Let Me Tell You The Truth About Offline Marketing
Lately I have seen a lot of people/guru's jumping on the offline bandwagon...Trying to sell you products showing how easy it is to make big $$$ with little effort in the offline niche...Hey all you have to do is make a few phone call, get some appointments and pretty soon you'll be walking out with cheques for thousands of $$$$..As someone who runs a moderately successful offline business I thoughts I share my experiences with you, which may or may not help in anyway (but hopefully will do!)
Reality Check Number 1 - Offline Marketing Is Not Easy!!!!
Just like online marketing, offline marketing is hard! You have to actively generate leads, provide the products/service and manage the client...Believe it or not businesses or not actively knocking on your door begging for you to sell them internet marketing services!!! Generating leads can be very hard, cold calling, approaching businesses etc require A LOT of effort, grit and determination....Furthermore once you have the client, depending on the scope of work, managing them, dealing with them can be a serious hassle...Very rarely do clients pay you their money and you never hear from them again...Be prepared to put in serious work to find clients and then keep them happy....
Reality Check Number 2 - Competition is absolutely fierce!!!
Contrary to popular opinion offline marketing is not some rare untapped niche, there are hundreds if not thousands of companies offering internet marketing services to local businesses on a daily basis...I can't tell you the amount of time we speak to people who politely inform us that they are the 5th people they have spoken to today offering IM services....You may think that you are great at SEO or Web Design but so are the hundred other companies doing exactly the same thing...The market is very crowded already
Reality Check Number 3 - You do need a fairly good understanding of IM/Websites (especially if you are selling SEO)
While many courses may say all you need to do is oursource, my experience has been that if you plan on selling things like web design, SEO, PPC management etc, you will definitely need either to know it extremely well or have a reliable partner who does....For example if you plan on selling SEO to a larget company who runs their site on Joomla be sure that either you or you team member understands Joomla extremely well..You would be quite amazed how complicated and badly coded some websites are....If you are planning to manage their website, you will need to know this otherwise you will get found out very quickly...If you plan on building your offline business either teach yourself or partner with an expert very quickly...This is one of the most important things you can do..
Reality Check No 4 - Clients CAN be a serious pain to deal with
I kind of touched upon this before but if you think you are going to sell someone SEO collect $500 per month off them and never hear from then again , then you are solely mistaken...Some clients are cool, but other can be very demanding and will drive you insane with ridiculous questions, emails, phone calls etc...Even if you are doing a one off job like designing and selling a website, that can be very time consuming and cause a lot of stress..
Now some good news..
Reality Check No 5 - There is definitely money to be made offline
If you are prepared to work extremely hard, then my experience has been there is definitely money to be made offline..Its probably up to you to decide what's best to get into (I had most success selling SEO) but I can tell you there are offline businesses who will be prepared to pay you for IM services. Hanging around the warrior forum all day, distorts reality...You would be amazed at how little some people know about the web and internet marketing in general...
This has been my experience so far....I'll gladly help as much as I can anyone with any questions
