WSO "Stealing"

I have now run two WSO's and both times I have had someone that got my product without paying for it. In both situations they paid with Paypal's echeck, and 3 days later I get a notice from Paypal saying the payment was declined due to insufficient funds. The problem is that I set up my WSO's so as soon as payment is submitted Paypal redirects the buyers to the download page.

I know the solution is to manually send out download links, but for my customers sake I want to enable them to have instant access to what they purchased. I know that is what I like.

Does anyone know of anyway to setup a Paypal payment so on eCheck payments it won't automatically redirect to the download page?

In both cases I followed up with the "buyers". The first time the person responded and said they had financial hardship and couldn't afford to make the payment after all, and the second time I got no response from the individual.

I am curious if anyone else has had a similar experience with their WSO's.

  • Hi there, I had this problem as well go into your paypal website payments section and uncheck the box to take echeques.

  • Just go to Paypal Account -> Profile -> Payment Receiving Preferences and check

    Block the following payments:
Pay with eCheque for website and Smart Logo payments, or German bank transfer for all website payments except eBay. NOTE: You may not block eCheque payments on eBay.

    Hope that helps.

    • This is great feedback! Thank you so much!
  • DLGuard is good for this, it doesn't send them the download link until the echeck clears.

    • Thank you for that tip as well. It is very helpful.
    • Thanks from me also, didn't know that.

  • I also use DLGuard and it holds the delivery back until clearance. Also it has an API that can automatically mark clickbank products as refunded - blocking the user from the members area.

(And you can ban IP's and email addresses from buying any of your products which I do for every refunder or anyone who I don't wish to deal with)

    • James,

Thank you for your input. I had no clue that DLGuard was so powerful. I need to look into that. That is awesome!

      Thanks again!

James, I'm curious. Do you really ban anyone who ever refunds anything?

  • Hi

I think most scripts which use IPN (Instant Payment Notification) should - and do - recognise an echeque as "not instant" and therefore only kick-in when the cheque clears - that is certainly true with RAP (Rapid Action Profits) and, I am sure, lots of others too.

If you use anything other than these type of scripts then in my mind there are two ways (that I would use) to cope with it:-

    1) Set to block echecks in your Paypal Profile under Payment Receiving Preferences or

    2) Advise your customers of the delay that will be caused by using an eCheck and possibly advise them not to do so (in the nicest way) if they require immediate access to your service.

Personally, I use method 1 - and although I will never know - I don't think it affects my Sales.

    Just my thoughts . . . . . .

    • $7 Script, being IPN based, handles this eCheck situation as well.

  • I've never experience this before.. because I have not run a wso..

Will certainly use DLGuard in the future if I were to sell something.

    Great input guys!
