Hey All,

I'm looking for some Direct Mail courses, books and experts to learn from. I'd love any suggestions. They can be any type of direct mail - post cards, lumpy mail, etc. I'm looking to learn anything I can about conversions, graphics, testing, systems, etc.

Thanks!

  • Let me suggest ONE book to get you started, and you can pick it up cheap at Amazon for just a few dollars. It is

7 Steps to Freedom II by Benjamin D. Suarez.

It is still used as a text book in college classes on Direct Response Marketing. Ben likes to call it Remote Direct Marketing. Once you have the origninal book, contact me via email, gjabiz@yahoo.com I completed an UPDATE for the book last year and can shed some "modern" light on what is happening today in the Direct Mail business. I also helped Ben create The Remote Direct Marketing Home Study Course which had 18 videos and was comprehensive on the subject.

I've worked (as recently as this year) with some good sized and some well known names in the business and can probably get you started down the right road. The book 7 Steps covers everything you want to learn about conversions, graphics, testing, systems and much more. Just be prepared, it is over 1000 pages hardbound, just like a good college course book should be. And in places, just as boring. But, there isn't anything else like it on the market.

  • Hi Dennis:

That's an easy one. Go straight to the direct mail king himself, Denny Hatch! By the way, I'm not the only one who considers Denny Hatch the direct mail king. That's who he's known as throughout the marketing world.

    • I've had some experience. I placed a small ad in a magazine whose target audience is people looking for money-making opportunities, bought a post office box, and earned money from my booklet. Not a fortune, but good pin money, although for the most part, the results weren't consistent.

I'm planning to launch another effort, this time focusing on a specific area, placing a classified ad in that magazine that includes a website for readers to visit and order a short report from online. I think that this will work even more effectively.

  • I have learned alot from Ben Hart's membership site. He has a ton of information that has helped me both in my previous sales career and online. Google Ben Hart, his website is the first one.
