Lead Gen easier than Local seo?

I am considering testing the Lead Generation business, supplying leads for local businesses. The only thing is, I need some leads in order to start my business - joke!!

Anyway, the idea is to create sites that attract - say - people needing a plumber and then sell that lead to a plumber.

Do you think this is overcompetitive nowadays? Much money in it? Would love to hear your views on this!

I thought about the lead gen biz model because I thought it might be easier to sell a lead than a promise, as a local seo consultant would.

    I have created flyers for a local website generating leads for dentists. It was a ho-hum experience, and I couldn't seem to find anyone to pay much for the leads. I made some money, but nothing to make a WSO about haha.

      Your biggest challenge will be in finding a profitable niche that's smart enough to understand leads. When I say profitable, I mean that they make enough per DEAL that you can get paid at least $50 per lead. AT LEAST. For instance, I have a client who pays me $165 per good lead (has to be really good) yet he makes over 2-4k per deal. And he's good at doing those deals. It also helps to go into a lead niche where the people are desperate for help. It makes it easier to convert.

      It's like trying to find a unicorn sometimes.

    I like the Lead Gen model as well. I've done pretty well with a few different type businesses. I use a phone tracking system (forward a virtual number to them)...and then charge them per call (I send the bill to the at the end of the week).

      That is freaking awesome! I'm going to look into that RIGHT this minute. Never even thought of that. I just had a form and then gave the company the information after payment. Didn't even think of this!
