Unsubscribing From List = More Spam

Ever end up on a mailing list of some large business and when you go unsubscribe it says it takes 7-10 days or whatever until you are completely removed from the list.

During those 7-10 days you are nailed with a TON of email from them.

I went from getting 1 a week maybe to 20 a day of various offers. I really don't know how they can get away with someone saying DONT EMAIL ME anymore but then again spam the crap out of them for the next week.

I've never read the laws on this just assuming they are following them.

    Well Email spam is still OK, when you consider the Calls and SMSes we receive from our Mobile Telecom operators in India. After you add your number to the exclude list, the spamming starts again after a few months.

    Sadly there is no way out of either one unless some pretty stringent regulations are passed by the government(s).

    That's why whenver I join a list of somone I don't know,
    I always use a UNIQUE e-mail address. I set-up a unique,
    forwarding e-mail address to my main e-mail address.

    That way, if they don't honor the unsubscribe request,
    continue spamming or sell my e-mail address I can kill
    the unique e-mail address at my end.

    Aaron, one thing to keep in mind is that, for many of these companies, list rental is a major profit center. When you opt out, some companies will take advantage of the law and use the time lag to get as much out of your address as they can.

    And because most of these large companies use third-party mailing services, the law allows for a "reasonable" lag time to remove you email from their active list.

    It can be a pain, I usually read the first few mails and see what people are writing about, if I like, I stay, if not unsubscribe, but some marketers I like so I stay, even though about half their emails are pitches for crappy products, it seems the best marketers today pitch crappy stuff. Actually it says alot (in good or bad light) about them ...

      I use Gmail a lot to sign up for lists and if I get into a situation like this, or some other thing in which I have to jump through a bunch of hoops to unsub or I get redirected to sales page from the unsub page, I set up a filter in my account and the email then goes right into the trash.

      Other email services may offer this, I don't know that, but it sure is a simple thing to do in Gmail.

      So that way they can send you all the amil they want but you never see it.

    And so do those Opt-Out junk-MAIL services. Yes, snail-mail.

    I did that because I hate junkmail in my postal box. Guess what? I now get almost twice as much junkmail.

    I agree - there are very very few that I even bother to read now - some of them even after un-subbing they continue to spam you - those people lose my respect very fast

    I can count on 1 hand the amount of people that send real value in their emails and hey guess what? They are the very people who's emails I will read religiously

    Its also funny the amount of guys who you might have some respect for but lose because they cut and paste the very same info product hype that 10 other guys are shilling that week at least make the effort to put your own unique spin on it

    On one of my mailing lists I don't even bother to sell anymore I just share valuable information to my readers.

    Research is my biggest thing I love doing and I have SO many domains names along with unlimited email accounts I can have for each one.

    So before I opt-in for any offer, I always create an email account, with the name of the particular program as the email account name, on one of my domains and use it for that particular opt-in. This allows me to just delete the account if it starts getting abused but also it allows me to analyze there autoresponder message schedule, what offers their promoting and basically just how there running the list campaign.

    You come across some good ideas doing this. Especially from the experienced well known marketers.
