INTERNET MARKETING

Would like some feed back on directory submissions. I am told that they are pretty much worthless. I would like to here what others think of directory submissions. There are many people offering to do thousands of submissions for little money. I am just wondering if anyone thinks it is really worth the money and why? Thank You

I do them but there have been some recent murmurs about Google stating they do not derive much "juice" from them.

My personal beliefs and tests say that the free directories (other than DMOZ) aren't really worth the time. The paid directories do carry some juice.

HI

You can for a directory submitter free or paid and spend 4-5 hours to submit your site to over 500 or more directories... or you can hire a person to do it for you...

If you don't have the time to do it yourself and you only have the one site then you are better off hiring someone to do it for you, but if you have more then a few sites you are better of with a program that will let you submit to the directories as you have time to do so...

yes they are worth submitting to , some directories are better then others and you will get a lot of backlinks that do help your serp rankings... but traffic from directories will be very low...

But you should still use them as part of your seo efforts..

Directory submission is an important part of the link building process offered by many SEOs. Good directories automatically brings in quality backlinks.

Most are worthless because of the fact they use "generic" categories and not the actual sites categories. I just made a post about this very thing on my wso answering this question.. Check out my sig and see my post.

  In my past experience, they don´t really do much in terms of traffic. But I should think they´re very useful as part of the link building strategy.
  
  It´s a lot of work, Iknow and pretty tedious too if you do it all by yourself manually. But in my view, if it doesn´t work in one way or the other, marketers/top "gurus" wouldn´t keep on doing them or recommending them, would they?
  
  Or maybe it´s one of those lies to keep us all amateur newbies in the system?

  I've submitted enmasse to them in the past using automatic directory submission software like DigiXmas but wouldn't do so again.
  
  There are some really rubbish free directories out there and just submitted blindly to them is really dumb as you wouldn't want your website to be associated with them in any way, shape or form.
  
  You're best off trying to find niche directories rather than submitting to anything and everything

DMOZ is definitely worth the submission. The PR8 juice from DMOZ is usually enough to get you to the number one spot in Google for a long tail keyword phrase.

Other directories are also valuable (I usually submit to PR4 and above only) but a lot are worthless and some will actually do more harm then good.

The problem with DMOZ is that there are no guarantees that your submission will be processed, even if you follow the rules.

It depends on the editor of that category and some are better than others.

There are some directories that gives you quality backlinks but there are more directories that are not worth it to submit to.

Submitting to directories is more for SEO than for traffic.

DMOZ editors are worthless. I dont think they approve any listing.

Directory Submission is still one of the methods I employ when it comes to SEO, it is useful in netting some solid backlinks, especially when the site is pretty new. Other than that I don't really go knee deep with directory submissions..

Directory submitting is worth the trial. You can look for more directories than sticking to one and some are really good. But you must understand that traffic through these directories could be slow and low. You may not get the amount you really want to earn and you must also remember that it may take some time for you to pick up and get the amount you plan to. Have patience and I also suggest that instead of you doing it all alone, you can hire somebody else do this for you so that you can concentrate on something else also.

From what I have read, it's paid directories that Google doesn't like now. Same thing as paying for a link basically - and they hate that.

So a potential future problem with free directories is when they get big enough to become paid directories your sites then get penalized. Note that this is pure speculation at this point, but certainly not outside the realm of possibilities.

In my personal opinion, it is worth submitting to article directories for the traffic that they may bring. Additionally, you will be garnering backlinks, which are beneficial in helping you to achieve higher search engine rankings. I would only submit to those that are high quality though, and steer clear of those that are known for spam as that may do more harm than good.
