- there is no top 10.

It's not about Traffic Techniques but TARGETED traffic based on your niche.

Most replies here are going to assume we're talking about the IM niche - however, many here are running non-IM niches.

JVs and Adswap? Ok, that may not apply much if you're running a Public Court Records site or a Video Game Addiction niche.

It all depends on your niche and what you're promoting.

We can make a list of 10,000+ techniques, but they're nothing without any step-by-step process and each of the technique is a lot of work by itself.

      But it is niche dependent.....

I have hundreds of sites and the 'best' traffic source is different for each of them and there are no common things that apply to all.

This is why you need to use your brain for your own business and not rely on other people telling you how to make it successful.

    Greetings!

Traffic for a website is as important as cars for a road. If the road is designed with so much expenses but if it does not receive any cars and trucks traffic, then it is of no use. Similarly, a website is in fact designed for traffic - traffic of every type and from every corner of the world. Generating traffic on a website is a truly hard task, which requires a lot of time as well as money. Nevertheless, there are a number of ways, which you can adopt free of cost in order to generate legal and valid traffic on your website. Below are top 10 ways discussed to get free traffic on your website?
    1) Article marketing: Article marketing means writing and publishing articles related to the topic of your website or blog on various article marketing websites. Most popular article marketing websites include EzineArticles.com and ArticlesBase.com. These websites receives millions of visitors every month and read articles on different topics. You can publish your article with some popular relevant keyword and should also give a link to your website.
    2) Press Release: There is no doubt that online free press releases receive thousands of readers every week from almost every corner of the world. Therefore, publishing a press release of your website can be responsible of generating a diversified as well as comprehensive traffic.
    3) Video Marketing: Make videos of the niche of your blog or website and broadcast on YouTube.com and similar other websites. These websites also receive millions of visitors every month from all around the globe and hence can join your website.
    4) Comment on Blogs: You should use blog comments for getting free traffic on your website as much as possible. You should make thousands of posts on thousands of blogs and should reply to people's questions. This will allow the readers to view your link every time you make a comment.
    5) Reviews on Amazon: You can also submit reviews on Amazon.com. People wish to read reviews of various products before making the purchase and hence when they will read your written review they will also be introduced with your link and hence you will be generating free traffic.
    6) Free Classifieds: There are hundreds of free classified websites where you are allowed to paste the link of your website. This not only allows you to get direct traffic through classified sites but also improve your page rank.
    7) Email Signature: Putting the address of your website in your email signature is a proven and practical way. You just need to enter the website address below your email signature. Every time you make the email to your clients, family members or friends, you tell them about your website.
    8) Social Networking Tools: You should use groups of social networking websites in order to post your link. However, you should join only associated and relevant groups. Do not post the address of your website where there are no people interested in the topic.
    9) Free Product or Service: You should offer some free product or service out of your website or blog, which should be attractive enough for people. This will add to the probability of staying at the website and making purchases.
    10) Do not miss any chance of advertising: You should not miss any single chance of advertising your website. Try to tell the benefits and features of your website along with its URL to as many people as you can.

Traffic is not a generic element of marketing. It needs to be targeted to the niche you are marketing.

For immediate traffic I would propose the following:

    1.Pay Per Click
    2.CPA

Those two methods will get you immediate traffic for a smoke test and provide you a good overall idea of a conversion rate.

Be sure that you really have your act together before utilizing these sources as you it is costly in time, money and traffic.

Once you have a well converting site, you can of course continue on with PPC or CPA but here are some other sources to consider:

Joint Ventures - Partnering with other marketers with established lists. Note here that list size is not as important as a targeted list to your niche.

Affiliates - You can be very successful driving traffic to a site with your own army of affiliates. The key here as with prospects is to build a relationship with your affiliates. Work with them, provide them good content to share with their lists.

Social Media - Social sites such as Facebook, Hubpages, Twitter, YouTube can also be of value in bringing in the traffic. However, the key to most social sites is again building relationships with your following. With that said, start now on building your social site presence so it is ready for use when you need it.

A special note here would be VIDEO marketing. Remember, "a picture is worth a thousands words." You are losing out if your are not using video marketing in your traffic generation efforts.

Create a traffic "combo platter" by utilizing more than just one type of traffic getting effort.

I would always suggest that you include in your traffic generation portfolio the following:

    Press Releases
    Article Marketing
    Forum Marketing
    Blogging

      Hi Imamrktr

Thanks for the great feedback. Testing with some PPC or running some CPA to see if results are possible. Good plan. The old test and measure approach.

Then - on good conversions - crank it up a notch or two. Plus add the extras mentioned.

We like the idea especially for the folks who have a few marketing dollars laying around.

      Regards

      Hi,
I agree that depends on the niche, but there are tactics that require more work than others. First of all, you need to understand that making money online is not different than making money anywhere else.
My best piece of advise, do not believe everyone that's telling you they are making xxx$$$ online and are trying to convince you to buy their ebook or course or whatever.

Find something you like, a niche you are knowledgeable on , do you think is it monetizable?
adsense pays pretty low?, what about CPA related offers or clickbank, will you be able to sell ad space in the future? can you sell amazon related products?
If the answer is yes, go ahead and dive into it, find your keywords, build a wordpress site, start writing fresh content, promote it in the relevant circles, forums and blogs, find where your "crowd" hangs out.

By the way, you said, no links, so I am posting no links, but if you go to my blog (in my signature), you will find a free report (no sign-ups, nothing...free for the warriors as a contribution for all I learned here) on how to build and research niches and keywords and build kw optimized wp sites, you can try it if you want, it can give you an edge.
The best advise is start taking action....
      good luck.

        Hi Denise

ah tactics - specific tactics for specific niches. Thats a great insight. thanks for the non-link.

And a good warning to heed about not believing everything or one you bump into online (or offline for that matter).

        regards

    You should focus on 4 things;

    - The Domain Name
    - Keywords

    - Backlinks

Any other traffic method is just hard work.

Press release sites work very well for me and usually bring in a lot of traffic many months after my PR was first released.

I would love to get traffic by using videos but I simply cannot get it to work but I will re-visit it again to see where I am going wrong.

          Hi Mark

As we mentioned earlier on - it's horse for course.

If Press releases are "WORKING" for you then keep doing them.

That actually seems to be the flavour that is coming through - whatever works for you is what you need to continue to do.

          Regards

Well, it all depends on the niche
you are offering to the market.

You have to test the various methods
that have been identified earlier and

One way of doing this quickly is through Article Marketing. You can create one article and have it distributed to a ton of different article sites, thus giving you backlinks over a period of time. I attached a link to an article submitter software site I found which can provide some direction.

Here are my thoughts on traffic generation:-

Firstly it is not something I overly concern myself about any more - as long as there's a hungry market online there is a way to reach them.

If you're in a competitive market such as make money online, FOREX and so on then trying to get web properties ranked on Google for organic traffic is going to be a nightmare.

You'll also find that paid advertising is at a premium and unless you have a strong profit funnel that means you earn a high value per visitor (typically a higher value per visitor than your competitors) then you'll struggle to turn a profit from the likes of PPC and media buys (I'm not saying it can't be done, but for the new internet marketer there's a lot involved in getting it right).

But in these markets you can focus on collaboration for traffic generation - giveaways, adswaps, integration marketing and so forth.

You'll also find that there are plenty high profile web sites that will accept guest contributions taking your content directly to a homepage of a high traffic site and there will always be high traffic forums that you can add value to.

If you're in a niche with less competition then there will be less partners to joint venture with and less popular high profile sites. I'd therefore put more weight on trying to get some decent organic listings by building an authority site over time and experimenting with content sydnication (article marketing, e-book submissions, web 2.0 sites etc.) to dominate the relatively easy to reach long tail key phrases for the niche.

Then of course there's all the niches that sit in between these two extremes in which traffic generation techniques vary in effectiveness.

Where I went wrong at the beginning (and I can see a lot of other people looking at internet marketing from this perspective too) is that I focused far too much of my time on traffic generation without having a strong "system" in place.

In retrospect I should have spent longer really trying to find a hungry market, matching an offer to that market (testing it) and then building up a strong profit funnel. Then I could have focussed all my time on traffic generation safe in the knowledge that 3 in 100 will convert (for instance).

Edit: Forgot to mention social media mainly because I don't do it! But I've been told it works :-)

      Hi Paj

      Ah the Hungry Market approach.

Yes that definately is a good place to target. And approaching it in a unique way isn't such a bad idea either.

      Thanks for the input.

      Regards

As said its not the quantity of traffic its the quality

What i have learned getting the quality niche traffic, is build blogs on free blog hosting sites with niche subdomain, and link to your main site with deeplinks and index links with different keywords.

It has worked for me on the sales.

Backlinks - Quality traffic over Quantity - free hosted blogs as the backbone.

      Excellent.

      Thanks for the great feedback.

      Hi Brittany

Thanks for your input to the thread.

Sounds like you are going at IM from the relationship point of view and creating a postion in the market as a friend and authority.

      Smart move.

      Well done.

Just so you have a little backgriound on what I do: I have a blog at blogger.com and also a website. Both are about advice, relationships and just making our lives more positive. I want to motivate people in one way or another. Also, I talk about anxiety, depression and OCD quite a bit because I have been dealing with those things most of my life.

So anyway... to the question :

Whenever I write about something new, I will (using ping.fm for most) update my status on twitter, myspace, facebook, and yahoo with a link to my latest work. I will also sometimes answer questions on yahooanswers with a link to my site (I answer questions related to my topic). I willl also put a link on digg and shetoldme when I remember. I haven't had the time lately to do all of that.. ping is the fastest.

I have also created a seperate twitter for my website/blog and a facebook group for my website. Those seem to help as well.

I think in doing what I do, it is extremely important to keep things creative and show people that you are just another person in the world. I make sure to answer all their comments and emails. This way they will know that I care about them as indivduals.

I also make a point to comment on other people's statuses if they appeal to me. (I have over 300 friends on facebook alone.. I make it a point to search for and add people who are interested in the same things as I am)

I think that covers everything. I hope this helps someone I may be a newbie in some ways, but I have learned my own techniques along the way.

I have several sites and the same thing seems to work best for me on all of them. Adding new content that other sites will want to link to seems to be the best use of my time. It's slower than some promotional activities but it consistently works and builds a site with traffic that is not dependent on search engine traffic (83% of my traffic comes from sources other than search engines). If Google, Yahoo, MSN, and the others say to hell with my sites tomorrow, my income drops by a mere 17%.

The only promotional activity I spend time on is getting backlinks from other respected sites that preferably relate to the content on my site. That way the link is not just valuable for whatever effect it may or may not have on my search engine rankings. It also has potential to send traffic directly to my site. That takes about 1% of my time. The other 99% is spent writing content.

I don't bother with any promotional activity that only promises to increase my ranking at search engines. I've done many marketing tests over the years and have found that adding "linkable" content is a much better use of my time. It's a little bit like that line in the movie, "Field of Dreams". "Build a usefull, informative site and the links will come".

      Hi Rick

Linkable content - thats a new one to the list.

Most importantly, you have found "what works for you" and are continuing to build based on what an approach that isn't all that reliant on the SE.

Well done and thanks for the info.

Try to write an interesting story. For example, your trip to Easter Island is a lot more exciting than one to the local grocery. Under water pictures of a coral reef are more exciting than your pet pig.

I still remember a kid in school that use to jump backwards over garbage cans. Hey every one was talking about him and he was max pop. If you need ideas, look at you tube movies.

I am not really an IM guy, but have many websites selling physical products.

Here is my top traffic generation techniques:

        1) MEDIA: it's free and the simple fact is that they need you just as much as you need them. In any given niche there are hundreds of blogs and online magazines. Just hit them up, give them a win-win scenario. Journalists are always looking for people to give quotes and weigh in on certain topics. To look like they put work in and did they're job, they will recruit people to give quotes. The people they recruit are generally "experts" in this field. So let's say you have a weight loss product. Send a nice email to all health blogs and journalists both online and offline and let them know that you would love to help them out if they ever need anything, blah blah blah! More times than none, they will call on you to give a quote, clarify an industry specific question, etc. And as you know, when somebody uses you for something they always give you the credit! BAM! you just reached your TARGETED customers and now they hold you in a higher light because you just became the EXPERT on the topic.

Now you sit back and watch these hungry customers rush to your site, email you for your opinions and basically eat out of your hand, simply because they're favorite blogger or journalists thinks of you as some type of "expert"

BUT the only hitch in this is YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT - which eliminates a good portion of IM'ers (no offense lol).

        2) Partnerships: In business, you can't even walk down the street or stroll around Google without finding complimentary businesses that would love to send you traffic. Let's say you sell gift baskets online and there is a mid size offline company ($500K-$2M) that supplies product to you. Pitch them an idea to launch a postcard, flier, billboard, adwords, banner ads - marketing campaign to increase their brand awareness. This is something that they probably have no clue about. Now they're game because the risk/reward ratio you're talking about is peanuts to them. They probably spend $10k to go to one tradeshow and $3k a month for a tired ass magazine ad. Now you let them know that since you have an online store that converts really well and are already a distributor, they should ad a little text on their marketing materials that says "Buy online at -----Baskets.com" - BAM now you have free marketing!

These are just a few tricks that I've used throughout the years to muster up free traffic ... I haven't been active on the WF for some time now but will be coming back on to learn from you all and try to help others out also!

            Brownyn & Keith,

Yea, unfortunately some folks around here focus their time too much on what they heard other members tell them. What they don't get is this is a free speech forum, anyone can say anything!

My point of writing these methods down is, try new things don't rely on other broke people to tell you how to make money!!

SEO, PPC, articles, JV's are all great in theory - IF you know how to use them. SEO would be sincerely the worst form of traffic generation if you don't know how to optimize your title tags and meta info. PPC would be crippling to your business if you go in there looking for CTR and clicks instead of hooking up analytics and tracking conversions!

"Outside of your comfort zone is where progression hides!"

              Hi Greg

Stepping outside your comfort zone is in most cases the "absolute" prerequisite for success.

              Agree totally.

              Regards

My point of writing these methods down is, try new things don't rely on other broke people to tell you how to make money!!

SEO, PPC, articles, JV's are all great in theory - IF you know how to use them. SEO would be sincerely the worst form of traffic generation if you don't know how to optimize your title tags and meta info. PPC would be crippling to your business if you go in there looking for CTR and clicks instead of hooking up analytics and tracking conversions!

"Outside of your comfort zone is where progression hides!"

With threads like these you wonder why traffic is still the killer for most IM businesses. It has to do with execution, not education.

      Hi Mike

      Great response.

If you don't do it - it won't happen.

So no matter what traffic source you use it is up to you to take the steps.

      Thanks for the input.

      regards

      Hi Matt

Agree with you that each person will find the Top 10 that work for them. Perhaps they may even stick with 3 or 4 that fill the traffic need.

The idea of the thread was to table as many different possibilities as we could fromvarious Warriors so that people could pick and choose - a bit like the food on a buffet - you only take what you want.

      regards

Sorry guys for the slow response to your questions. I've been really busy increasing my income by adding content to my sites. It really does work and is, in my opinion, the best long term method of producing income on the web.

In response to your questions about how I get sites with similar themes to link to my sites I'll just say that the best way by far is to make your content something that they will want to link to and the backlinks will come. I'll give you some examples:

Let's say that you have a golf site. What might other golf site webmasters want to link to? How about a page about the top ten golfers of all time? Or one about valuable putting tips? Or how to get tickets to golf events? Or what is the best brand of golf clubs? Or How to get another 10 yards out of your driver?

If you have a movie review site add pages about the all time 50 best movies or be more specific with a page about the 10 best romantic comedies or the 10 actors or actresses who have appeared in the most movies.

If it's really interesting, the backlinks will come.

Now if you want to actively go after backlinks you could post messages at forums. For example, you could place a link for the top 10 golfers of all time page at Country Club forums or contact the webmaster and ask them to add a link to that page on their site.

Depending on the subject matter of your site, there may also be "authority sites" that are recognized as experts in that subject. Some of those have sections where they post links to other interesting sites or pages. One of those links are worth numerous links from directories, social networking pages, articles, etc.

Let me re-emphasize that I spend 5% of my time on maximizing advertising revenues, 5% on actively seeking links, 5% learning new technologies, and 85% writing quality web pages.

My sites have well over 20,000 backlinks from following this method. I'm not dependent of the good graces of the search engines either. 82% of my traffic comes from other sources (mostly from those backlinks). It hasn't happened overnight. It's taken a half dozen years but I'm earning a full time living from website earnings and every year I'm getting a substantial "raise" every single year.

I'm not saying that other things like aggressive promotions don't work for others but that avenue has never gotten me anywhere near the results that I get from simply adding pages to the web that people find interesting. And everything else mostly takes care of itself. Just don't expect to see results in months. As in any new business on or off the web, "get rich quick" is one in a million. The rest of us worked hard for a few years before reaping the rewards.

It may not be what you want to hear but it is the truth.

      Hey Rick

      Thanks for the great input.

Especially the part about not being reliant on the search engines.
