yet another keyword question

so i was looking for some kind of niche that i can use for a website that i will develop. i dont know its a good idea to tell everyone thats better at this IM thing what it is yet i would PM you tho.

this keyword phrase has 12,000 searches monthly.
when put into google with " " there are 8,000,000 results.
when i do backlink searches basically none of the top sites have any.

is this good.. i am sure this sounds retarded, but if i could out rank the top site i would think i would get decent traffic, i just dont know if these sites are there because they are that good of a site

    For me 8 million sites showing up for a keyword phrase would be a mite too many and I would try to find a related phrase that gives a lot fewer results.

    I tend to go with keywords/phrases that have less than 10,000 results even though the monthly searches are maybe only about 1 to 2,000. These are much easier to get ranked for on Google or the other search engines.
