Finally Full Time and loving it!

It is truly amazing finally reaching your goals. Finally seeing the fruits of your labor come to fruition. I remember coming to this forum with nothing in my bank account, no knowledge in my head, and absolutely no clue.

I did bring hope, I did bring goals, I did bring a work ethic. It is all I had besides my wife, which was my fiancee at the time. Now I sit hear all most in tears from how blessed I am.

I went from nothing to everything. I went from Losing a Father and helping my wife recover from brain surgery to a successful business owner.

There will come a time when you want to quit, there will come a time when you are so discouraged you are almost in tears.

It is fighting threw those times that makes "Making it" so much more special. It is fighting threw those times that got me were I am today.

When my wife went in for brain surgery I made a promise that I would do all I could to spend as much time with her and my son as I could. When my Father passed at the tender age of 49 I made a promise that I would live every day as if were my last.

I made a goal to quit my Job by Oct 19. my 29th birthday and missed that goal by 10 days. I finally said good bye to my job Oct 29th.

Here is my point.. No matter what happens do not let anything stand in your way. You CAN live your dreams. You CAN build a successful business.

All it takes is a commitment. So commit. I know you can do it. Do you?

  • Congrats Shannon... I still work my old job for insurance reasons and I can't wait to give it the boot. I'm so jealous of you.

    • that is actually one of the reasons why it was so hard to leave the job. My wife is on seizure medication and unfortunately that is not covered in a private policy because of pre-existing conditions.

Well done and congratulations on getting rid of your job.

I can imagine the pain and turmoil you must have gone through. It must have been agonizing especially during the your wifes brain surgery. I hope she made a full and complete recovery.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • One quote I really like to remember is:

"Being an entrepreneur means living a few years like other won't, so that you can live the rest of your life like others can't."

You've certainly been living the "like others won't", so here's to the living "like others can't". Congrats!

  • Congratulations, being your own boss is both rewarding and scary at the same time. I have to say the insurance situation we all face in this great nation is absolutely disgusting. I have the same problems with insurance you have, ie pre-existing conditions.

  • G'day Shannon,

Congratulations. It's an excellent feeling to be free.

You've certainly had your hurdles and things to work through and it seems to have only made you stronger and more determined.

Through IM I was able to spend all my time with my Daughter through her first year. There is nothing that can replace that.

Keep going and I hope folks take away that determination and not giving up are two of the most important facets to being successful.

    Kind Regards,
    Shane

  • Brilliant Post!

Really inspiring and uplifting for everyone.

Wishing you the best of success for the future.

Also, I agree with the point you made about living every day like your last. When I watch Steve Jobs' Graduation Speech it changes my thinking so much towards this perspective.

  • I totally agree, that was an amazing speech!

Unfortunately, for me it was the realization that people do die. My father was the first person to pass that was not extremely old in my life. So, I quickly realized that not everyone lives to be an old-timer.

So, I better take advantage of every single day I have been given. Because tomorrow is not promised.

  • Hey way to go Shannon, that's a great story of hope, you and your wife have been through a lot. I have been through much of the same with a wife hurt in a head on car accident 5 years ago, that changed her life forever, many things she had to re-learn.
All you can do at times is have hope, trust in the Lord, and one day the sun will shine again.....and look at you made it....now the sun is shining for you ... great write up !!...enjoy !!

  • Congratulations Shannon,
You are now living the dream many of us hope for.

Life is short. I have written on my white board, THINK SUSAN

It relates to a friend who suddenly died. THINK SUSAN means to remember that we never know when our time is and to put as much life into every day as we can. THINK SUSAN brings good times to mind also.

So maybe you might say, "THINK DAD" and in addition to loving memories it could remind to to live every day to its fullest
    • [1] reply

    • hey Bob,

It is funny that you bring up the "Think Dad" I actually have a large picture frame with a picture of me and my father on one side and a poem on the other.

My wife made it for me Christmas of last year.

I think we can upload pictures so I will try to do that so you can see it...

Kind of a crappy picture but you get the point.

That hangs directly over my office desk and I look up at it multiple times a day. Whenever I want to quit I just take a look up at that picture. And it gives me hope. It gives me strength. It reminds me that you need to live today like it was your last.

      Regards,

      Shannon
