Picking a domain or company name - which is better?

SEO considerations aside, would you rather have a domain or company name that is easy to remember or one that explains what the company does?

The obvious answer is "both," but if you had to choose one or the other, which one would you go with.

For example - StomperNet vs The Internet Marketing Center.

Easy to remember... gives you more scope if the business moves in a different direction..IMHO..

I agree with Jay.

If you can brand a name it will be easier to remember and you can expand your offerings easier.

Like you said having both and point the descriptive name to your branded name would be best.

Easy to remember for sure. Off the top of my head I can list many companies who have quick easy to remember names, but very few who's names actually mean anything (or are related to their business)

Ok, based on what you guys are saying, what do you think of this...

I have this wierd little domain name which just sticks in my mind. Honestly, I don't even know why I got it, but it just has a ring to it. The domain name has nothing to do with anything other than I think that people will remember it.

The domain is Press7.com

It sounds silly but there is something about the double ss sound that makes it roll off the tongue. Also, whenever someone presses 7 they may possibly remember the name.

How crazy am I for liking this name? Does it make you want to know what the heck press7.com is, or is it just in my mind?

No... I do think it has a ring to it Ron... you're not crazy...

I'm not completely sure what it is.. but I do remember Eben Pagan talking about a similar thing in a seminar...

It's the continuous ring that does it... and also the number seven starts with an S so it is a repetition thing...

It's all to do with the phonological loop in your brain... works a treat
