Need Camcorder Reccomendation, Please

INTERNET MARKETING

I'm looking to get a new camcorder.

Needs to record to hard drive. HD would be nice, but not a must. It also must have the ability to plug in an external microphone.

Anybody use something like that? How do you like it?

That one's pretty sweet for the price, but it takes MiniDV tape... would be REAAALLY sweet if it recorded to HDD.

Hi Lance,

You want it to record to your computer hard drive, or a hard drive inside the camcorder?

If you're talking about the latter (HDD format) then the only one I've seen with external mic input is the Sony 60GB version (not the 30GB which is otherwise pretty much the same). Sorry, I don't remember the model number... they may actually have a few (but it's a Sony-specific input on some of the models at least, rather than a standard mic mini-jack like you'd expect).

But I'd love to know if there are any new models that have that capability too!

  I own and recommend the canon HV30 which records to mini dv hd tape...
  
  But Most of the time I just connect the camera to my computer and capture direct to my computers hard drive using Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum which can capture HD.
  
  If you are going for HD realize that no hard drive based camcorder captures true HD they capture in a format called AVCHD and though many editing solutions are starting to support it many do not so make sure your editor supports it.
  
  As for what model to go for... the HV30 is best consumer budget priced true hd camcorder you can get for under $1k but if you absolutely must have a HDD built into your camcorder a good buy at a good price would be:
