The answer to this question will help me understand something that may help all the "Newbies" in a great way. Please take out a second and do post your response, even if a dozen people have already done it.

Appreciate it very much.

Thanks

No, I don't. Why would you think this?

The reason why I even had to ask this question was because there are several newbies, who own their websites and don't know how to write html, etc and are new to IM hence, they refer to themselves as newbies ...

So if I was to recommend a product that anyone can use, specially people who have been able to reach awstats, would it be safe to say that this tool can be used by a newbie or not. The product is a far simpler version of awstats and something that gives you up-to-the-second stats and you can monitor more than one site, from any one of your web sites.

I don't understand what you're asking. Awstats has nothing to do with someones newbieness level. It's a matter of clicking on a link that leads you on a page. It's no different than getting into other stats.

Are you suggesting that something like Google Analytics is like *uber 3l33t* stuff?

I think what he is asking is Awstats complicated for Newbies, or do Newbies understand what Awstats is, what it does and how to use it.

Thus is there a market for an easier to use stats product marketed to newbies?

Thanks Getsmartt ... you got that right.

      SORRY GUYS

Really apologize for not being clear in the first place ...

      Here is my question again:

As you all know, to even get to Awstats in the first place, you need to log into your cpanel and go to web stats and then awstats.

Additionally, one would only go to awstats to see activity on your site. The terms like page views, hits, referring URLs, search keywords, search terms, etc can be understood by a person who knows various things about promoting your website, traffic, etc... These terms give you an exact picture of what is going on, on your site.

Anyone who has a website and goes and checks their stats on product like awstats, or analytics ... can be a newbie in Internet Marketing but not a newbie in the web technology itself. (AM I RIGHT?)

So would it be safe to have a product for generating stats, and irrespective of the user's level on Internet Marketing, to label it "A tool that newbies can use"?

        Dear blokh,

Do you refer to a log analyzer (a piece of code that takes the already existent log files and does the statistics) or do you refer to a "tracker", a piece of code used to track the web pages, wherever they are?

If the answer is "log analyzer", I strongly suggest you to google the term(s) and see how many FREE solutions exist, in order to decide if it is a good investment opportunity or not.

If you are looking to develop a "tracker", I can only suggest a word of caution regarding it's usability... External tracking solutions are entirely based on javascripts, which, by the way, can be easily disabled on the user's (visitors) side...

        Success!

I think awstats is a piece of cake to set up an use. Most admin panels support its install with a single click.

I think the part that is not newbie friendly is twofold.

          1) There are lots of customizations you can do - some of which are actually useful. But some don't work depending on the host configuration.

          2) There is a lot of information presented in awstats and a lot of it can be a bit cryptic and difficult to interpret. So definitely it could be presented in a more user friendly manner and/or have section specific clickable help for each section.

My 2c worth as an improver.

As a newbie you just need someone to point out to you that cpanel exists and that there is this thing called awstats. Once you've found it there's nothing to "use" as such - you just read what it says. Of course, you need to learn to interpret. But you can start with the bits you do understand and ignore the rest for later.

A simpler version might be of interest to someone who doesn't have cpanel. Maybe if they could use it on a blog. I use statcounter.

Whilst stats are easily available, in my experience a lot of people (yes, newbies but not always so) are either too afraid of technology etc. or don't have the initiative etc. to find them.

You would be amazed at the number of people who are unaware that the statistics are even available for their web site and are shocked when informed otherwise.

I have also come across people who are spending money on PPC who are unaware of this who want help with their campaigns. When asked "can I see your stats" their reply is "what's this".

I am unsure of the possibilities for a marketable product to bridge this gap but you never know
