I'm an Illinois resident, and of 4/15/11, Amazon is dismissing it's Illinois affiliates due to the state of Illinois' poor tax laws. Am wondering if I could have a relative who lives in another state sign up for Amazon Affiliates, I use their ID, and they can forward me my earnings? (I'll pay my relative whatever taxes they have to pay for my earnings).

Your thoughts? Am I missing anything?

You can also setup a LLC in another state with a P.O Box in that state and pay income tax in your state. Or if all else fails just use CJ.com and Google's affiliate network. Same thing but maybe a bit lower conversions in some cases.

    Cheers

Jan correct me if I am wrong, but you cannot use a P.O. box address for a business when you are setting up an LLC. At least that is the case in Ohio--I don't know if that is universal. You can get away with it in Ohio since the law is 'loose', but that might not work with everyone.

Hopefully that isn't the case in every state but it will pay for everyone considering going out-of-state for Amazon to do their due diligence.

This is true. There are virtual offices you can use where you get a physical address in another state. I used to live full-time in CA, and I paid to have a virtual office(with a physical address) in Nevada. It was only something like $35/month and included a phone number, mailing address(physical) and the option to actually lease office space if I needed it. 100% fully legal btw.

Now, I just use my buddy's home in Henderson, NV as my official "office" of sorts.

Hi Brendon, yes you are probably correct. I haven't looked into the legalities of incorporating in another state yet but I know you can do it somehow.

If you don't want the hassle of having a business in another state. It does raise a couple of questions though. Like taxes. This relative will be responsible for the taxes. You could always take those out of what you make. But at some point it is going to make sense to create a business entity anyways.

If this relative is someone that you want to do business with maybe they could handle the business side of things. Set up the business. Find a CPA for tax purposes. Handle that part of the business. You could handle the affiliate side of things. And then split the income. Just a thought...

How important is Amazon revenue to you? If it's enough, you might consider moving. You'd have to move to a state that isnt run by stupid Atlas Shrugged type politicians though.
