ALWAYS HAVE EMERGENCY TOILET PAPER!

Warriors,

You may think this thread is going to be pretty disgusting.

Don't worry, it's not.

I just wanted to remind you all that keeping a spare roll of toilet paper in the bathroom closet is a good idea. That way if you run out before your normal grocery shopping tour, you won't have to drive like a maniac to the corner store, frantically running up to the counter with a 4-pack of Charmin. Pure Embarrassment.

Yes, this is an analogy.

You see, last night I had several customer service emails to respond to. But as I sat down to start working on them, my entire internet connection was down.

Nothing.

Nada.

Basically, I ran out of toilet paper.

So what did I do? Did I panic and have to run down to the local Starbucks to get online? Did I have to get in the car and drive to my buddy's house?

NO!

I just went to the closet and got my emergency toilet paper. In other words, I just plugged my computer's old 56K modem into the telephone plug and connected via my backup dial-up connection (NetZero).

I didn't have to freak out or get in the car and drive...I just went to the closet and got that emergency roll of toilet paper.

Moral of the story:

This is just one example of how you should always have a plan B...a backup plan for when things don't go exactly as they should.

It could be an internet connection. It could be a product delivery service. It could be a mass emailing program...whatever. Always have a backup plan.

So do you guys and gals have an emergency roll of toilet paper? What do you have set up for contingency plans?

Well I ran out of toilet paper last week when a storm knocked out my connection

Then I got toilet paper (a mobile phone connection) but it was not pleasant for the interim period!

In the town I live in, blackouts happen regularly every day in 2007, so a lot houses have power generators.

I had to actually take care of this before thinking about backup internet connection, which I still have with the in-built modem on my mobo and a national dial-up service provider.

But I actually missed those days a bit because during blackouts, I actually had some time to take a nap.

Anyway, the situation is much better in 2008.

  • I'm still laughing at the headline! Very creative title and a very useful thread.

And I think I'm scarred for life trying to get the image of you on the toilet out of paper... yuck.

Dang it Allen you got me! I saw that thread headline and thought surely someone didn't make a post about Toilet Paper. haha Too funny but so true. I've thought about buying a new spare laptop for emergencies. Mine old one died a few months ago and put me out of business for two days. I didn't realize what a pain it was to update everything to Vista drivers for printers, cams, etc not to mention I had to rebuy some software that I already had because it didn't work with Vista.

    hehe great analogy!

I actually ran out of tp for a whole day last week. My emergency supply doesn't exist so I just kinda held it. I eventually went a little crazy in one of my YouTube videos from internet constipation but I recovered nicely the next morning with a dose of Cable-Modem Ex-Lax.

Sorry if I flushed this thread down the toilet but I couldn't help it. (And that really did happen.)

I own 2 of everything. LOL and so does a friend of mine.

My biggest dilemma right now is that I just had to pack my stuff in a very compact car b/c we are moving to an island.

I have had to make choices all day. Eventually I will be back to move the rest of the stuff, but for now the most important stuff was my cameras and computers - and yes I am bringing 2 video cameras and 2 computers (actually 3 with my other half bringing his laptop) and I don't care if I'm naked for the next 2 months (not much room left for clothes and it is a cold island in the winter not a warm one ) - I would be more upset if something happened and I didn't have a back up of those things. There is no walmart or electronics store that specializes in the equipment I need.

Ummm...if you're moving to a new community, going naked for two months might not be a good idea.

        Actually, on second thought...

        LOL

I have a Blackberry with Web access, and all of my cell phones are set up for internet connectivity. I've already configured all of my PC's, so I just have to plug one of the cell phones into the USB port via a cable and I can get on the Web through T-Mobile.

So, I have two emergency rolls!

LOL - this is a funny thread.

I have a box of tissues in the kitchen that come in handy in case of the toilet paper runout!!!

Seriously though - I'm not going to mention the company, but the company that I do a lot of my business with, I have a second account with them under a different name - just incase anything goes wrong with the first account then I have a second to use as a backup. With the company in question - anything can go wrong so it is handy to have a backup.

I just double checked the last dial up connection I had with
worldline.ca and they do have instant account set up. You can
pay for it and be online in 2 minutes. Not sure if that is really
common but it would save paying for it all the months you don't
    need it.

And you don't have to be online to do it. The set up part can
    be done over the phone.

Well I was impressed by your basic message and while I was checking
to make sure that was still true, I did stick the phone number to the
side of the computer. It did cross my mind that the number might be
a bit difficult to find and I really didn't want to spend 75 cents to get
411 to help. Not sure if that's cheap, intelligent, or attention to detail
but I think it is a good idea.

    Love the analogy ...

Even though wireless broadband is pretty reliable I still keep a dial up account for emergencies too.

The other option is always your local library!
