I apologize if this thread has appeared before, but I couldn't find it through a search, so.....

Do you use live video or Powerpoint or its like for your marketing videos?

Which do you find the most effective?

It depends on the message. The beauty of the powerpoint approach is that people can read and listen to your message at the same time. Engaging multiple senses simultaneously reinforces the message. But most of your personality and passion can get lost since the prospect cannot see you.

As it works out, it seems I use the powerpoint style for sales and the "live" approach for other content.

There is an ever-growing challenge to keep viewers locked into your video, due to multiple distractions on and off the computer screen. So when I produce a video now, I always look to add "entertainment value" fitting with the audience. In the end, these videos have a longer viewing time for me than straight up slide videos.

What this has come down to is using a combination of elements in video production, to create surprise, humour, interest, and generally get people into the story line more. Hence, ComboCasting.

Even though the basis of your production can be on a power point slide, the combination of elements you might include are png or psd images, other Youtube videos, music from itunes, your own web-cam, other websites or assets, movie clips, and video from your own camera.

This video I used Sopranos (and other YT videos) clips: (LANGUAGE WARNING)

This video I used a Leonardo DiCaprio movie preview:

**Note: Make sure you give credit to movies at the end of your video.

Both work well in my experience. If you have to show something in action or being demonstrated then obviously a live video is the best way to go. If you're explaining a concept, PowerPoint and Camtasia can work just as well as live action -- as long as you keep the video interesting and don't just have slide after slide of plain text.
