Hey campers,

Before y'all pack up and head out for the weekend, I wanted to float this topic out there.

LinkedIn sure hasn't gotten a lot of love in recent months (as opposed to Facebook).

Is it still a viable 'social' forum for business people? Is it still taken seriously like it once was?

    From what I have been seeing Linked-In is more for resumes and touting your abilities as oppossed to a social media platform such as facebook. Facebook allows much more interaction thank linked in.

      Linkedin is actually great for generating leads for offline consulting. Better than FB. Join the groups (max is 50.) and use Linkedin Answers.

    LOVE? WHAT!?!??!?

    Facebook isn't even really the same, and linkedin is targeted to BUSINESS, NOT just ANYONE like facebook.

    Linkedin, isn't really targetting the same market as Facebook, as you mentioned Linkedin is for business people and within the company I work for we ALL use Linkedin, to follow, stalk and become friends with clients & network with people we want to talk business with.

    Linkedin is also a very strong research basis for finding people who own a certain company, work for a certain company...it's basically an online directory for leads and clients

    Well, in reply, I'm very familiar with LinkIn.

    The reason that I asked the question I did in the original post, is because I've had my head down, working 16 hour days for quite a long time on a couple of major development projects. My LinkedIn account has been ignored for about 2 years.

    Also, my comment about LinkedIn not gettting a lot of love...on the WF there's a lot of comments and discussion about FB, but little about LinkedIn. Just an observation on my part, and probably not a valid one either.

    LinkedIn has always been a great networking tool, and it appears that not much has changed recently.

    I get regular inquiries about jobs through LinkedIn. I don’t think it’s for you to contact the people you know directly. It’s for finding those people that are once or twice removed from you, or for them to find you. I got contacted by a recruiter from Google based on my LinkedIn profile and I start there in 3 weeks.

    on the WF there's a lot of comments and discussion about FB, but little about LinkedIn
    Facebook has embedded ads that can be very reasonably priced, fan pages and a wide range of participants from all walks of life, and WF posters are looking for ways to leverage and monetize all of that.

    Linked In's membership isn't really the target market for IM offers particularly of the very common "for just $17 I'll tell you how to make a billion dollars a minute" flavor.
