These sites, dependent on the site, typically have high search engine authority that has been established and developed the by collective effort of a massive userbase. Some people shun them because they aren't actually your OWN website. Based on my own experiences, I believe that they have a very viable and valuable role in an overall online marketing strategy.

Is there any particular site that you would like to know more about, seoforgoogle? I have done some very extensive research into Web 2.0 properties.

Check out a list of some web 2.0 sites here:

Top 15 Most Popular Web 2.0 Websites

Linking from them back (backlinking) can help your site do well in page rank.

Visit the SEO Discussion sub-forum of this WF to learn more about developing web 2.0 properties.

You can use the Search button to find whatever you want to find here about web 2.0 sites in relation to SEO. Just type "web 2.0 sites" in the search bar.

    Just my contribution.

In a recent video, Cutts said they are NOW using social validation (2.0 sites) for one of the 200-500 factors in their algorithm. He also says:

...we're also trying to figure out a little bit about the reputation of an author or creator on Twitter or Facebook...

Which means what? Will having an author, Tweeter or Facebook user also have not-for-profit, 'public service' or 'charity' web sites increase rep? (Real ones, not free memberships to 'make money at home' sites that sell back-end products). Or will having a 4 (or better) digit Alexa ranking site be enough? In other words, con more people and get a good Google rep? Or do they have a way to determine REAL social value that a user brings to the net? All this part of the equation does is increase the idiocy of social validation. Clowns!

I, personally, do NOT believe ANYTHING that man says. (Except where in one video he stated part of his job description was to 'mis-lead' the public.)

Anyone that did not see social validation as a factor in 2009, was just not paying attention, (in my mind), or was in so much denial, (who wants all their hard work be for nought every 6 months to a year?) they ignored the obvious. So yeah, guess I believe this is more of a 'coming clean' video than any shift in algorithm video.

    My opinion at least

Yes, there are different shades of humans, robots and so on.

And there are different kinds of baby clothes, baby scrubs right there in our cyberspace too.

Maybe we need to clean up the space so we can have some fresh air and breathing space.
