How to Make $1000/Month with Article Marketing for FREE...
Did somebody mention a thread containing all the information you need to know about Article Marketing?
Well, here's something to start it.
One of the best things I like about article marketing is that anyone can write a simple article for almost any niche and start their career in Internet Marketing without spending a single cent. More so, when it comes to Article Marketing you have the ability to quickly change from one niche to another in the case where you might not hit a winner straight away but on one of the projects you do start making money in, you'll have the potential to earn money for a long time.
It's most likely that you've heard one of the following phrases or questions once before. "What's a good way to make money without spending money?" or "I can't believe I just received a commission on an article I wrote 3 months ago!"
I've heard variations of these so many times.
It's funny though, when I first thought about simply writing articles promoting a product wouldn't be the answer to the question or above, or that writing a few articles a day let alone in an hour that would make money for an extended period of time was
- Impossible
- Not worth my time
Obviously, after giving it ago I found that it was quite easy and was definitely worth my time. Why? Consider the point I mentioned above. 1 article on a popular directory can hold rankings in major search engines with almost no work and can earn great commissions or sales for months on end.
Best of all,
It can be done for FREE. You don't have to pay for hosting, and countless .com domain names, it is really just writing correctly set out articles in the right niche.
Regardless of your skill, you can send your article to the top of the rankings just by doing things right, all you really need is the "know-how" of what it takes to get an article to the top of search engine as well as knowing what converts.
Which brings me back to the first point I mentioned, that many people often ask "what's the best way to make money without spending money?", and I'm always surprised when people reply by saying "write articles...for others". Here you might make $5 or $6 quickly, but wouldn't you rather earn a passive/recurring income from these articles instead? Article Marketing is probably one of the truest Set and Forget Systems
How set and forget?
I started a new campaign in a new niche on by writing articles and submitting them in Ezine Articles. After writing 18 articles over a few days they've resulted in over 90,000 views over several months without any linking and promotion whatsoever.
These are some the things you want to consider when it comes to article marketing:
- Title Selection
Title selection is probably the most important part of your article. While a good optimized title will provide you with one of the largest boosts in terms of SEO benefits i.e. your title should include the keyword you want to rank for, but it will also be a huge factor when it comes to "hooking" in people.
Before I began trying to do article/bum marketing I did a bit of research on copywriting, because what we are really attempting to do is to presell our readers into purchasing a product.
So what I would recommend is reading some of the threads in the Copywriting section of this forum as there are a variety of ways when it comes to writing a killer title or try and find a copy of some of Ted Nicholas' work or something done by Yanik Silver but there is tones of info on this stuff out there, so find someone's work that you like to read, and read about what they have to say about copywriting, or just head over to the copywriting section of this forum.
- Competition
One of the things you must consider when it comes to article marketing is the strength/number of competition you have. The beauty of article marketing is that you'll be submitting your articles to already high ranking directories, which instantly provides your article with some authority. I've had several articles and hubs which are able to gain #1 spots with no back linking whatsoever; all I did was submit it to a directory and a few days later, bamm! I'm on page #1 for a keyword with 350,000 competing pages.
- Google Keyword Tool
Ok, so this is a funny thing. Many people spend a while searching for the right keyword. Now, this can be done, but what we are looking for is a quick commission not some huge authority site that we are planning on building. So that's why I DON'T always write my articles based on a keyword which looks good in Google Keyword tool. Some of my article have ZERO monthly searches, but still get 100 or so targeted visitors a month and a sale or two. Surprising? However, if you manage to stumble across a keyword that you found in the keyword tool which has some monthly searches and low competition, then I would prioritize this.
So really Article marketing for me, is about a great title, competing pages, but monthly searches is a bonus. Ultimately I think it comes down more to competition than it does searches, as ranking #1 for a low competition term with low searches is better than not ranking for high search volume.
FORMAT OF THE ARTICLE
Without a great title, your article/ format of the article is really redundant. So make sure you have a good title before you even consider writing an article (or right it but don't submit it anywhere till you have a good title).
The format of the article is really up to you.
However, formatting your article in some ways, will allow you to write quicker and produce better and higher converting articles.
Besides titles, I would highly recommend that you do nail down some format which you can easily stick to which allows you to pump out articles in 15 minutes, this can be things like, telling a story, "5-10 Benefits" or a series of Questions and Answers.
For those of you who would rather just "wing it" and write an article, all you need to do is go to the landing page of the product you are trying to achieve the commission for and, rewrite it from scratch, or by drawing on the main benefits the product is emphasizing. However, the main drawback of this is you can probably write 1 or two articles of this style per product, but if that's the direction you want to go in, then do it.
So, right now here is where you are going;
- A Good Catchy Title
- Low Competition
- Be able to write an article in 15minutes
Again, trust me in saying when you get the format of article writing right (with a killer headline of course), the articles you pump out in 15minutes will be long time earners.
With this, you really shouldn't be struggling to write about anything, even if its in a topic you haven't really heard much about (not ideal but can be done) because seeing what the product is claiming to deliver or reading an article on a similar topic, will be enough for research.
If you are really stuck, then try and find an article/ plr article on the same subject, open it in word, and then in between two paragraphs start writing the first paragraph in your own words and then just go from there and only refer back to the article if you get stuck.
From my personal experience Unique content will always win. I once wrote an article for a small niche, it was around 500 words and was absolutely unique. I received some decent traffic and commissions just from submitting the article and a month later I thought I should try and add more to this niche but I didn't really know what else to write on (again small niche and I had limited knowledge of the niche), so I searched the internet for content and plr articles and came out with some pretty standard stuff, and ultimately a poor article that probably just passed the sites guidelines by the skin of its teeth. Since then this articles performance has been abysmal and when I look back at it now, the time I spent trying to find small bits of content that would work well together was probably the same amount of time I now spend writing unique articles that actually perform (but these can be based of PLR content/just don't always copy and paste).
It's really that simple, when it comes to writing an article.
- Catchy Headline
- Low Competition
- Done in 15minutes
- (And try and make it Unique)
Now one thing you must remember is having a good resource box where you are able to establish yourself as an authority on the subject as well as reaffirm your call to action.
With the resource box you'll be needing to check each sites Terms Of Use for what you can/can't include in a resource box. The main thing you'll usually come across is if your allowed to have affiliate links in your articles, in most cases you can't. That's why I usually purchase a .info domain name for a dollar or two and mask my affiliate link.
ARTICLE SUBMISSION
So, hopefully you have learned how to format your articles to be able to pump them out in 15minutes or so (they only have to be around 400words as well).
The next step is obviously, submitting your articles. Honestly, I don't really have to walk your hand through this step, because I don't think it's that hard. Find a top directory that has some decent terms regarding to outbound links in both the article and resource box. These Page Ranked Article Directories are sites like
EzineArticles (My Favourite), GoArticles, ArticleBase etc etc
Now, there are really two routes you could be going on.
- Putting all your Eggs in One Basket
- Spreading out the load
Now, I have used both and to be honest, for me it doesn't really matter which directory you want to submit to. The reason being, the level of competition should be low enough for you to rank easily for the keyword regardless of which directory you want to publish it on.
However, if you choose to spread out the articles on different networks (and they are on the same niche), then if you happen to miss out on ranking in the top few spots for the keyword, then some simple interlinking between the articles may just be enough to push your rankings up.
Another advantage of spreading your articles out is you are covering your tracks in the slight chance that for some reason if the sites TOS changes or they go down, then you won't lose everything. However, I tend to look at that with less popular directories as opposed to the larger ones.
One thing to keep in mind is if you think you'll be hitting the top end of page 1 every time, then it doesn't really matter when it comes to needing to have links between the articles.
One other thing to consider is things like revenue sharing. If when you are just starting out and you are lacking your abilities to presell or direct traffic, then you might want to consider publishing an article on sites to the like of Hubpages in order to try and earn some money through AdSense (please note that they often restrict the number of links that can be placed in an article). However, this is definitely something to consider.
If you want to take it one step further, consider the category you'll be posting your article in.
Here you want to look at how many articles you'll be competing with in the category. For example, a main directory will have more articles in it than a sub directory.
Therefore you'll be able to be a more competitive author with more articles seen in the smaller sub categories gaining you more exposure in your selected niche.
So while the actual article should take your focus, thinking about dominating a niche in a sub category of a directory should also bring good benefits to your campaign.
SUMMARY
Remember, almost ANYONE can make some money with article marketing, as I've explained article marketing comes down to a few things and this will often determine the future success of the articles
- A Good Catchy Title (with Keyword)
- Low Competition
- Be able to write an article in 15minutes
- Simple Submission
Probably the most important factors out of these would be the title and time it takes to write an article.
I'm not going to lie and say every article I've written has been a winner. But what I will say is "at least I spent about 15minutes working on it".
For those articles that don't perform, move on to another niche/product or style, because really article marketing is a numbers game. The more you take action and write, the more you will learn (from both the performers and non-performers) what it takes to make some money in article marketing.
Once you have found your winning formula however, that's when you can really start trying to replicate the process and earn some money for months or even years to come.
The benefits of Writing Articles Quickly
While I have outlined the major indicators I look at in trying to make money by writing articles/ article marketing, I really can't stress enough the benefits of being able to write quickly.
When it comes to writing an article you are really trying to draw attention to your resource box. Where by the more articles you have in circulation the more exposure you'll be able to receive from these boxes and even your directory profile where you can be driving even more traffic to your product.
With writing quicker and maybe shorter articles will allow you to receive the benefits of having done the work. Long winded posts on article directories will often end up benefiting the owner of the directory more than you, because they are staying on their site longer.
So Good Luck,
I hope you enjoy some success with the knowledge you have just gained. Currently, the only thing stopping you is you! Not money, it's free. Not having a method/knowledge, it's here. All you have to do is Take Action! Just being able to write 2 articles a day (that's only 30minutes of your time) and you could be seeing 3, 4 or even 5 figure results from Article Marketing.
