Random Character String Getting Added To Wordpress Blog URL

14 replies
When I try to visit /copy-e-writing.in/blog, it takes me to something like /copy-e-writing.in/blog/#axzz1FSpO6ZbR

The last part keeps changing now and then.

Is this a problem of cookie sessions or something like that?

Any techie here? Please help.

    Go into your permalinks setting and see if that string has been added. If so, delete it. Has happened to a couple of my blogs.

      Nopes! Just went to check the Permalinks section in General Settings. It shows no character string unfortunately.

    Probably it was a space you left in the permalink settings

      Nopes! Just checked that. And I even fiddled with the php.ini file:

      upload_max_filesize = 5M
      post_max_size = 5M
      session.use_cookies = off

        Hi

        Are you using a custom permalink setting? If not do so just use postname and leave no spaces. Otherwise are you running conflicting plugins?

        Regards

          yes, one of my webmaster friends say that Infinity Ads plugin affected my blog. But that was just a guess.

    Are you getting a 'page not found' error when it happens?

    If not, is the correct page showing up?

    If the first answer is no, and the second is yes, then it ain't broke, so don't fix it.

      But the random string is bad for SEO, isn't it?

          First of all, search engine spiders can't configure dynamic urls.

          Secondly, the dynamic urls are getting indexed separately, thus creating a lot of duplicate content within my site.

            Hello schttrj - I've just encountered the same problem. Did you get it fixed on your blog? If so, how?

            Thanks,
            Tony

                Yes, in my case, I added Infolinks plugin and that caused the problem. If you are using Wordpress CMS, I would say, just changing the theme should solve the problem.

                  Thanks - I discovered the string was due to a bug in the latest version of the AddThis plugin. I have unchecked "Track address bar sharing" until the bug is fixed and that took care of the problem.

                  Thank you for responding!
