verify domain in Google webmasters tools, really stuck!

I need to verify my domain, inorder to use the Google Webmasters tools.
I want to use the upload the the HTML file method, but I'm getting some errors,

Can u please tell me on how to upload the HTML file AND verify my domain?

Do I use the ftp client to upload the file?
Do I upload it to the root directory of my Domain?

please help..

    Yes, use an FTP to upload the document to the root directory.

    Else you can copy google analytics code as per instructions in header.php file of your theme.

    Webmasters is also verifying through google analytics

    ps: webmaster Upload file should be uploaded in root directory
