$930 in Amazon affiliate income in Nov. after starting 4 months ago, here is what I’ve done…

I made well over $1,200 in January also. I worked less than one hour per day 5 days per week in January. I love affiliate marketing. The experience over the last few months has given me the confidence I needed.

I've been trying to imagine what could happen if I was able to work 8-10 hours per day for a few months on internet marketing...how much could I be making? Could I double or triple my income if I was able to have greater than 7x the time to focus on my websites?

Well, I'm about to find out...because I quit my job last Friday (February 11) and I'm sitting in my new office ($150/month) for the first time today. I'm excited and scared all at the same time. I'll be hitting it hard over the next few months to see how far I can take this.

The only reason I'm able to quit my job is because my wife and I have been working hard the last few years toward paying off all of our debt...and as of this month we are 100% debt free except for the house (1st mortgage).

I'm going all out for my dreams of working for myself and I won't have any more regrets. I'm also starting a site to help other noobs make money online and I'll be sharing my experiences as I go. All my information will of course be free. > noobstarter.com

Month of December was even better for me. The holidays really cut down on my work time, I probably only got in around 15 hours and that was all broken up during the month. I'm expecting my income to drop over the next few months because I'm taking on 2 larger more generic keyword long term niches...and it's not Christma$ time. I'm also pinching out a few adsense niche blogs per month too.
-I started using textbroker.com a lot and really like them, super fast and the quality is good IMO.

-I launched an adsense site 6 weeks ago and on Dec 30 it hit #1 on google and has been making an average of $3 per day. The reason I'm there is because the competition is not optimized for the keywords and have low pr pages. I have 10 backlinks...searches look like this: 92,300 "keywords", 2,430 allintitle: "keywords". It's an exact match keyword.net It will probably bounce around, but I know it won't take many backlinks to make it stick. Seems a little too easy.

- I've also had the problem lately of finding too many niches I want to own. Looking for niches/keywords is like digging for gold and it's addictive. It's a daily fight for me not to waste time looking for more when I've got plenty of good ones to work on.

I’ve learned a lot from this forum and wanted to share part of my journey over the last four months. I’m open to any advice too.

I realize $930 is not making anyone’s panties wet, but with the limited time I have it’s an ok start. This is from about 7 wordpress sites, however mainly from 1 site that is #1 in google for its keywords, the other 6 sites bounce around in the serps like crazy. Only SEO, no PPC/PPV. I started all the sites in August through early October.

- I don’t claim to be an expert or know any more than you, I’m a noob with 4 months experience learning a lot as I go. I’m simply telling you my experience

- I have a wife and 2 kids under the age of 3

- I have a full time job I can’t stand/hate with a passion (tech support)

- I’ve been getting up at 5-5:30am almost every day so I can squeeze in 45min -1hr of work before my full time job and then I get 1hr of work after my fulltime job if I’m lucky. My wife is not making it easy for me and not interested in letting me work at night.

- I’ve taken off work about 6 days over the last 4 months from my full time job to work on my sites.

I searched for a product that I needed and I happen to find a successful site with a exact match keyword domain for a physical product (productnamekeyword.com), it was in google at #1. I thought I could do the same thing and use this site as a template, so I simply found a very similar product from another company that was launching in 3-4 weeks and I purchased the exact match keyword domain for that new product (productnamekeyword.com). I then check the other successful site’s back links in yahoo site explorer (he had around 300) and posted to the same sites as many as I could over the first few weeks of launching my site. (fYI: I found a lot of them were from forum profiles)

New keywords that didn’t exist 2 months ago obviously have less competition. I was on the first page of google within 1 week and then bounced around in the top 6 for about 2-3 weeks

I posted about 2-3 blog posts per week for the first 4 weeks, each title of the posts keyword optimized and only about a paragraph with a picture or two. I simply went to google and typed in the keywords and hit the space bar and then I wrote down the top 4 keywords that auto generate before you hit enter and search, I used those for my blog post titles. I also used the blog posts that other successful similar product site had as a template.

I made a squidoo page and hub page for my product-name-keyword. My hub page has over 1,400 views and STILL bounces around from the top few spots on page 1 in google to page 2-3, I only posted around 3-5 links to these pages from my other free blog sites I created.

FYI: I’ve also seen other hub pages from other random people for products rank in the top 10 of the serps, the hub pages seem to really rank well for things, especially new keywords.

I sent about 2 articles to ezine and about two other article directories…so I didn’t do much article marketing.

I setup google alerts for my product name and basically rewrote some of the news articles as blog posts on my site.

I made 1 youtube video with animoto.com

I made around 8 blogs on blogger, wordpress.com and similar sites in a link wheel with only 1 or 2 posts and youtube video. I’ve now read lots of mixed reviews about link wheels and I’m still not sure if they help or hurt but I made a small one for this site without any issues.

I searched for blogs in my niche and made around 10 quality comments on blogs with at least pr 1 and above. I used the seo quake firefox plugin to help find high pr blogs. (For some reason I feel like these helped, but that could just be the noob in me talking)

I posted probably 20-30ish social bookmarking posts over the first few weeks only to main $ site.

Submitted my site rss feed to less than 10 rss feed sites.

I mainly focused all of my effort on this one site for the first 3 or so weeks.

NO amazon widgets, only text links in the body and of course link EVERY picture to amazon.

I focused on 2 main keywords 90% of the time with 2 others about 10-15% of the time.

I haven’t added more than 10 back links in the last month. (I should and will add more soon) and my site has been rock solid #1 for at least the last 6-8 weeks

It’s a tech product

Traffic has ranged over the last 2-3 months from 300 – 600 uniques per day (google keyword tool shows1,900 per month exact match)

Product cost on amazon is from $0.50 - $30

I sell 15-55 products per day from this site, average is around 30ish

I always get to the 7.5-8% commission rate each month, however some of the products are under the electronics category in amazon and max out at a whopping 4% commission.

I make half of the money from OTHER products people buy at amazon when they’re buying one from my site.

I rewrite about 90% of the amazon text and put in my own 2 cents.

The site is laid out like a grid online store (a rough example: bustedtees.com) with blog posts at the bottom

These are more generic long term keyword sites (example: “car seats”) rather than a short lived product specific site.

3 are laid out in a grid store, 3 are like a regular blog with a basic free template.

These 6 sites (each a separate niche) I started in sept/oct have been getting kicked square in the nuts by google, they will get to their top position in google which range from 1 to 5 for a couple/four days and then get kicked down to pages 5-10+ for about a week. I’m guessing they might be labeled “thin affiliate sites”. I’ve been trying to figure out what my noob ass has done differently and here are a few things that I think might be the issue:

- I posted amazon affiliate links as soon as the sites started on all 6. My example site above in #1 didn’t have any affiliate links until about 3-4 weeks after it launched.

- All but one has less original content then the #1 site in my example above.

- They all have less amount of back links, especially high pr back links.

- I only targeted 1 keyword with my anchor text to the home page.

- My backlinking was not as consistent because I was working on too many sites with the little time I have

- 3 were interlinked in the footer…I removed these a few weeks ago



// An experiment with blog-blueprint.com and a Christmas toy site

I tested out blog-blueprint.com for 1 month in late September. I found a hot Christmas toy I thought would be a big seller (I was right), Christmastoynamehq.com I setup a simple blog and posted some unique content about the toy that was probably about 10 posts with 1 to 2 paragraphs with lots of great pictures. I did around 20 social bookmarkings, setup 8 or so free blogger type sites in a link wheel, made about 4 youtube videos, a squidoo and hubpage (both made it to the top1-2 pages of serps) around 15 forum profiles and pounded it with short articles from blog-blueprint.com.

My site was on the the front page of google within 10-14 days and slowly rose to #4-5 for about 10 days in early October and I wanted to crush my competition so I continued with blog-blueprint.com….and then in mid October my site dropped and didn’t show up at all in the serps. I thought to myself oh ha ha, that ole google dance got me, oh geez it will be back up in just a few days, that’s what all the pros say. I kept building links with blog blueprint until late October and hitting it with a handful of social bookmarks and forum profiles…it’s now December 5th…my site popup up at the #2 position for 2 days on November 15 &16 for the main keyword and lots of related keywords and has not been back seen since. I made $95 from the site in those two days (165ish visitors each day). I guess I tripped a “google filter”.

Sure I’ve cried a little, but I learned a lot from this because I’ve been watching my competition….the top 10 in google all used article marketing and blasted out shoty articles to all the directories. Some of them had the articles written for them because I saw their ads on elance.com.

FYI: The #1 result for this keyword is currently and has been since September…a freaking hubpages.com/toyname, this page has not moved 1 spot since September. (They used lots of videos and articles as backlinks to the hubpage)

  • Thanks so much for the inspiring post. I've done something similar, only with 1 site and it's all targeting popular Christmas toys (it's a generic site name). I made about $7.00 last month from Amazon (better than the $0.40 I made the month before that). I'm seeing about 30 uniques per day. I started the site in mid-November and am posting about a 500 word review of a different toy each day. I then re-write that 500 word review and submit it to EZA. Once published on EZA I published the same exact article on GoArticles and Associated Content (seeing a decent amount of traffic from Associated Content). I than take that same article and publish it on free-press-release.com for $1.00 per article. I ping the site every week or so.

    I'm slowly getting there. I'd like to top out December with a whopping $50 in sales, but we'll see. I got started way to late to really make any good money this Christmas. But, it's a learning curve and I hope to use what I learn this year and really bust it for next year!

    This is pretty much what I've been doing as well. I'm also a newb and just published my first few sites within the last month.

    I was very excited last week to see 7 sales in Amazon, even though I didn't make much money. It's very easy to bump your commission up above 4% for non-electronics. I have 3 or 4 sites that are pretty much completed. I have about 6 more that will be finished in the next week. I want to eventually have over 100 sites.

    This site has taught me so much over the last few months it's unreal.

  • Here's a handy tip...

    You've been building sites hoping they have what it takes to stick. To remove the hit and miss and the cost of testing put up a Hubpage and do some very minimal and quick linking (say maybe 5 bookmarking links).

    Then wait 1 week and see.

    Spend 1 week making as many hubpages for different keywords that you can for keywords you think you can rank for. This is cheap, quick and easy. Don't worry about making the hubpages great, just use them to test demand.

    After 1-3 weeks, check back and see which hubpages rank, and which hubpages don't, and which ones are getting traffic. Now you know EXACTLY what niches are the easy picking and you can invest in those niches first.

    Simples

    This saves you the cost of countless domain names testing different niches, and also saves you lots of link building when the niche might just be too competitive.

    Also also those hubpages paid you through up are in your control and you can earn a little from them, and also link to other relevant pages helping you send visitors and SE juice to where you want it.

    • Great advice! However, why not make it easier? Instead of writing a bunch of hubpages, etc; why not just find hubpages that are ALREADY ranking in google? Then just target those keywords. Whoops, just gave up one of my secrets!

      Actually, your advice is excellent if you want to test out keywords that you are struggling to determine the competition level for. I just wanted to point out that you can find lots of keywords that already have hubpages ranking that you can quickly outrank.

  • As a very green newbie, this was amazingly encouraging. I'm in the process now of trying to learn how to do this. As mentioned, this is a well layed out post that does show some of the process of getting it setup and working. However for those of us that the whole world of IM is new to us, it's rather daunting and confusing. I'm going to use your post as a great reference document to study each part and learn what it means and how to do it.

    If I was able to find $900 a month extra each month, that would make a world of difference for us. I'd be happy to have an extra $2-300 a month. <grin>

  • I remember those days. I remember making about $30 one month in IM when I had just started. Me and my wife were discussing our finances which were very tight at the time. I mentioned something along the lines of needing to spend more time on IM to increase what I was making. With exasperation she nearly shouted, "What the heck can we do with $30, we can't pay the mortgage with it?" Shortly after that IM started paying the mortgage.

    Now she loves IM. I am home way more. I do more housework, watch the kids when she goes shopping, cook a few meals every week, and we just plain spend more time together. Now we talk about cutting back on time that we waste so that I can spend more time with IM.

    My wife shops a lot, but she is very frugal. We both still watch what we spend very close. She usually pays the bills, and I keep track of where our money is. We also normally have money in the bank these days. Somehow we always have enough money to waste on clothes for her or toys for me.

  • Dude - you have found a model that WORKS, congratulations!

    I think that what you said up front is the most important stuff. Specifically, you hate your day job and your wife is making it hard to work on this gig on the side.

    Here's what you need to do:
    1) Hire someone to help you FULL TIME. Philippines is a great way to go. You are clearly making enough money to justify this and it is the only way to grow. You can focus on niche selection and "architecture" of your sites while you have a helper to write reviews, or at least format them and publish them if you write them. Plus he/she can handle all your backlinking / SEO stuff.

    2) Discuss this with your wife to get an agreement on what is acceptable. She needs to understand how you feel about your day job and you need to agree on time together vs time on your business.

    Outsourcing is your ONLY way to get more time and make more money.

  • Well I have reservations about using brand names and trademarked product names.

    Do you use any such names in your domains or generic product names?

    There is the risk of getting sued and/or losing your domain if you use trademarked product names.

    • I don't think you can get sued. But I do think the copyright owner can come after you to take control of the domain.

      I'd be interested to hear from anyone with more legal expertise. Are people taking any LEGAL risk in buying a domain with a copyrighted phrase like "nuvi"? Or is it simply BUSINESS risk. There is a huge difference, especially with technology products that fade away fast.

    • This is something that you definitely must consider. You are risking the chance of receiving the good ol' "cease and desist" letter from the company.

      Personally I would avoid picking up a domain with a trademarked product name in it...

    You did a lot of hard work to get there - getting up early and working after your day job - those things are not easy to do and I imagine a lot of people fail because they dont want to give up that free time. Kudos to you for taking action and getting it done!

    I hope your wife will be on board with your IM efforts after she see's that big paycheck from Amazon

  • Thanks for the info here. I am a noob and I am into Amazon products as well. I started barely a month in Amazon and I already got sale. I used the product name as my keyword and in my domain name. I got my site at the first page with 2 keywords while in the most competitive keyword, I am sitting at no. 12. I am doing a lot of backlinking the past few days in the hope of pushing it the first page. Post like this serves as my inspiration.

    On the other hand, I tried promoting those products from gurus and I never made a single centavo because it's too competitive. It's only in Amazon that I find hope to make my IM journey a success.

      I really think you should invest some of your profits into an outsource.
      cost about $200 per month, maybe you can even work the price down.
      I have a lead on a good, trustworthy, company in the Philippines.

      I have created a bunch of Photo Shop pictures linked to SOME of my Amazon Product blogs.

      I am only up to about $400 per mth. Started last April so, about 8 mths ago
      and have about 130+/- WP blogs up and working. I, not my outsourcer ;-), add average4/5 blogs a week.
      I can put one up in about 45 minutes, Cookie Cutter type building. Been slacking off lately.. I am headed now to work the 'Face Book' method!!

      I have been directing my energy, and time ;-) going at this by a different method.
      choose Amazon 'product' to work, either general or specific product ..
      Key word research, under 50 results, "All in Title", "search", 1500-6000+/- per mth.
      No back links, articles etc.., just Amazon product dripped fed by a SPECIAL WP Plug in.

      Started with .coms, then tried some .nets and come to find .info get ranked quickly on first
      Google Page but, mostly only when searched with the complete www [key words addy], key words no spaces.
      Some get indexed some do not, Index means, on the first 2 pages of Google. pg3,4,5,6,7,8 don't count. Nobody is going to go there.
      Done some Free mass search engine submits as well.
      Can't tell where the purchases come from, some of the products sold, I do not even have on any of my sites.
      Must be the Amazon Up-Sell on product pages.

      Anyway going to digest how you're working this!!! cause $300pm don't make it!! .......

Second, I also have a wife that makes my "side businesses" difficult, several times she has stopped speaking to me because I was working on the computer for four or five hours straight. I just let her be mad, she will get over it, and when I can bring both of us home full time, she will not even be bothered by 6 hours a day in my office. Lastly, how do you search for a product prelaunch? Seems like a good system to set up, just curious how I could replicate(without competing of course)

  • Great job there, and thanks for sharing all the intricate details about how you got to this point. I think it's really admirable that you have managed to do this even with an unappreciative/demanding wife and only being able to put in 1-2 hours per day at most!

    This just goes to show that when you want something badly enough, you'll find a way to do it somehow. To all the people complaining about not having enough time or motivation or money, this is a classic case study that will obliterate all your excuses. With only 1-2 hours per day and just using free traffic, Eyetrap was able to get to $900+ per month in only 4 months, and he only has 7 sites!

    You did mention though that you hate your job with a passion, and this is what is really driving you to ultimate success with this internet venture of yours. You did not complain or falter when your first 6 sites didn't really go anywhere, and it looks like you have finally struck some gold with your 7th site! Most newbies would have given up after not seeing results with the first 1 or 2 sites, but you persevered and worked through it.

    Now that you've discovered the power of exact match keyword domains, you should definitely start looking for additional ones to build more sites with. Follow the same formula that gave you results with your seventh site. I'd also recommend targeting products that are a little higher in price since amazon's commission rates are so low, and ideally you'd want to select products at the $100 price point or higher.

    Just regarding keyword domain names, the nuvi example is a good one - Garmin do NOT chase these, I know because there is some dude or dudette out there churning out minisites for every product Garmin ever release, just Google any Garmin product name!

    And here is another little trick - I am really not telling you what to do with this information, so you're on your own! - but you can do a search here: Chilling Effects Clearinghouse: Search the Database to see which companies habitually send out cease and desist notices. For example, select:

    SENDER contains Garmin

    and you get no results.

    Try

    SENDER contains Sony

    ...and you'll see what I mean

      I've always been warned not to buy trademarked domains or exact product domain names yet this is clearly being done by many people and the database provided by Markowe was very interesting.

      Does anyone one actually know if there's a blanket rule on this? or any links to other discussions on it.

  • Be very VERY careful as once you register domains that contains trademarks or product or brand names, once you do, you put yourself on thin ice.

    Just because you might see others putting up domains with trademarked names, it doesn't make it legal to do the same.

    Obviously exact match domains with tradmarked terms will rank fast but the tradeoff is the possibility of getting some nasty c&d letters (and phone calls) from corporate attorneys. I've talked to others who have been on the receiving end of those contacts...Not fun!

    Then again, you may never run into any sort of legal snafu! Just be prepared!

    • I agree with Michael here. I would hate to spend months getting my site to rank nice and high on the serps only to find that my domain has to be shut down for trademark reasons. Not saying this will happen but why risk it?

    You said, that you concentrated on 2 main keywords,
    were they longtail ones or shorter, approximately how many searches globally/locally ( along Google keyword tool) and did you use brand name keywords?

    Did the keywords include the product benefit?

    How did you researched the competition?

  • I fail to see the problem with brand names.

    If you have a brand name if your domain, presumably you are trying to sell that product for affiliate commission. Take for example I own a multi-million dollar company called Hoodyy (I don't)

    If I saw a website called BUYHOODYY.COM or HOODYYREVIEWS.COM or similar and checked them out and they were PROMOTING my products, would I try and shut that Domain down?

    NO!

    Of course I bloody wouldn't. It's nonsensical. My advice is to get brand names in your domains, but only if you are planning on promoting their products. Perhaps some companies such as Sony take a different approach to this. But I think the majority of companies will let it slide..

    • I'm very new to IM, but kind of with Hoody on this and wondering that if one approaches this in a certain way, the risk may still be there, but is not necessarily a big deal.

      For example, if you did your research in the C&D database and found that no C&D's were submitted by a company who's products you're going to sell, then that is one less thing to worry about.

      And then if they do send you a C&D, (probably many months later) then I guess you have to take your site down. Big deal. Some products have a short shelf life anyway, so perhaps you get in and get out, one way or the other regardless, but hopefully you've cashed in.

I have also noticed that Amazon can be quite slow to start off with but playing around with the ads on the page to suite the niche made a huge difference for me. If you are only using text links,thats a pretty amazing conversion rate. People usually tend to favour EPN but I have made some great money with Amazon.     • Dude, sounds like you are a little bit overwhelmed and need to take a step back from all this. It's a normal reaction for anyone coming into Internet marketing for the first time. I am sure other people can point you in the right direction, but since you say you don't exactly have any money to invest, my advice is DON'T SPEND ANY - no matter the tempting offer you see around the Internet, for products promising to make you rich overnight (even if they are good products). The information you are after is all FREE out there somewhere - how to start with a site, how Wordpress works etc. Just hang loose a bit and spend a little time reading this forum, but don't get overwhelmed by all the moneymaking schemes people are involved in, just look at the general thread of discussion. One of those threads is CERTAINLY about how to use Wordpress etc. so go find some free tutorials and explanations about Wordpress. It's NOT rocket science, or we are all rocket scientists here I will let others contribute, but would just add, if you are a little desperate, then check out this thread: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...desperate.html - don't worry, no-one will try to sell you anything, just try to absorb some of what basic, grass-roots internet marketing is all about before you get into anything more advanced. It's a lot less technical, and difficult than you think..!
    • If you don't have any money to even buy a sandwich, I'd suggest keeping your credit card FAR away from your computer! Do not, under any circumstances, go looking for the latest magic pill that will instantly make you rich overnight.

      There are many free methods which you can employ, and if you're starting out I think it's best you build that work ethic by offering IM services of some kind. Offering article writing services is one of the easiest free ways of getting started, in my opinion. While you may not be able to do that here (listing fee is $20), you could put up a free listing at Digital Point, where you should be able to earn at least $100 or so very quickly if you put some effort into it. Reinvest some of that into War Room membership and list your writing services here.

      I have seen your post, and I know that you can write reasonably well. There is absolutely no reason why you couldn't offer article writing services here and elsewhere, so try to keep that internal objection at bay. (I find that to be the norm with many newbies who are merely looking for the easy way out.)

    • Fantastic post, very inspiring. I'm in a very similar position and it's very reassuring to see someone tasting some success.

      One of the biggest messages coming across on this forum is that if you find a formula that works for you then just repeat it.

      You've got most of your income coming from one site so the next step would be to reproduce these same efforts on another site.

      If you can run 2 sites in your spare time, you can run 20 sites full time, if you can run 20 sites by yourself you can run 50 sites with outsourcing.

    • I'm on track for $800-$1,000 this month (December) too and I fully expect the sales to drop ~50% in January. However, I've managed to pinch out several new sites, started outsourcing and found a larger niche to focus on.

      I think the key is that I know what it takes to find nice keywords and rank a site. Now it's just a matter of applying what I've learned and of course a lot of hard work.

    • Annette, you're definitely on the right track there. Be patient and wait for your sites to mature and attract more traffic. Amazon sites are basically a numbers game, and the more you build, the more you'll ultimately earn - some sites will earn more and some will earn less, so the key is not to focus too much on the individual earnings of each site. Look at things from a more holistic point of view and you'll be fine.

  • Dude, this thread is really inspirational, I have just embarked on a amazon journey myself. I started early this year and have 2 sites online.

    I decided to build 1 site pr week. I have a system that allows me to work with other IM related stuff during the week, I like the idea of having multiple streams of income.

    I am outsourcing backlinking and the product reviews, the rest I do manually.

    What I like about building amazon sites is that it doesn't require any technical skills or coding, and it's really easy to manage, set and forget.

    So, basically, once you get the hang of it, it becomes a part of what I like to call "the daily grind".

    I noticed that you mention your price range was up to $30....Have you considered looking at higher price points? Say, $80 and up?
  • High 5! You know I see posts where people downplay their earnings that are not in the thousands and you know what? I think it's encouraging to read about making a few hundred a month just as much as making a few thousand a month. Many newbies would be thrilled to earn $200 or $500 a month.

    I was extatic when I earned my first sale on my first affiliate site.

    Thanks for sharing, I think this is very inspiring and will help many people get motivated to jump in and try it.

  • Okay. Please let me add my "2 cents". Clickbank already tells you what products are selling (with their gravity score). Just grab a few with a score of at least 100 and include them on your site. Since they cover a lot of niches something is bound to fit.

    To the OP: Congrats. That's called hard work and dedication.

    You can also try to do tests on some non-amazon products which pay higher, and see if you can't make some more money from this. Though in my experience one reason Amazon affiliate sites have decent conversions (albeit at a low commission) is because just about the entire Internet trusts Amazon and don't mind pulling out their credit card while they're on it. It's not like that with 'other' sites such as Clickbank, even though everyone uses the same SSL technology. :rolleyes:

    • This is true, the money that you generate via Amazon-based sites won't be fast or a large sum, at least initially, but the appeal is that you're setting them up to generate passive income for a long time to come.

    • I'm not sure about blog blueprint. Something made some of my sites bounce around in the SERPS like crazy and those sites just in the last week (mid Jan.) started to settle down and are back in the top few spots on Google. The only thing I did different with these sites is I sent links to them from blog blueprint.

      Also, none of the back links are showing any longer in yahoo explorer from any of the blog blueprint sites.

      Personally I'm not going to use blog blueprint again and I'm focusing on somewhat higher quality links from article directories, quality blog posts, youtube videos, free blog sites and forum profiles.

    Can anyone else comment on the thought of NOT putting up any affiliate links for the first 3-4 weeks of the website's existence?

    I never heard this before, but for some reason that one line stuck with me. That one major difference is Eyetrap did not put up any affiliate links on his #1 money site the first month. Just posted good content, and built backlinks.

    I wonder if there's any advantage with search engines to rank a site higher that doesn't have a bunch of affiliate links in the beginning. Maybe Google et. al. sees that as more "legitimate" blog of good content when there isn't a bunch of "buy-me-please" affiliate links all over the site.

    I'm in the middle of building out two new websites, so this could be a good test to see how it works out. Then once it starts getting more organic traffic, slowly start adding very relevant aff links to make money.

    • I have always followed the rule, never put affiliate links on a web page until that page is indexed.

      Remember google ranks pages and not sites, so not putting up any affiliate links site wide won't make a difference, when google first visits the page make sure its full of relevant and unique content, once its actually indexed (make sure its indexed and not just crawled) insert your affiliate links.

    • I've actually found that you can still get indexed right away after putting in your affiliate links. What really accelerates the process is using Google Analytics and Google Webmaster which will get your site acknowledged and indexed by Google.

    • Amazon sites can be very profitable, and work well in providing an additional income stream that is pretty much passive once set up. In addition to that, a lot of the work is easily outsourced, so it can be scaled up very easily.

  • Am I the only one thinking that creating a more generic website focusing on a certain niche is better than going after micro niches?

    I personally would rather create a website on "Lawn mowers" instead of "Cordless lawn mowers". This shouldn't affect the SEO process if you target product names as your keywords on different pages of your site. However, doing this will create a website with authority that will help the rankings of new products that you will be adding to the site.

    I don't know, but creating a micro niche website that has no growth potential seems like a waist of backlinks to me.
