Email marketing (blasting)

Hi, my business website is relatively new. Less than a year old. We have been attracting customer mostly through pay-per-click advertising . We have just started doing SEO work (which will take many months to rank).

I want to know if using one of the services that offer a large email database and then do the emailing for us is an effective way to generate more traffic and potentially customers. There are many companies that will send out 300k+ emails for less than $100.
Most people will frown upon this, but I figure if I can get some sales and more people knowing our name, it is a minimal investment. Are there any cons using this email blasting service, such as legal repercussions for 'blasting'? I would be interested to hear some opinions on this. Thank you.

    Sure, if you spam -- I mean "blast" -- the wrong person, you could end up:

    -- Losing your domain.
    -- Losing your web host.
    -- Losing your payment processor.
    -- Losing your ISP.
    -- And losing any other accounts that could possibly be linked to your "blasted" email.

      I've read about services such as "liveinteractivemedia" or "targetaudienceonline" who use their own servers to do the spam/blast. They claim that the clients using their service would not get any repercussions. If any problems, it would be their company who deals with it since it is their servers. They also claim to be white-listed on all the major ISP by all accounts.

      Is there a precedent set for a company to lose their domain, host, payment processor, etc for a company who has used these external email services. I have worked hard to build the website, and don't want to lose it because of a bad marketing decision.

        How can they even claim that with a straight face?

        After all, it's going to be YOUR link going out in the email blast. And the minute that happens, someone is bound to follow the link to see where you host, what payment processors you're using, who your domain registrar is, etc. Then they'll start filing spam complaints... which at best will make your life a living hell, and at worst will cause you to lose the aforementioned accounts (which makes it very difficult to do business any more).

    there are proper ways to buy an email blast - but you're not going to get a legit 300k email blast for $100...

    buying solo ads is one of the best ways to build your list quickly, but you'll pay a little more for quality & can-spam compliance...

    most of the folks who will tell you this is spam have no idea what they are talking about - they've never bought a solo ad, don;t have a clue how it works, etc. but that won;t stop them from telling you to avoid a solid tactic...

    done correctly, you pay for an email to go out to someone else's list, but you never get access to the list - they queue it up and send it out for you after you pay their advertising fee...

    it's the exact same traffic as if a JV mailed on your behalf, but instead of paying a 50% or higher commission, you just pay for the email up front...

    lot's of details to getting this right, but that's the gist...
