Long story but lesson well learned...and important enough to mention.

This week I bought a script that was was supposed to do X. Very highly reccomended within the niche and well worth the price if it did what it said.

I was directed to their website and indicated that I should register, verify via email, come back and sign-in and then I could download my product...All well and good, but they never verified my registration!

I emailed them multiple times with no reply, and finaly out of frustration I filed a complaint at Paypal and Escalated it (some of you will know what that means)...

Finally, some outfit I've never heard of emails me the script as an attachment in some kind of machine generated email...

ARRRRGGGGHHH!

On the bright side, I was hanging out with a close friend last night, drinking a few brews and shooting the breeze when I mentioned this.

He's a parks and recreation director for the city and has the buying responsibility for a fairly large amount of recreational equipment...like treadclimbers and stuff.

He says, you know I buy stuff from a lot of different vendors but there's this one place. They're more expensive than almost anybody, but there customer service is fantastic. "When I call the place sometimes it doesn't even ring on my end before they pick up!"

"When I called them the other day to buy a new set of scales and some cords for the two I already had because they wear out where they go into the scale...the girl took my order for the new scale and explained that they had solved the problem with the wear on the cords and sent me two more new scales!"

"The only complaint I have with them considering their prices, is that now I'm up to my ass in scales!"

Rambling I know, but there's a lesson in there somewhere.

Oh yeah! Sometimes you may have to pay a little more for some piece of mind. Don't mind doing that at all if it saves me some headaches.

Unfortunately customer service in IM is a low value activity, and as a result you'll only see a few rare businesses (usually the bigger ones) who have the resources and wherewithal to train, delegate and monitor their outsourced force effectively.

You'll find that many of these scripts don't last and their business cycles is somewhere between 6 months and 2 years. We started backwards in phpLD. We started with free support, and then only after our script was solid and popular did we start to charge, and have been doing it for about 5 years now.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Well just like you said, lesson learned. Sometimes it's best to experience something in order to learn a valuable lesson. Also I'm always looking to partner with good people with great ideas so if I can help please let me know.

I regularly pay more for good service. I have gotten so tired of the "walmart" mindset that you have to buy the cheapest. I think it almost hurts a person mentally to ALWAYS focus just on the dollar bills and not the overall experience. I think that in any business today, if you can provide SUPER customer experience then you automatically have a strong USP.
