Do you ever find yourself explaining myths and facts about internet marketing to people a lot?

Well , this is a forum for internet marketers so I think its a given on here.

What are some common questions you get asked, and what kinds of things do you start to tell them?

But so many people think its all about 'get rich quick' schemes (whether they believe in them or not)

A lot of people search for 'online jobs' just to be taken to a bunch of scams and ways that aren't effective (like 'paid survey' websites')

This video I did is a parody of people promoting pyramid schemes, AND a parody of people who don't believe in internet marketing at all. (the latter parody is of this user on Yahoo Answers who always says "There are NO online jobs, you CAN'T make money online, etc")

I don't explain get-rich stuff to people so much, but there are a lot of myths that I do need to explain. For example, the relevance of domain extensions, why you shouldn't leave out keyword meta tags, and things of that sort.

It is a common misconception that Internet Marketing is all about pyramid schemes. Of course some pyramid schemes do exist, but they also exist in almost any type of marketing.

When people ask me what I do, I tell them I specialize in search engine optimization, backlinking, and traffic building and they always eat it up... it's great.

As for what people say, I could care less. I make a healthy income which pays for my house and my lexus, what does it matter how I made the money?

Anyway, If you guys are interested in learning some new stuff, I'm releasing the first phase of a project I've been working on in a couple weeks. It contains some pretty unqiue stuff.

Anyway, the next time someone make a condescending comment about you being an affiliate marketer just show em the keys to your car and laugh.

    Cheers,

All the time. The majority of people don't understand, really. Just like most of us wouldn't understand their industry in it's entirety.

I agree, Most of the time I do the same thing. I'm explaining things that I'm not sure. I just got those information from others or just read it somewhere else.

No, never. I've never really seen anyone not understand them, so there's need to explain to anyone that what they've heard anywhere about a subject might ever be a myth: the information on internet marketing's all just too reliable for that to arise - everyone's invariably too well-informed and accurately guided.
