I am seeing more and more teenagers coming online and making money. They adapt so easily and seem to be naturals!

I know it will only get even younger, my daughter is only 6 but already gives me business ideas!!! Scary.

Well it's always good to start young.

What's better is if they learn and embody the proper mindset (like what Andy mentioned), then it will be good for the industry. Plus, we are all amazed with
teenage success stories.

As for my kids, It's about a week now since I had them started at PTC's. They are enthusiastic about it.

I know that a few cents won't really matter a lot but they're kids and it will be
a learning experience for them.

Last time we talked about it, I promised to teach them how to create blogs to
invite referrals. I might teach them some persuasion techniques along the way.

Will they become teenage internet marketers? I'll see in a year or two. If they do become internet marketers, I would be very happy. I will know that I wasn't only able
to give them fish but also taught them how to fish as well.

When I was 16, I was producing a cable TV show called "Sox Talk". We shot the episodes at Fenway Park. I met all of the big baseball celebs and made some bank. My show was the best show on the network. Anybody that says teenagers can't be successful is a moron.

Also, Bill Gates was 18 when he jumped in. I'm sure Bill would think this poll is silly.

I sometimes wish these types of opportunities were available when I was a teenager. However, I balance this with knowing that I grew up before the world became connected to, and perhaps influenced by, a seemingly endless amount of social media and technology. The lessons I learned have definitely benefited me as I work to build a quality online presence.

I have no problems with teens pursuing this line. It is important for them to have an appreciation of those who "pioneered" the way, along with maintaining a healthy and balanced life.

I agree, parents should give encouragement. My maternal grandfather (born at the end of the 19th century) didn't like the idea of his children knowing more than he did. I imagine there are still some with that attitude nowadays, especially where IT and the internet is concerned.

My father certainly has an attitude problem with the internet. He is a retired electrician yet has no understanding of computers. It must piss him off that I who is not technically minded should know more than he does. So much for parental encouragement.

When I was a teenager (no less than 5 years ago

), I was running a web hosting business; so although I wasn't exactly a "teen marketer", I was still a teen business owner.

I think it's a good thing. Why should it make a difference whether someone's a teenager or otherwise? If someone can do a good job and make a success of themselves, then kudos to 'em. They have every right to do so.

I find it quite sad, actually, that more parents and schools don't cultivate more of an entrepreneurial mindset in their children/students from a young age. I've always found the whole "get good grades so you can get a good job" ethos to be quite oppressive and narrow-minded, and the fact that's all that's promulgated in most public schools (here in the UK, at least) fuels my disdain for such institutions.

If I ever have kids, I'll send them to a private school or home-school them, and "getting a good job" and "being obedient and subservient" will not be the primary objectives of my child's "life preparation".

  I started when I was 18 and just turned 20 few moths ago. Made a lot of mistakes in the beginning. Quit it for 6 months then started it again. Worked hard till I saw some success. Not much but made few 1k $'s by now.

I couldn't possibly agree with this quote more, the whole thing in fact. I actually came across affiliate marketing when I was still in high school but it was so discouraged by the adults around me that I never did more than a couple of sales before giving up and getting a "good job" and you know what I got for that? Let go when the company needed to cut costs which meant hiring in new people for $6/hr less. I think back now to what could have been had I started affiliate marketing back then...makes me a little annoyed to be honest!

I have a friend who is actually working on a website/course that is geared toward children and teens starting their own businesses. I think it's really cool, I mean kids come up with the craziest ideas and all they need is someone there to believe in them and encourage them and they can create some awesome products.

I started working at 8 and a half, essentially had my own business and bought all my school clothes and my own car. However, it is important to learn how to socialize in school. It is equally important to have time to develop a clear comprehension of personal values that can only come through trials, tribulations and evaluating the right and wrong of it in the aftermath. As long as teens have clear values and are taught good business ethics by loving and discerning parents, I am for it 100%.

When I was a teenager there was only one thing that I was interested in and it wasn't making money...

To all the girls I loved before...as the song goes...

I think it's cool for younguns to get into IM but they showed be mature enough to handle pressure and be focused...but hormones should come first...get my drift?

Anyone who has teenagers knows that there are a lot of factors in this...like us adults don't know S&&T...right kiddo...not like I ain't been there done that...

That being said...Teens are SUPER...just on a different level as us "OLD FOLKS"

Been trying to get my kids interested in IM for a long time and they look at me like I'm a moron...WTF...there is money to be made...oh I forgot not as long as DAD keeps handing $$$ over to them...LOL

Anyways...what the hell do I know!

I was 16 when I started my online journey. Now I'm 22 and still consider young ~well, not teen for quite a long time but still fresh meat

~

Now seriously, I have seen really young teens that I really creative and we can all learn from them, but when it comes to big guys and big money ... they still need to learn a lot! And let's not forget that in this business we are learning every single day ... simply, this business change really fast and some stuff that are working today wont work tomorrow.

So I can say that teens can really make some extra income with IM

  I think it's important that you start trying to make you own business as young as you can. If you are a teen you are very lucky to have the opportunity to being practicing with starting business ventures so young.
  
  Starting a business and making it successful is definitely an acquired skill and the sooner you start and make mistakes the better. Also, you are lucky because you have no real risk - Sure you may lose money but besides that there are no consequences of failure.

  You can definitely have great online success at any age, but to be a well rounded marketer who can put things in perspective, I guess age can also help a bit....Either way, there is no clear cut formula, some adults have the maturity and brains of a toddler an vice versa. And yes, some slightly older folks have a harder time with technical stuff, but they can adapt too!

I personally know few people, who are 18 years old now and one of them made 100k from internet marketing and the another one is earning about $3000 each month.
And there is me. Earning about $2000 - $4000 every month until 17.
So, I think it's obvious that it's great to start at this age.

I just wish I was more in to the internet back then. Although it was still all brand new back then. 1995-1998 was when I was in highschool and the internet was mainly just for chatrooms and playing online games. Both were way worse then they are now. I just stayed away and played some football. Even though I should have been learning back then about online marketing. Oh well live and learn. We were one of the only families that had internet back then. Back when dial up was the only thing you could get.

It's not hard, per say. The difficulty lies in the fact that the learning curve is steep when you first start.

Let's see I started at 15 during the summer.. made some good money(and learned tons of stuff), Quit for about a year because of school and then I got a "real" job. Now a fresh 18 year old and with summer coming up I plan on getting my game on once again.!

The entrepreneurial bug normally strikes during the teen years... it did for me when I was 19 and now I'm 22. I love this profession, and honestly would recommend it to any teen willing to commit. I think putting forth an honest effort into such a low barrier business will help keep em out of trouble!

I'm all for it especially with the economy and unemployment the way it is nowadays. If they can add value to their chosen market and create an easier life for their family and themselves I'm all for it.

I started when I was about 15, doing parking though. I've made over $50,000 in the two years doing it. I'm now 18 and about 5 months ago I switched to doing SEO, I'm only up to about 300-500 a month now lol

It's a good idea, go for it. I made my 1st $120 check when I was 16 with
Internet Marketing, I was still in High School and from there I became a part
time marketer to a full time marketer couple years later - have heart, be bold,

If there were an internet when I was a kid (teen) chances are I would be retired now (retired 20 years ago). My son is 15 and hates school, has his own channel on you tube, makes gaming vids, and has a rather large following. I suggested he try to make money and to my surprise he already was. As long as he keeps it honest, which he will, he will be in a very good position in a few years. He is driven to succeed, and he will make it happen I am sure.

I think it's the way to go. Atleast there trying to branch out, set up there own business and not become some sort of corporate slave until there 65 or 70.

I spoke to Brad Gosse in London over the weekend and he says in his book that by time peeps have reached 10th grade they should really consider dropping school and persue entrepreneurship.

I completely agree.

The only thing about doing Internet Marketing as a teenager (given that you actually make money with it) is that all that money at such a young age can end up messing with your head.

I cleared 6 figures online when I was 13, around 1996'ish, and have done well since... but I passed a couple of years in the middle when I had more money than I knew what to do with and... the results weren't pleasant for myself or my family. I hit rock bottom before coming back up again after that, but I did learn my lessons.

My advice to young Internet marketers would be to learn everything you can about money management, practice some discipline, and you'll be able to retire by 30.

Fully support Teen to start Internet Marketing.

The following are some of my point of views:

- As it doesn't require huge amount of money to
start one, so is fairly easy to go into it.

- Is always better for them to spend time figuring
out how to make money online, then spending their
time on other unhealthy activities.

- Internet is the future, so is better to know it well then later.

- Need not depends on their parents to give them allowance,
work hard enough, and they can determine the amt of allowance
they want, of course, it require some time and a lot of work.

- etc.

The reasons are just too many...

I started learning about Internet Marketing when I was 15, now, at the age of 19, Things are going great, I started to take action when I was 18, and I've been consistently building since then.

I hope to have a powerful, and successful business online before my Mid 20's

I think it's great seeing so many young people online. With the current economic state, it shows that some young people really do want to make a go of things in life, I think it shows good initiative to try start a business online.

I know of a rich Internet marketer teen who is doing it big in the IM world. Talking to him just amaises me on how much he knows on how he makes money. Sometimes I wish I had started earlier but I am glad I started now while I am still young. Teens are risk takers in general and that's why we see them doing well they are not really worried about the consequences they just dive right into it and do it.

Too many of the so-called adults have been living in the past - and completely delusional about who it is that's narcissistic, assertive, entitled, and more miserable than ever - to paraphrase one of the gloom-and-doom popular titles demonizing today's youth.

I think it's great that they're shifting from consumer to producer with the technology they've grown up with! And it's clearly not an American phenomenon! It's global!

This is the generation that will eventually take science and technology to unprecedented levels, with virtually everyone on the planet enjoying much greater freedom and opportunities than we ever imagined possible. These are the ones who will be commuting to outer space, realizing the dreams many of us have had since childhood of traveling to space stations, throughout the solar system, and on to the stars.

And when you think about it, it's astonishing how resilient they are - given the sorry state of education, crumbling infrastructure, and the enormous debts we've pushed off on them.

But don't take my word for it! Listen to THEM!

Most of the teens and many 20-somethings are keenly aware that they are the ones who are going to get stuck with the bills for all the government "largesse." There ain't no "free lunch" merely freeloaders and elitists with a vested invested in pimping those myths!

And most of them don't realize the book was published in the 50's and had a cult following long before the current generation was born. It's a great book - but fiction.

The problem with threads about teen marketers is they keep getting bumped with an "us vs them" mentality. It's the job of every new generation to think they are smarter than....better than...more insightful than....the generation before them.

  I think it is great. I am now 63 and starting to try IM. I grew up in a career military family, made a career out of the military myself and worked a government job until 4 months ago. I have had no business training and wish the internet had been around when I was a teenager---I might have had a different career:p.
  My experience in life has been great. Now I am on a different road that has some bumps and curves, but I will succeed. I just have to get over the no-fear factor that the teenagers have. Yes I am glad to see them here and making a success of this!

+1: It's great they have initiative at a young age.

Starting from scratch, with great ideas, and financing your own growth will teach you a lot. Just don't throw away money on stuff that does not work. Having more time than money can be a good thing when you are beginning, but a little investment can speed things up.

I think it's great and I wish I had got into internet marketing in my early teens. It's a great situation to be in, lots of time on your hands, bursting with ideas and being skint most of the time forces you to be creative. Also, if any of your peers are into IM you have them to bounce ideas off each other in person and on a day-to-day basis plus JV with.

Also, instead of working crappy jobs over summers and other holidays (like I did on uni breaks) you can put some serious time into developing a really scalable business.

Yes, I think it's a fantastic time to be a teenage internet marketer, good luck to them.

  That mindset is all too common in the 9-5 world - I guess because it's one of the few things they CAN crow about, but there's a huge difference between what they claim to be "20 years experience" and one years experience repeated 20 times.

Everything is looking good for me then. I suspected when I first joined the board that I would have to wait a while as I was 'too young'. However it seems that if a teen is dedicated enough and is persistent now is not a better time to start in the IM business.

Howie, my ambitious young friend, there is more to having experience that being able to set up a blog or create some graphics, or any other IM-specific skill you care to mention.

What some of the older marketers have (some, mind you, not all) that teens lack is life experience, and with it, context. Things that seem like the top of the mountain, or the end of the world, the first time you experience them are handled more easily the second, third or more time you experience them.

Look at yourself...

You seemed to take the mention of experience as a personal affront, rather than an observation.

Of course, experience can be a double-edged sword. After 50+ trips around the sun, I might have trouble connecting with teens because I know things that I can't un-know, which makes me see things a little differently. On the other hand, I might be able to connect more easily with people your parents' age (or even your grandarents') because we have some common experiences that you will never have.

I think that it is awesome for young people to get into this business as long as they are providing good value in their information and products. There are some brilliant young people out there and who is to say they cannot change the world in a way just as great as an adult in this business. Age ain't nothin but number. I happen to know of one person who launched their first IM website as a Junior in High School and he has become one the most respected names in this business. Right on to teen entrepreneurs! Wish I would have started as a teen.

A 20 year old could have more life experience than someone who is 90.

And that's why sometimes teen marketers don't get the respect they think they deserve. Sometimes it smarter to admit you don't know it all yet - than to continue arguing and prove the point.

At 17, you are where you need to be. Life experience will come in time as it does to all of us. Once you've gained life experience, THEN you'll understand its importance.

its more like, teens are always wanting some money to flaunt everything rich, internet being a common resource, the start looking forward to internet to make money, eventually, the land up with a GURU... who says "a college student earned all that which never existed and fluff..." and finally he is titled an Internet Maketeer, regardless the success he made...

thats the big picture... apart from 0.5% that would make some success, with the fluff course... which will eventually be called the "ones who took action..."

Its really great to see teenagers doing Internet marketing. I have read about an Indian guy in USA, Gurubaksh Chahal who started at the age of 16 years and sold a company at the age of 19 for 10 millions USD. then he again created a company and sold to yahoo for 200 million USD at 22. you never know what these guy can do!!

Is there a minimum age to sign up for cpa networks because I've been to a couple and I filled out all the stuff and then at the bottom it would say you must be 18 years old to apply. Was it just coincidence that the couple ones I went to were like this or are all like this?

I'm 16 and starting IM. I'm not successful yet but I sure am trying! I am in "advanced" classes at a private school and have been told I'm good with technology.

I will never claim to be a genius, not even CLOSE

. That being said I think I can make this IM thing work. Maybe get an "IM Tutor" instead of wasting loads of money on ebooks.

Any advice for getting started online is welcome!!

The younger you start the quicker you fail and move on. It's about getting a feel for what can work and what you should avoid.

The learning curve is soo steep you need time to get your head around everything and then it changes all within the same day and you start all over again.

Yes, there are age limits for any site that pays money and is U.S. based. The age of 18 is required for your to enter a binding contract. Other countries may have lower age limits.

Paypal, clickbank, adsense, CPA - require you to be a legal adult to sign up. If you have parental backing you can use the sites as your parents assume the responsibility legally.

It's a reality of being a teen marketer and it's a serious risk if you lie about age to the sites. I've known teen marketers who had permanently lost access to paypal, adsense and other money sites due to lying about age when they signed up. Don't ruin your future by trying to squeeze out a buck today. Instead, use methods that don't require you to meet an age limit.

It's not easy at all to start when your younger than 18, but problems are there to be solved. There's always a 18+ that wants to help you by (for example) making a Paypal account.

It looks like I get information like I'm a sponge. If someone else I know learns something, she has to take notes and stuff... Most important things stay in me, but well: notes never killed someone

And well: I'm going to make a lot more from the time I invest than people who work in a supermarket and stuff, doing things I love to do.

I started in IM at 13, I'm 25 now.

You've got a lot of advantages starting so young... no real expenses or kids etc.

But that also lets you slack off a lot on it so you really need to focus on creating deadlines and sticking to a schedule for stuff.

Don't let it completely take over your life, this is the one time we are expected to really goof around and you don't want to regret not doing some fun stuff with your peers later on. In other words have a balance IM is not the end all be all (neither is partying for that matter)

Be sure to have some goals, be it paying for college or a car or your own place eventually etc Starting out just making enough so you have a level of income similar to your friends when they have to work a low paying job is alright as it proves to you that you can make it work then you start working towards the bigger stuff.

Once you do make it don't get complacent and don't get too braggadocios about it to your friends as most of them won't have the attitude to really make it work and it's going to hurt some feelings when they realize that they more than likely will never reach your income level.

I think its great that so many are taking the initiative. There's a lot of kids growing up in this "entitlement generation" who expect everything to be handed to them on a plate. It p****s me off to be honest... actually, the parents for letting it happen in the first place makes me more angry. I see a lot of older marketers being quite resentful of the internet teen successes, but I think its a good thing. My kids are dying to do IM, but they're a bit young yet.

I know of someone who made use of teen internet marketers to market his online store to sell merchandise apt their age. This would be a gamble in my opinion but if you get someone who knows their stuff, then you are in it to win it. They were selling those graphic t-shirts and provided design customization for shoes. If you hired someone who has an active network, then it would translate to great results for you.

In my opinion its not worth it / waste of time. Here are the reasons.
-All affiliate / CPA / Adsense services require minimum of age of 18+.
-High Schoolers have no to little time to spare on IM, cause of school.
-They tend to quit easily, more than adults, get stressed leading to aggressive behaviors (they are still children)
-Most teens use up money from their parents, and often waste it.
there are more many reasons but really... they need to be over 18 to do IM or its illegal

I think it is fantastic that they have taken that bold step, and using their free time to make some extra cash. A girl I know started selling items on eBay when she was 16 (using her parents account and with their help).

Rolling 6 years years, she took herself through university totally debt free, by buying and selling on eBay.

And I know over the years I have bought courses and manuals written by teenagers and those in their early 20's, these are the people we need to learn from as they are on the cutting edge, they are not afraid to push the boundaries of using the internet.

We should follow these people, encourage them all the time and we should also stand along side them and help them when needed.

Yeah it's definitely an awesome thing when a high school teenager actually gets involved in entrepreneurship early on in life be it offline or online. Shows them the true meaning of a dollar, especially when they're working for someone else.

Totally off topic but I feel like College is over rated, go to school, go $35,000 in debt (I live in Cali), graduate and start at a $25,000 per year job that you aren't guaranteed first of all. Then you feel you deserve to buy a car, another $25,000 in debt...$50k over all..then you wake up when you're 35-40 and have $200,000 in debt (house too) and wonder what the heck happened?

If I had known about internet marketing back in high school I would have been super well off by now.

So yeah it's definitely a positive thing to get started early.

Im 18, started about 2 months ago. Have been working on my affiliate niche and site for about a month now, although most of that was learning, research and preperation.

Its getting there, am yet to turn a sale but that is simply because it isnt ranking very well (well we'll see once its on page one, but then its just a case of testing and seeing whats working and what isnt, and if it works at all), its steadily climbing though, feels good to boot up Market Samurai and see it go ranking from 49-40 in just under a week with little off page SEO, and I've only just begun to work on the off page SEO and backlinking.

Enjoying it so far, am lucky enough to have someone to learn from too, instead of having to crawl the internet for the countless different opinions and guides.

And I'm even more lucky to be learning all this within a company and to have something I can stick on my CV (Im working as an assistant internet marketer and designer).

Never underestimate a person's skills by his or her age.

When the internet first became popular for IM in the late 1990s, I would have said they should leave it to the pros. As the internet has grown, it has become a popular "playground" for people of all ages, including teens. Since teens have a fresh insight and in many cases are more inquisitive than some of us who have been around for awhile, it makes sense. They will find new ways of doing things. They will discover new marketing outlets and develop new ones.

Those who do participate in IM could well have learned new approaches through their school studies. How may older marketers took the internet and computers as school subjects? I know I didn't. They hadn't been invented then.

So I'd say that teens have the edge. They will make mistakes and learn from them while the rest of us settle into our routines, doing what has worked in the past and continue to work today. This can cause us to miss new insights, marketplace changes, and changes in the types of people who use the internet.

Let's face it. Teens today aren't what they were in the 1970s and 1980s. If anything, we should be keeping an eye on them to see what they discover for us.

Teenagers starting their own businesses is something that has been going on since the get -- now we're supposed to be wowed because they can use computers?

Maybe people would respond more normally to them if they would stop worrying about how old everyone is or push for compliments about "wow...and at YOUR age..."

I remember the notes kids would pass in grade school:

Do you think I'm special? check one Yes___ No____

Frankly - I don't care about nor do I ask someone's age when I talk or do business to them. But these types of posts belong at school - not in a business forum.

I think it's a question that can be applied to many different things - I started messing around in web design and coding when I was about 14, and I wouldn't be where I am now without that interest from a young age. It's a great thing - as long as it doesn't interfere with your school work

I think it's awesome! IM is a great way for a teen to pay for college and save some money for retirement. Even though older generations get a jealous and feel that IM should be left to "professionals", amazing business have arisen from VERY young entrepreneurs. There was a girl who was 14 who founded this website/business called Whateverlife.com. When myspace was really big, that site was booming and made $$$$. The million dollar homepage was created by a teen back in the day too. I wish i had known what I know now when I was a teen. I'd be at LEAST a double digit millionaire.

I'm a teen marketer and I feel like I am soo close to success. My website is on page one of google for multiple terms with between a couple hundred and 4k+ monthly exact global searches but I still have little traffic and basically no adsense clicks.

I guess position one on page one is just wayyyy better than position five on the same page

Either way I can hardly wait until it all starts working for me. Don't want live my life worrying about bills like my parents. Good luck to all!

Blake, there are a couple of things to consider here.

We're not dealing with exact science here. While looking at exact global searches can give you an idea of demand for information, most people don't search using exact match queries. They use broad match. So you may want to check your position for your keywords using regular old broad match. It will give you a better idea of where you sit in the real world.

Second, once you make the front page, there are factors besides position on the page to consider. Remember, you're looking for real people to click through to your pages. Real people read titles and descriptions, and click on the ones that speak to them.

You'll find stats quoted, particularly by companies selling SEO services, saying that position #1 gets x% of the available clicks, position #2 gets y% and so on. Those stats are compiled over millions of searches, with no attempt to discriminate between queries like "what's the phone number for Joe's pizza", "how do I cure chronic dandruff" and "got any pictures of Britney Spears naked"... Many quesries can be answered by clicking the first link, and often by simply noting the info in the description with no click at all.

Last, once you reach the first page, you are competing with the other organic listings, the Adsense ads, the suggested searches, the search box itself and the links to deeper pages - just on that page - plus the back button.

I definitely think that all teens should try it. Why not? Some will become successful at it. I tell kids that they should start a blog now, because you can build it up and bring enough traffic over time and then sell ad space and they'd be all set. No college (unless they want to) and then they'd be able to afford it!

It always seems that upcoming generations just get smarter and smarter. You just have to look at how many young internet millionaires exist today.

Heck sometimes it amazes me when my 2 year old gets behind my laptop the things he can do already, like playing his favorite Justin Bieber videos on Youtube

Being an addicted to marketing myself, I can't help but encourage my own teens to give IM a fair shake. Now, while they are young and have time to learn the trade. I have made it part of my home school program for that reason. One of my sons is really quick at graphic art and design and one of my daughters has a flair for anything entrepreneurial. Now if I could get one interested in designing websites... LOL

As far as I am concerned if they are honest, deal respectfully, contribute to the good of society as any other business person, I don't even need to know how old someone is -- although it would be hard for me to take a kid very seriously if he/she had a marriage relationship repair site

... Hey, there are plenty of "adults" online that leave much to be desired ... On the other hand, I get a real thrill when I find out some bright kid makes good money online.

Well personally I'm 14 and I'm very into this. Everyone says I'm very mature for my age though. I still socialize well at school, but my school is a little low end (only school where I live) and everyone seems to do some sort of drug, or want to skip school, party or that type of thing. I'm not into that kind of stuff, so intead I play hockey and IM in my free time. I think it would be cool if I wasn't the only one in my school doing this though

Well i do support teenagers a lot ! They do come up with the awesome ideas and most of them want to do blackhat stuffs like making bots and programs to automate stuffs and make money.

It is a good thing and they are really curious to learn new stuffs and keep themselves updated.

I am 17 now and making quite a decent income from the internet! The main things that motivate me are -

1. Urge to help my family financially.
2. Make my life lived like a person's life should be lived by not living just for making money!!

If other teens are making money for the same reasons described above, they will definitely make it big! But if anyone is getting into IM just for the sake of getting drunk, all night parties and all that then bad times are waiting for them!

I can't remember when was the last time I bought myself some nice clothes but investing into IM!

I started as a teen, too, alongside my terrible full-time job. I didn't have to contribute any of my online earnings to the household and it was a lot more enjoyable than my job, so that was a pretty big motivator to do well online.

Really, there are some people who think that, at the age of eighteen, you magically get skills and permission to do what you want, like, and are good at. Kids are so much more capable than some give them credit for. They will rise to the bar you set for them. If your bar is "don't get in trouble", they'll sit at home and play TV games. If your bar is "be the best you can be", they'll find a way to do it. That's why I scoff at most age limits... there are kids out there who are far more mature than adults I've worked with.

I just wish I'd start even earlier when AdSense and Adwords were released. When you're a teen you have no problem with money so you can look at $$ you earn as a number that must get bigger.

I think it's totally up to one self.

But personally I'd wish for any teen that he/she wouldn't have to worry too much about their financual situation and just focus on the simple things in life .. at least for the first 19 years.

Don't get me wrong, IM is fun!!..

But at least to me, the first couple of years were quite a struggle, time-consuming and up-hill. When you're a teenager 2 years of your puberty is quite an investment, and the time should probably be spent on chasing girls rather than becoming an internet millionaire

[edit] However, if Counter-Strike / WoW is your alternative, definitely start doing IM as soon as possible!!

I love the idea of teens gaining marketable skills working for themselves online. It definitely would have been better than what I did, working at McDonalds (gained some skills there too and at least five pounds).

If my son wasn't convinced that he would like to be a pastry chef (he's 9 and may still change his mind), I'd love for him to work as an affiliate. Help me pay for his post-secondary schooling.

Sometime back around 2003/4 when i started bulk email marketing, there was a young Canadian skiing for the Aussie Olympic team. I happened to read his success story one day. From memory, he netted about 2 million bulk email marketing a viagra-generic when he was 17. I recall being very impressed with the story. Thought you'd like to know about him...

I used to have mixed opinions about teenage entrepreneurs. But teens have changed over the years. Now, a teenager has the option of earning Microsoft and Cisco certifications and getting $50-$60K jobs fresh out of high school. To compete in today's world you're better off starting early, and learning IM and especially the wealth mindset can put a teen miles ahead of the game.

It's all about mindset. Not everyone will succeed in business, but if you start developing your mind, and start trying things, you might hit it off. There is some kids that may run into a link that shows them how to make a fortune, or at least they claim to, and they might believe it. That's where it all starts. Whether they actually hit it off, or not, that curiosity will always be there for them that there is money to be made online.

It's great, as long as they don't let it affect their studies!

The earlier you start, the more you'll know when you become the 'right' age to start IM

The only problem I'd see with starting out young is that some young people tend to get discouraged easily, which is why for them, it's probably best not to jump into IM too quickly.

Obviously, the earlier you start with a business, the easier money making becomes. It' still not just about the money making part, but more about how you create your vision.

The thinking patterns play the main part in making money.. and of course the people you work with or socialize with play a big part in determining how fast and effective you'll grow.

I love to see teens who are ambitious about growing as a person, growing their business, and developing their talents in the infinity.

Some teen Internet marketers make more money in a month than what I would do in a lifetime, the only problem is their they need to put the money in their parents account since they are under aged to have their own account.

I'm a teen internet marketer, I started internet marketing when I was 14 years-old. I started building my first list that time. Right now, I'm 18 years-old, in the past few years I focused on graphics design, but I'm still updated in the internet marketing niche.

I believe new teen internet marketers today can do greater things, create new ideas, and can make money online. Let's expect new young internet marketer's on upcoming years.

I discovered IM in my early 20s, and I wish I had figured it out much sooner. All of those years I spent playing video games I could have spent making money.

There's no use in regretting it - those who do discover it early on are merely fortunate. They are neither superior nor inferior, I think that they are just as capable as long as they have the knowledge.

Teen marketers annoy me. Mainly because they're obviously smarter than I am. I had spent SO MUCH TIME on the computer when I was young, even making websites just for fun, but for some strange reason I just NEVER understood there were marketers online making money everyday.

It never ever hit my mind that I should start doing internet marketing, and I'm very envious of all the younger kids that DO get that early headstart. When I was a teenager, spending so much time online, those were apparently the "get rich" days for internet marketers. Very little competition, very easy to make decent money (or so I hear).

So I wind up jumping into marketing at 29, and already feel like I'm behind the majority of marketers. I have no real estate at all online, and some of these kids (like Ryan Eagle) have basically built their own empires online. So it can sometimes bring me down. Although one side of me does actually feel like I have an advantage, because I know how well I did in college with writing/psychology. It was something I took VERY seriously. Was very competitive with my peers, and use to go through psychology books every week just for fun. None of my friends I know ever read as much as I did for entertainment, nor the type of material I use to read. But I'm hoping because I do have such a competent background in psychology, that maybe I'm really not as far behind as I think I am (hopefully).

I think it is great for young people to venture in IM biz, just like those athletes who earns millions of dollars in early 20's. But formal education is still important in honing your decision making and interaction with people.

Education is important - you need to learn literacy, numeracy and social skills because those are the things that you'll be relying on for the rest of your life to be able to function in the real world.

As for the monetary side of things - there is nothing wrong with young people trying to get ahead and set up businesses at an early age. We have more time to fail and thus, more time to succeed.

Being a slave to a corporation really doesn't appeal me to in the slightest. Doing what the majority can't seems to be an exciting challenge.

I started out when I was about 15. It was a love-hate thing. I wanted success, But I wasn't willing to for it. At the same time, The idea of making money from the internet was so fascinating to me and I wanted it....BAD. :rolleyes:

I started making consistent money with niche blogs when I was about 17. I started writing during the wee hours of darkness so I could earn enough to pay for a domain name and hosting.

At the time, I used to write a 500 word article for $1.50 for a content mill. I remember churning out 20 plus articles every night before I would go to bed and I made up for my lack of sleep by sleeping through my classes.

That was then... Now, I'm 18, I have multiple niche blogs pulling in a consistent monthly income just enough to brake even and if I'm lucky, Make a profit.

(I'm still figuring out how paid traffic works)

The majority of my online income comes from ghostwriting. Even though I am not as experienced as many of the writers here, I can still write well enough to keep my humble circle of employers happy.

Now, I spend most of my time writing for myself and am currently working on a product of my own. So yea, Starting out young gives you more room for failure/trial & error as you don't have "adult" responsibilities yet.

I think that this is one of the better things that could happen to a teen, even if he/she is not successfull from the start. Better to have some experience in something different than trying to skip classes and posting stupid coments on facebook. And I amsure that there some very successfull teens out there making big bucks.

More power to them. I look at what I was doing on the net back in 96-97 and slap myself. I had hobby sites and forums that ranked number 1 on Yahoo and ask.com and never ever thought of monetizing them and eventually let them go due to IRL commitments *facepalm*
