Opt-in question. help please!

I was wondering whether it was better to have a squeeze page, or a pop-up on your main sales page.

1. If you have a squeeze page, a customer may look at the email request and quit theuir browser, never to se your sales page.

2. If you have a pop-up they might become annoyed and shut down their browser..

Any ideas?

Both will work for you, the people who close their browser due to a squeeze page or get annoyed due to a popup are possibly not the type you want signing up anyway.

    Now that is a question.

Many marketers believe that if a visitor isn't willing to fill in a squeeze page to get your sales message then they're unlikely to become buyers so not worth having on your list.

Others believe that visitors shouldn't have to sign up to see your message.

My own view is that list building and making sales are 2 different things and shouldn't be mixed. By all means have a squeeze page but not to your sales page. Instead lead it to some free quality information so potential customers can see the sort of quality information they'll get if they then go on to buy from you. Use the squeeze page for relationship building.

With pop-ups, yes many people find them annoying and most would simply close them if they found them annoying. A trick I learnt from Jimmy D Brown is not to use a pop up but instead to use an inline form in your sales copy. It should be arranged so that it fits in with your sales copy so that it seems quite logical for it to be there and for the visitor to fill it in to get more information. To give you an example, I have such a set up on a web page at...

Rebranding Wizard - turn dimes into dollars

    Hope that helps?

    Be successful,

    Jeff.

The answer to that is.... test both... and see which performs better and yields better results/conversions. That's what you go with.

Squeeze pages are great for just building your list but you're right - not everyone will want to opt in so they wouldn't see your sales page. Some marketers add a link so the visitor can by-pass the opt-n if they want to.

And a lot of people don't like popups - sometimes an exit-pop works better since they're leaving anyway.

One thing I've done that has worked really well was to have an opt-in as part of the page content. The visitor could opt-in to get a sample or something relevant to what I was describing at that point.

    As an example...

I have a site that sells motivational screensavers and visitors can click on a link to see one of the screens full sized (it looks much nicer than a tiny thumbnail) and they can save it and use it for wallpaper (a surprise freebie).

Then right under that I tell them that if they liked that sample I'd be happy to send them more each week - just tell me where to send them. And with each new wallpaper is a reminder that it's just one scene taken from the screensaver.

You can apply that in some way to just about anything.

I usually use freebies offer to get subcriber, but Pop up or Squeeze are working if you offer something useful for them ..

thnaks to all you guys. I'm deciding on a squeeze page that says:

Wait, before you enter our main site, why not take a look at this great FREE offer. Then I have a link that says No, please just take me to the main page.
