Calling all leaders...

OK Warriors...here it is:

Are leaders, specifically in our industry, found or made?

I've heard arguements for both sides of this debate and concede great points for each side. I've got my thoughts on the topic, but I wanna open it up to you guys for debate!

Also, does it differ for traditional network marketing vs. internet marketing?!

Can't wait for your takes!

Yours in success,
Jason

Leaders are definitely made. There is something to be said for an individual who makes a "name" for themselves by taking massive action.

People like that are few and far between.

I think it's the same for traditional and internet marketing. Actions always speak louder than words. It's hard to be regarded as a leader if you have none of that special clout that is gained by taking action and succeeding.

I think they are made. They are the people who find the most effective way to help (give value) to the most people.

I agree that leaders in this industry are "made", but I definitely believe that some people are just born with leadership skills and qualities. In that sense, we "find" those people in our quest to build massive organizations. It's our jobs as leaders/uplines/etc. to develop these individuals to help maximize their leadership potential.

This is not to say that people can't learn to become leaders (aka "made"), but those who have those leadership qualities inherent in who they are develop into leaders significantly faster.

      Thoughts?

I think a leadership is natural, but to be a leader in certain areas, such as IM, you have to further make yourself into one.

For example, I consider myself a leader at my prop. trading firm and on the rugby field. I influence others daily, motivate my co-workers, etc. etc. I feel I have the natural influence on others to be a leader.

But, in the world of IM I do not consider myself a leader...not yet anyway. I think to be a leader in IM you have to have a proven track record of success, a vast amount of education across multiple areas of IM...and you have to be a known name in the IM field...even if you are only somewhat known.

You have to have a following in IM. If you have a responsive list that you teach 'how to make money online to', and deliver them your own hand-made quality information and products, then I think that would qualify as a leader.

As for myself, although I have had my success in IM and have good knowledge across multiple areas, IM is not the niche I target...and I do not intend to in the future.

I am happy being 'un-discovered' in IM and 'staying on the sidelines' in a sort of way.

I think it's a combination of the two, with a heavy emphasis on "made."

If the person doesn't have the ability or aptitude then it will be very difficult to make them into a top leader. However, if the person has an ingrained desire to lead and you hone his/her abilities, then you can make a great leader.

But first you need to find that person. ;-)

    Hi Jason,

Life is what your thoughts make of it. Leaders think and feel that they are leaders and proceed to become leaders, even though no person starts out as a leader. The thinking and feeling part of life has required much more effort for me than to move into action. Once your thoughts are right everything else falls into place effortlessly.

Some seem to be born with the characteristics of leadership but it takes fine tuning to become a renowned person in your industry. Everybody has to work at it.
