Making Your Squeeze & Sales Page Videos Autoplay

Did you know you can make your YouTube videos start automatically when you embed them on your squeeze page, sales page, or any other kind of web page? I didn't know you could do this until recently, so I thought I'd share the procedure with the rest of you. That's just the kind of guy I am. LOL

1. Go to YouTube and click the Embed link below any video you want to embed on your site (even your own, of course).

2. Copy the provided Embed code and paste in Notepad or the Mac equivalent.

3. Look for both instances of the URL to the video page at YouTube. It will look something like this, and there are 2 instances of it in the Embed code:

HTML Code:
http://www.youtube.com/v/YfrCGXw8JWg?fs=1&hl=en_US
4. At the end of that string of text (both places you see it), add this: &autoplay=1

5. So, that part of the code will now look like this:

HTML Code:
http://www.youtube.com/v/YfrCGXw8JWg?fs=1&hl=en_US&autoplay=1
Now copy the full Embed code and paste it into your web page like you normally would. Whenever anyone visits that page, the YouTube video will start playing automatically.

This is great for video squeeze pages, some sales pages, blog posts, etc.

You know, maybe I'm too much of a marketing geek, but I think when you go to a squeeze page you expect to get hit with the offer. Most of the video squeeze pages I see use autoplay. Again, maybe I'm de-sensitized from lots of exposure, but this really does not annoy me at all. And it's not like you've removed all the controls on the video (something that DOES annoy the crap outta me). It just starts when you arrive, but you can still pause it and all the rest.

It's something to consider, though, so thanks for mentioning it Rob. Use at your own peril. LOL

I guess as marketers we have come to expect and anticipate Autoplay videos, but what really annoys me is when they remove the controls on the video that allow you to fast forward, pause and rewind. I know they're trying to make it sound like a limited, once in a lifetime opportunity, but it really annoys me not to be able to fast forward through some stuff or replay something that I might have missed.

Hear hear! That annoys the crap outta me, too! When the controls are gone and I can't pause (or find out how long the video even is) I usually leave that site pronto!

Great tip, John. I think I read about it somewhere before, but had unfortunately pushed it back to the inner recesses of my mind, lol. It's just like the Wordpress audio/mp3 player plugin (Wordpress Audio Player) that you drop on your WP site - you have the option of making the music autoplay and even loop/repeat. There's also an option to play multiple tracks.

I think they're slowly starting to go away now (the videos with autoplay and no controls). They were all the rage over a year ago when some marketer (I believe that it was Keith Wellman) came out with that easy video "formula" to amass lots of sales. It may have worked for a while, but I think people just got tired of sitting through all those videos.
