Exact, that shows the amount of people who EXACTLY search that term and not a variation of that term.

    example: car repairs

    Broad Includes:
green car repairs, funny repairs made on childrens cars, how a clown repairs a sinking car (any phrase with 'car' and 'repairs' in any order)

    [Exact includes]:
    car repairs

    "Phrase includes":
green car repairs, civic car repairs ("car repairs" in that order, anywhere in the phrase)

there is no exact answer to which one you should use.

Exact will be easiest to rank for, phrase second and broad will be hardest to rank for.
Exact will have the least traffic, phrase the second least and broad the most.

So its all relevant to the amount of time you want to put in.

He's quite perfectly explained what each of the terms mean. I agree with most of what you say, but not really when you say exact will be easy to rank for. What do you mean by that? Do you mean broad phrases related to the keyword will be tough to rank for or...?

Thanks, couldn't have asked for a more detailed answer.

In my keyword research, I noticed that the exact keywords had more competition and less "searches" than the broad ones.

Either way, if I shoot for the broad keyword, I'm bound to end up ranked for [exact] and "phrase" too? Or am I completely off target?
